Cozy atmosphere hotel with a very accomodating staff. Onsen in the room was fantastic.

No sidewalk to the hotel so it might be dangerous to reach on foot, especially after dark. Ask the hotel staff for the free shuttle service from Kowakidani station.

It is a beautiful hotel and we had a beautiful room with a private onsen tub. We had a suite that had a bedroom and separate lounge area with a huge day bed surrounded by woodland views. We also used one of the private onsen rooms available on a first come first serve basis and it was a great experience. Staff were really friendly and helpful.

Although our room was largely wonderful, our bed needed updating. Our suite was very much suited to a romantic break for a couple but our bed was two singles pushed together with separate duvets. That is quite traditional in Japan but even taking that into account, the mattresses themselves needed updating as they were old fashioned spring mattresses. Another small niggle is that I informed the hotel that my partner does not eat meat and I knew that they would not change the menu, but was surprised that they did not acknowledge this at at the start of the meal and at least ask if he would rather not have the meat put in front of him.

The staff was pleasant and the hotel is beautiful with spectacular open hot spring baths (private) in each room which is in addition to the private onsens (larger ones) available to use for all customers in the hotel. Regret not relaxing in the rooms next to these onsen which have a peaceful ambience. The primary purpose was to visit Hakone. The hotel staff was kind enough to drop us off in the hotel-car at the nearest train station. To visit Hakone, we took the route in the order - train, hill train, ropeway, ship, and finally the bus back to the hotel. I wouldn't recommend the route in the reverse because the distance between the station and the hotel is around a kilometre or two. The bus stand is around 100m away.

The food was great but not everyone's taste since it is a typical japanese meal. Also, the timing of the meal is rigid (around 18:30 in the evening and 08:00 in the morning) and at the discretion of the hotel though I think they were willing to wiggle it around by 15 mins or so. Also, the accommodation fee maybe a tad bit expensive.

tranquility and serene surroundings and in-room, public and family private hot spring facilities

dinner and breakfast have no other choices - for non-fish eaters like us is very disappointing. We have to return the breakfast and just drink coffee. please offer alternatives to fish for guests

Private onsen in room. Reception area Large room (although we paid extra for junior suite). Bed was comfortable.

Property is in need of update especially rooms as ours felt tired with old furniture and carpets need updating to give a more modern feel. Very expensive; breakfast should be included when you are paying high prices.

Beautiful room & facilities. We booked a suite with a private onsen and it was magical! Our room overlooked a large stream and had fly-screens on the doors to the balcony, so we left the doors open and could hear the trickling stream throughout the entire suite. The private onsen was also semi-open air and the timber tub was very aromatic. The hotel also has both a public onsen (separated by gender) and 3 private onsens that you can use for 45mins at a time, so there's plenty of opportunity to onsen. The location was also convenient, with a bus stop right out the front of the property. The staff were also lovely and very helpful.

The room was very spacious and had a great view of the mountain. It was peaceful and quiet which made soaking in the private onsen very relaxing. Facilities were clean and modern. I especially loved the bathroom (the toilet was private). We did have an onsen bath in the room but we also tried the private onsen which was great. Unlimited drinks were available in the same floor. ++ cause they had hot Matcha and Latte. Sleepwear was provided and there were 2 blankets so we didn't have to fight over it when the night got colder. The dinner and breakfast were delicious too. I felt bad for not finishing them all off though. Staff were very helpful. Exceptional service overall. It's also a plus that the bus stop is right in front so although the place is secluded and quiet, it's easy to get to. I look forward to staying again!

Although facilities were modern, the hotel itself is visibly aged.

The shared onsen (available for private use on a first come first serve basis) was fantastic and very relaxing - it's really nice to be able to share this together as a couple, as normally onsens tend to be gender separated. The room was very spacious, and had a lot of character. The lady who checked us in was very helpful, and even let us check in early as our room was available - this was much appreciated as the weather wasn't great when we arrived. There's a bus stop very close to the hotel. The view from both our room and the lobby was charming. And we really enjoyed the piano performance which happens on Saturdays :)

We had a private onsen in our room, which was unfortunately scalding hot to the point it wasn't usable. However, we managed to cool it off by running the shower cold, and putting it into the onsen tub. The shower barely reached and it didn't feel like we should have had to do this. Once the water stopped burning, it was very enjoyable though. It would be better if there was a dedicated cold water tap in the onsen itself, or if the water was a nicer temperature. The hotel is a little dated.

Smaller, boutique-type hotel, good quality. Loved the view and the location was fine from the perspective of relaxing in the hotel. Ok location for sightseeing. We were picked up from the train station by hotel staff. Staff were helpful and polite and endeavoured to correct mistakes made due to some language barriers, enjoyed a shiatsu massage in our room before bed at what was for us a reasonable price, enjoyed a private onsen with forest/river outlook, lovely to have a view of forest and bubbling stream from our room as well. Clean neat room, main room and toilet good size but would recommend booking a room with a bath as the shower and sink area were quite small. Liked how the room felt and the well-maintained vintage style decor. Was able to borrow an iron from reception. Lovely reception area. Complimentary coffee, cafe latte, cappucino, hot chocolate, cocoa, tea and water in the downstairs relaxation area. Can buy softdrinks and icecream. Found the hotel pajamas very comfortable and could wear them anywhere in the hotel, including to eat meals at the restaurant. Reception brought an extra-large pair of pajamas for my tall, stocky son. Liked the split socks. As well as in room baths, there are three private onsen so if you have tatoos you can still enjoy an onsen. My son liked the Japanese multiple-course dinner. Breakfast was Japanese style. If you wish to try unusual Japanese-style cuisine, the hotel food offerings would be suitable for you.

Due to location it is not as easy for sightseeing and eating out as some other hotels. A number of miscommunications occurred due to language barriers. Although some staff spoke English quite well, others did not. When ordering dinner and breakfast via booking.com, remember to specify exact dates for each meal that you wish to order so there is no confusion/incorrect assumptions made. If you need a western food fix, do not book the meals at the hotel. Having eaten lunch, I could not enjoy the multiple course dinner at the hotel.

I really liked being out in the woods, there was so much beauty that surrounded us and we were a stones throw from the train and bus station. The room was super cozy, the bed was a bit stiff. But overall it was a very pleasant stay. The front desk also had a taxi service to take you from the train station to the hotel. The views and nature around the area is stunning. If you do need the taxi service I would email the hotel because the walk from the train station is a bit sketchy since the roads very twisty and there isn’t a sidewalk that goes all the way to the hotel.

Honestly I didn’t like the bed. It was like rock solid and it felt like I was sleeping on cement. But we had a private Onsen in my room which made up for it.
