We stayed at the Heathman after our wedding a year ago and decided to repeat the experience on our first anniversary, and we were very glad we did! It was a very large and comfortable room (suite), especially in light of the very reasonable price paid. Amenities in the room (e.g. tea selection and french press for coffee) very nice. Room very stylish and well appointed. We were given a complimentary bottle of wine in honor of our anniversary (we had to ask for wine glasses to be brought to our room, although this was done very quickly).

Instead of shower gel we inexplicably had a bottle of body lotion in the shower (in addition to the bottles of shampoo and conditioner). There was a high shelf in the bathroom that clearly hadn't been cleaned/dusted in a while. The $5 coupon for two people for food/drinks from the "micromarket" in the lobby is pretty useless though, as not much falls below $5 -- seems more like a ploy to get you to spend money there. And they persist in charging $8 if you open the bottle of water in the room, which is a pet peeve of mine at hotels.

It’s in a good, clean and safe area. We felt safe walking around for a couple of blocks. The hotel is beautiful. One of the most amazing hotels we have stayed at. The library is so unique with so many books to choose from just sitting there and relaxing felt good. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The bed and pillows were comfortable. There is a restaurant and coffee shop on site. If we ever make it back to Portland we would return to The Heathman. I will recommend to others.

The front desk workers could be a little friendlier they seemed a little disconnected or even a little cold.

great hotel rooms, very clean and stylish. The lounge with the bookcases is a great place to enjoy their complimentary beverages. Take advantage of the complimentary bike hire too. Excellent stay and excellent and friendly staff. Highly recommend

Valet parking was a bit steep considering that there is ample car parks around. We paid $17 instead of $50 for valet.

This hotel is located in part of the business district of downtown Portland, and within walking distance of various shopping and cultural areas. In terms of location, I would recommend this over staying on the other side of the river, which is less lively. The hotel has a pretty interior, with a bit of history attached to it and the library lobby is a big asset, featuring a cosy fireplace. I had a room on the top floor, at a corner of the building which was spacious and offered nice views, even to the mountains in the background. I would say the room was in good shape, but there were some early signs of the interior decorating becoming a bit tired. The bed, however, was brilliant: large and with good mattresses for a sound sleep. It's a suitable place overall; not particularly designish or hip, but also not an uninspiring hotel. If you have a car, there's valet out front, but also an affordable overnight parking garage two blocks west on Salmon Street (20 USD).

The restaurant was closed for renovations and I believe the hotel is also getting new ownership. There is free coffee served in the morning and it's quite doable to find bagels or something at 5-minutes' distance. Staff was mostly quite young and engagement with guests tended to differ from one person to the next, but overall I didn't find this all too problematic. Downtown Portland does have a jarring homelessness problem, combined with substance abuse. This was not in the immediate vicinity of the hotel but for some it may not be comfortable to walk across the downtown area.

The room was spacious for one person, the room was clean and amenities (coffee, tea) were good. The bed was comfortable, though a bit on the soft side (and small for a queen?). TV had a lot of channels and the wifi was OK. I stayed for 7 nights and housecleaning came twice; they were able to take my trash and give me towels on days when they didn't come into my room. The library room was a nice place to work or unwind after a long day. The train is close and restaurants, the Pearl, Target, and Whole Foods are short walks or tram/streetcar rides away. The minibar fridge is small, but I was able to store drinks and snacks there. The valets were nice and greeted customers. Free coffee/tea downstairs in the morning was a perk. There are a couple of great coffee places nearby.

The sound of room doors closing make a LOUD sound from the hall that woke me up at night a few times. A crying baby in the next room was very audible in my own room (nothing against the baby or the parents, just that the sound-proofing in my room was not great). I was told at check-in in that I would not have housekeeping during my stay, but the staff the next day told me there is cleaning every three days. I am not sure what the actual policy is. There is a fitness center (I guess?) but no laundry on premises, which makes it hard to exercise and have clean clothes (they do offer a laundry service, but I don't like others handling my dirty clothes). There was no restaurant, which was slightly inconvenient.

Breakfast in the Library, nice areas to relax, browsing through the library. Staff serving meals and drinks were fantastic, and very helpful with travel advice. I. Particular Connie, Paige and Jen were great. Great valet parking service, although very expensive!

Room amenities were lacking. No bottled water, limited tea and coffee facilities. No teaspoons, power points were not well located. Bath and shower products were low quality. Evening front desk staff was very indifferent to providing service.

Clean room, nice lobby, friendly staff, had a nice but small variety of food/beverages for purchase in the lobby. Linens were amazing, great pillows, nice room layout. We had a corner room and enjoyed the couch and extra armchair.

We could hear people in the next room pretty clearly, they were participating in a conference call and we could hear every single word from that call, it was pretty weird, not what I'd expect in a high quality hotel. Also it was disappointing there wasn't a bar downstairs but that apparently closed due to Covid business slowdown so that was to be expected.

I selected the Heathman as I like non-chain / boutique hotels. Staff have been very helpful and provided plenty of tips that proved helpful in Portland. Overall I cannot fault the experience. They even accommodated our wine tasting which was held in my room as it provided ample place for 7 of us (compared to the conference hotel others stayed in) - and they noted they'd book the Heathman the next time they visit Portland.

Nothing, it was excellent.

The location was perfect, we were 15min in each direction from a great meal, strong drinks, and hot coffee. The hotel and staff were exceptional. Amazing customer service, the snack bar was filled everyday, and the hotel was very clean and comfortable. Every single staff member made an effort to positively impact our stay, and although valet is $50 per day, it’s worth not having to fight for street parking. We had a great time with our small dog walking around Downtown Portland, the room was also very dog friendly. We will most definitely be back and would recommend this to anyone looking for a clean, comfortable, and conveniently located hotel in Downtown Portland.

I loved everything about the property! 10/10

Beautifully decorated rooms in a great location. The lobby and library are also stunning, though we didn’t get a chance to eat or drink anything there. The staff were also very positive and accommodating and didn’t bat an eye at our post midnight check in or before 7am check out.

The bathroom was on the small side. Also, we were a little surprised there was no daily housekeeping considering the price of the property. We would’ve liked to have our bins emptied each day at least.
