Conveniently located near Motohakone-ko (very close to the Motohakone-ko Tozan bus stop and near the Motohakone pier), there's a steep slope to get to the ryokan, but if you call them using the payphone in front of the 7-11 close to the bus stop they'll pick you up. Our room had a private bath and it was absolutely beyond expectations. Comfortable room (although you may need to get used to walk on tatami and sit in a kotatsu), and along with the private bath you can also use the public baths of the ryokan (they're not "public" after 17.00 until 10 in the following morning, so you can just lock the door and have a time for yourself). Service is also on top of things as staff was very, very helpful. They speak English, although knowing a bit of Japanese may get the point across better (I switched from English to Japanese and vice versa depending on the occasion). The ryokan will also receive baggage sent from Hakone-Yumoto's baggage delivery service (and also send them back to the station), which can be very useful if you want to go around the Hakone area without being slowed down. Our plan had breakfast and it was plentiful (far more than what I use to have!) and tasty. The price can be steep, but it's worth every single cent.
Nothing really of concern to report, to be honest.

The meals were delicious and meticulous, we had both dinner and breakfast served in our room. The staff was friendly and we were able to communicate in English. The facilities were clean and had everything you could’ve asked for. We had an open air bath in our room and we’re also able to use the private onsens. It was a plus for us too because both male & female were able to enter the private onsen at the same time. This was one thing we looked for in particular since we both have tattoos so the privacy was a must for us. The location is great, very close to the bus stop & the hakone shrine which was one of the sights we wanted to see
Construction was being done outside our window but that was out of the control of the staff.

This isn’t just a hotel but an authentic Japanese experience. From the moment my husband, daughter (9yrs) and I checked in we were warmly welcomed and the service from the staff was amazing. We genuinely feel like we got to experience true Japanese culture during our stay.
There is a bit of a hill to get up to the hotel, it’s not long but it is quite steep, so probably not ideal to attempt with any large luggage items (they have a shuttle bus during check in/out times available). In saying that it didn’t stop us walking up and down it into town at all, even during wet weather.

The perfect place for a restful and peaceful getaway. We received excellent service and attention to detail while we stayed here. The staff were helpful and friendly. The breakfast was delicious with a generous portion and a variety of dishes. Upon arrival we were provided with a warm refreshing towel to clean our hands. We also received a welcome drink which was a choice of either matcha or white wine. Our luggage was taken to our room directly. We were then taken on a tour of the place and were introduced to our room. Our room had a private outdoor hot spring bath which we thoroughly enjoyed throughout our 4 day stay there. We had complete privacy with a view of the garden. The birds were bathing in the stream right outside our room. It was peaceful and quiet. The area itself is conveniently located. The convenient store is just down the slope from the accommodation while restaurants are all within walking distance. If you can’t appreciate peace and quiet then this is not the place for you. The accommodation feels like staying at a loving grandma’s house. You won’t get the modern luxury hotel feel, but the peaceful atmosphere is guaranteed. If you’re looking for rest and relaxation then I highly recommend this place. I’m grateful for the top service provided by the staff of Hananoyado Fukuya. They went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. One of the evenings it was raining heavily and they insisted to drop us off at where we wanted to go. They were very caring and concerned. We appreciated their care and lot. Also, it is very nice that they replenished the beverages in the refrigerator daily and paid attention to what needed refreshing or replenishing. Thank you for the memorable trip!!
Nothing.

The staff was super understanding despite travel hiccups that made us late. We enjoyed the beautiful Kaiseki dinner that we purchased as part of our stay through Booking. And felt very much renewed spiritually through our own private hot spring bath. Even though the place was completely booked, it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves as we never saw anyone else besides staff.
Since we were late to check-in, we missed the welcome tea with the view of Mt. Fuji. But we can only advise others to make sure to plan their transportation (either local bus or taxi services) carefully as most options stop around 5 or 6 pm.

The dinner and breakfast experience was amazing and the staff that attended to us were very friendly and helpful. My wife was pregnant during the stay and the ryokan was able to cater to her limitations well. I enjoyed using both the private bath in our balcony and the onsen room right next door to our room. It was extremely relaxing. I am so happy the room had a kotatsu..
I wish we had a clearer view of the mountains from the room, I feel like there was too many plants blocking our view. Apart from that leaving the hotel at night on foot, felt a bit risky, as the path leading down to the main road was not lighted well.

Very friendly and accommodative staff, not only did they allow us to have both types of breakfast/dinner (stayed for 2 nights), which was utterly delicious and filling, but was also very accommodating in my requests as we were there for our honeymoon. Super neat and tidy accommodation with stunning views of Lake Ashi just a couple of minutes walk away and the start of the trail just outside, the private onsen was wonderful too and would highly recommend. Overall an incredible experience as it was our first time staying in a ryokan and were both very grateful to the staff for making our stay that much more special.
Nothing, it’s a quiet little town when we went so I knew restaurants/bars close early but because we had booked our half board, it was fine for us.

We stayed for 2 nights at Hananoyado Fukuya, and it was a lifetime experience. This was the highlight of our 2-week trip to Japan. The Japanese hospitality was incredible, and we loved the authentic experience. The hotel has two private onsens available on a first-come, first-served basis, which were always accessible. The food was amazing and worth a Michelin star. The hotel is in a perfect location, just a 4-minute walk to a pier with a breathtaking view of Mount Fuji. You can enjoy the view early in the morning before the tourists arrive, sharing it only with local fishermen. They served different menus each day of our stay and provided complimentary water and beer. The rooms were top-notch, with traditional tatami beds prepared for you, making the experience feel like a 10-star vacation. We felt completely relaxed. This hotel offers the best view of Mount Fuji in the Hakone area. We highly recommend staying at this hotel.
I liked everything.

Everything was exceptional from the very beginning, the staff was always helpful and polite, the facilities are so authentic and unique. The hotel has a few rooms so you feel like all the staff is always pending on you without being invasive. There is always one lady that is attentive on all you need and the one who serves you the traditional Japanese breakfast at your room each morning. We stayed at the room with private onsen and was a dream it is so worth the price. The room was all tatami and was divided by 5 main sections the bedroom, the massive living room a small kitchen area and the bathroom area which included a vanity room/ toilet room and shower room plus the private onsen. All for us. We also asked for the massage services which were provided on the first floor of the hotel and were also exceptional. The last day was a sunny day so we were able to see Mount Fuji from the main reception. As from our room the view was blocked by trees but it’s part of being on the hill around by forest. If you are looking to immerse yourself into the real Japanese experience, this is the best place.
Everything was perfect. If you are going by bus, you just have to make sure to contact them at the time you arrive to the lake area so they can pick you up in the main bus/ ferry station so you don’t have to carry your luggage through the hill. Which we by mistake did.

Comfortable spacious room, exceptionally kind staff, who provide a wonderful traditional ryokan experience. We were travelling in a group of three friends and decided to book the room with a private onsen, and kaiseki breakfast. Our first experience was arriving at the 7-11 in town, and the location is up a hill, so we were to call them upon arrival and they sent a white van down to pick us up, labeled with the name of the hotel. The driver was very nice and insisted on loading our many pieces of large luggage himself before driving us up the hill. Be nice to the staff, travel lighter than we did! From there you’re in the care of the hotel staff, they will transport your bags into your room, stow and put out your shoes and umbrellas at the lobby for whenever you go out and come back, and lead you through the traditions (and house rules or requests) starting with a cup of matcha and sweets with a panoramic hillside view of trees (and possibly Mt Fuji on a clear day) as you fill in the check-in forms. When you go out and come back, just make sure to inform the staff of your timing, leave your room keys with them at the desk for pickup when you return. They asked that we try to be back by 8, which is fine as most places in the village are close pretty early and you can have a very nice evening view of the lake, Tori gate, and sunset by then, and then return in time to enjoy the baths at the ryokan for the evening. There is a steep hill to and from the location to the village but it’s also a fairly short hill and around the corner, and it’s quite close then to the 7-11 at the center of town. The room was gorgeous, with lots of space, even a kotatsu, and the attached private onsen was beautiful as the pictures show. We were so full after breakfast each morning, with so many different items to try. I had a few allergies and they took these seriously.
Just the hill to the place, but the pickup driver will take you and your luggage up when you arrive and back down at the end of your stay.
