The staff was courteous and helpful. Many spoke English, so while we never expect it, it's always a bonus and makes things easier. The breakfast bar had a wide assortment of both typical Japanese and Western breakfast foods. And dinner was AMAZING. It started with appertif, then appetizers, sashimi, hot pot, grilled meat... There were at least 8 or 9 different servings. We were stuffed and couldn't finish everything (but I tried 😉). The onsens were luxurious, as was our room, which came with the sauna. We had a room with a tatami and roll-out beds, so I could've used a little more padding, but that didn't detract from the experience at all. I enjoyed this girl's trip so much I booked again with my family.

Excellent Ryokan with many options for the onsen. It was worthwhile booking with dinner and breakfast. Dinner was delicious and breakfast selection was huge.

Could be a bit hard to get to the location without a car. There is a bus from Matsumoto station that will take you there but it is not going to have much space for luggage. The staff try their best but not all of them can speak English. Best if you can speak a bit of Japanese

The hotel is in a great location overlooking the city. The onsen facilities are brilliant and we also enjoyed the games room. But the real highlight was the incredible kaiseki dinner - several small courses each served or cooked on the table. It was a real work of art. Very special. And after all the amazing food we had had in Japan, we were really impressed.

Beautiful decor that told about the crafts in the area. They had a live jazz group that brought so much joy and happiness to us. The spa/osen was exceptional. They had all the bath essentials needed and the best part was the wonderfully after bath products they provided—Lotions for the skin and face, lotions for aching body parts, and wonderful products for the hair. I wish we could buy these products somewhere, but was told that they were only at the osen. The dinner was amazing with local produce and meats and the breakfast buffet was out of this world. They had Japanese and western foods with made to order omelets. We wanted to eat there the whole week! The staff was very helpful and accommodating. Also we loved the baggage holding service at their sister hotel, Ace Inn and the shuttle from the Matsumoto station to the hotel. We dropped our bags at the Inn and it was there for us when we checked in at Shoho. We had a wonderful time at Shoho!

The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The Onsen venues are remarkable. Huge and has good views in one of them. Food spread at breakfast is sumptuous, allowing us to taste the different Jap cuisines all in the morning! The dinner was also a good experience with quality food served. I must commend on a staff at the reception who took the initiative to reserve a place for us when she learnt where we were going. Without that, the second night dinner could not have taken place as the place was run by only one person.

I really have nothing to add here, considering the reasonable price I have paid. Only perhaps travellers should note that this is quite far off the city.

Room and onsens were very nice. Hotel lobby floor has nice seating areas.

The hotel has 3 restaurants but if you do not include breakfast and dinner at time of booking, the hotel restaurant’s staff is not very accommodating. The hotel was recommended to us by our friend, a Japanese travel agent. She and her daughter came and stayed at the hotel, for one night, to visit with us. They wished to have breakfast with us the next morning but the hotel could not find a time for them to join us at the breakfast buffet. When we ate at 8 am, the resturant tables were half empty.

Everything. Ambience grand yet intimate; room very clean, large and comfortable; Onsen facilities were excellent; breakfast provided an extensive range of fine choices; dinners were superb, beautifully presented degustations; staff most welcoming and helpful; shuttle to and from rail station very useful. Altogether, significantly contributed to an absolutely delightful stay in the beautiful and interesting township of Matsumoto.

Easy accommodation on the outskirts of Matsumoto. Appeared to have great Onsen facilities but did not have time to try them as only stayed one night. Breakfast the best of our trip so far.

The location. The hotel is 7km outside Matsumoto centre although is well-served by a local bus as well as the hotel’s own shuttle bus. This is a large hotel complex but unless you have pre-booked dinner at least 24 hours before, the only option is to head back into town or find a convenience store as there is no room service or local restaurants.

The room was spacious and beyond what I expected in terms of amenities. It was extremely large. The outdoor bath in the room was great. The living room/tatami room had a massive nearly floor to ceiling window with a great view of the city below. The room not only had hot water kettle, not only coffee, but whole coffee beans with a hand grinder and pour over set up to make fresh coffee if you are into that. Very nice touch! The breakfast buffet was totally amazing and way beyond what I expect in terms of quality and diversity of options.

I think the private rental indoor bath was a bit small and perhaps not worth the fee for a 45 minute usage. The window was fogged over as the bath was next to it so we couldn’t see the night city view well.

The property is in an amazing location upon the mountain side in Matsumoto, approximately 20 minutes from the train station. It is peaceful and well appointed. We stayed in the room with a private bath and the views were to die for. I recommend getting the dinner at least once during your stay. It’s traditional Japanese dinner, small courses served over about an hour and a half, the food was magnificent. There are private and public onsens available for use. The staff are exceptionally helpful and kind. Overall a 10/10 experience.
