The location and ryokan itself were incredible. We stayed in the Luxury Suite with Open Air bath and it was stunningly beautiful. All staff were lovely and very helpful and the dinner and breakfasts were delicious. It was such a treat having two separate private onsens (one in the bathroom and one on the deck). The onsen on the deck has a spectacular view across a valley. This was a special treat for our 10-year wedding anniversary and it did not disappoint!

There were a few spots where a bit more maintenance could be done: the couch in the room was worn through and there was a spot on the side balcony that was caving it. It was signed and we didn't go near it, but it would be better if it were fixed.

I had an unforgettable experience at this ryokan, and I can't say enough good things about it. First, the property itself is stunning. The traditional Japanese architecture and serene garden create a peaceful atmosphere that immediately transports you to a different world. The room I stayed in was spacious and beautifully appointed, with traditional tatami mats and a comfortable futon. The sliding doors opened up to a private terrace overlooking a breathtaking view. Now, let's talk about the Japanese dinner served in the room. It was an absolute feast for the senses. The presentation was a work of art, and every dish was bursting with flavors I had never experienced before. Dining in the comfort and privacy of my own room made it even more special. And then there's the private onsen on the terrace. Soaking in the hot spring water was a magical experience: It was incredibly relaxing and rejuvenating. But what truly made this stay exceptional was the wonderful staff, particularly the young lady named Aoi (I hope that her name is correct). Her sweetness and professionalism went above and beyond to make my stay memorable. She was attentive to every detail and made me feel like a valued guest. Overall, this ryokan exceeded all my expectations. It's a place where tradition and luxury meet, creating an unforgettable Japanese experience.

We recently had the pleasure of spending two nights at Hakone Tokinoshizuku, staying in their top floor suite. Our stay was a delightful mix of luxury, exceptional service, and breathtaking scenery, though there were a few areas that could use some attention. Upon arrival, we were immediately struck by the beauty of the location. Nestled in the serene landscape of Hakone, the surroundings provided a tranquil escape from our busy lives. The view from our suite was stunning, adding to the overall sense of relaxation. One of the highlights of our stay was undoubtedly the Onsen experience. The outdoor Onsen was a dream, offering a serene and soothing soak amidst nature. The indoor Onsen was equally impressive, providing a perfect retreat from the cooler evenings. Both Onsens were meticulously clean and beautifully maintained, offering a rejuvenating experience. Dining at Hakone Tokinoshizuku was an exquisite experience. The five-course (in-room) degustation dinner was a culinary journey, with each course beautifully presented and bursting with flavour. The chef’s attention to detail and the use of fresh, local ingredients were evident in every bite. We cannot praise the staff enough for their attentive service. Kai, in particular, went above and beyond to ensure our stay was perfect. His warm hospitality and keen attention to detail made us feel truly special and well-cared for.

It’s important to mention that the overall condition of the property left something to be desired. The stairwell had noticeable mould, and the balcony of our apartment had several rotten floorboards, which was concerning. Additionally, the hallway carpet was old, stained, and uneven. While these issues did not significantly detract from the quality of our stay, they are worth noting for potential guests.

Quiet rooms, great staff and food prepared and served beautifully. Seki did an excellent job when I had kyseki dinner! The rest of the staff were all engaging and very kind and patient with my terrible Japanese. I cannot recall the name of the server in the of my breakfast but she was so sweet. The two staff who checked me out were also lovely and very professional. The location of the hotel was so nice and quiet and such a wonderful retreat. I wish I had stayed for 2 days instead of one. Would come back again

The rooms were in a bit of disrepair, a cabinet door literally fell off it's hinges. There were some areas of the bath that had some damage on the walls. However I while it was a bit dated the rooms were still clean, quiet and I would definitely stay there again

The ryokan was fantastic. Staff was incredible and we felt so spoiled. Having a private onsen in the room after traveling so much was so luxurious. There was also a public onsen on site, that we did not use due of lack of time, but i was told tattoos are accepted there. Room was very spacious. We also really enjoyed the dinner in the room experience. We had never experienced kaiseki before and were pleasantly surprised. Definitely too much food and expect to spend 2 hours for it, but so worth it. The ryokan also picked us up from a nearby train station and dropped us off the next day at another one. Highly recommend treating yourself to this!

Place was definitely a little old, but to us that was part of the experience.

The view was spectacular. We could see the valley from every part of our room. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Onsen was comfortable and soothing. The dinner alone was enough to make us fall in love with the place. Fun fact: This hotel makes fresh soba in house.

The room felt a bit damp. Given the location of the hotel and layout of the rooms (in a valley with waterfalls and lush forest, with wide windows/doors to seamlessly connect the indoor and outdoor spaces), it is understandably a challenge to bring down the humidity for such a large room. This can potentially be improved with an in-wall dehumidifier or running the air con more consistently.

Our corner room was very spacious with a view toward the open air art gallery. Unfortunately Mount Fuji was not visible on any of the days we stayed. We took the bus up from Hakone-Yamumoto station and had our bags delivered by the delivery service from the station. This allowed us to do all of the sites early in the morning and be free for the afternoon. We caught the early Romantic Car from Shinjuku station to Odawara and then Hakone and used the Hakone free pass for the tram, cable car and ship on the lake. Room was very spacious and the onsen was great at the end of the day even in summer. The evening meal was Japanese but silver service served in our room. It was amazing and I can't say how much we enjoyed it. Dinner was also served in the morning in our room as well.

Nothing to fault

Very spacious room. The high note is the private onsen on the balcony. We have used it twice a day. The breakfast and dinner served in the room were spectacular. We had one western breakfast and the other Japanese. the staff are very nice and friendly. The location is not suitable to walk but they provide shuttle bus taking us to the nearby stations which is handy.

The room furniture is a worn and someplace the wood penal would fall off by itself. Otherwise everything is fine

Phenomenal amenities and view. Very nice mixed design of the room. Private onsen was a beautiful experience. Staff was exceptionally nice and the service was top notch. They offered a shuttle and instructions from a nearby station. Toiletries, shower, and toilet were all great. The balcony view was great to watch sunrise and sunset (my room didn't have direct sunrise, but the valley begins to light nicely)

Windy Weather makes going out tough, but with such a great room I was happy to stay. Food was authentic mountain ryokan with local ingredients. Some items will not have mass appeal, but I was appreciative to try it.

The Kaiseki dinner was exceptional. 7 courses laid out beautifully in our room. Staff were very nice and friendly. We didn’t seen the rest of the hotel as we were taken straight to the room and served both dinner and breakfast there. Rooms were large and the view was excellent. We looked across the valley to the Hakone Outdoor Museum. We had a private onsen on our balcony.

The rooms and the private onsen area were a little dated and needed some maintenance/ lick of paint. Given how good dinner was, although breakfast was also nice, it wasn’t any comparison to dinner. Wifi didn’t work too well but that wasn’t an issue as we were there for a night only
