The hostel was located really close to Nara Station and about 20 minutes walk to the Nara Park and Todai-ji temple. Plenty of clean kitchenware so we could have breakfast if we wanted to. Clean toilets and clean place. The staff was super super nice. We didn't really speak Japanese but they helped us to carry the luggage to our rooms and explain to us in a map what to visit in Nara, including some places where to spot the cherry tree blossoms! We asked to keep our luggage the next morning and for a small fee we could keep it with them until almost 3pm when our checkout was at 10am. That was really appreciated!
I didn't really understand the garbage system , not so sure where to leave the food waste but apart from that all good.

I had a wonderful experience at Hilo Hostel in Nara. The room was clean and fresh, and the shared bathroom was in excellent condition. The common area had everything needed to cook a meal, enjoy a reheated dish, and have a great time. But what really made our stay memorable was the owner, Mr. Hilo. He's an incredibly kind individual, always eager to assist tourists, up for a chat, and he welcomed us in a way that made us feel right at home. I wholeheartedly recommend this place to all future visitors to Nara.

Lovely simple room, and comfy bed. Everything very clean, including shared bathroom, was not busy during our stay (only saw one other person) despite going during peak cherry blossom season. Fast wifi, owners brought our luggage to our room for us!
Possibly consider the stairs if you stay here - some may find it physically difficult to carry things up and down, although this wasn't a problem for us.

Everything was great! Hilo and his wife especially make this the best place to stay in Nara. They are the kindest people you will ever meet, period. He gave me a map and even walked me the 10 minutes to the park as I left for some sightseeing! The place is clean and everything works well. and there’s everything you could really need: washer and dryer, big shower stalls, leaving bags before and after check in, kitchenette, bath towels for rent (although they waived the very tiny cost <3). As a solo female I felt very safe. Good conversations with other travellers was also a plus! Would 150% recommend staying here.
The bunk beds are a little creaky, but basically I have nothing bad to say about the place!

Hilo-san and his daughters the most lovely people you will meet, so please take your time to chat with them. The hostel is perfectly located 2min from Nara station, and you can go everywhere in Nara by walking around. Many restaurants and convenience store just a few meters away, and the hostel as a fully equipped and clean kitchen that you can use. Free coffee/tea. Good WiFi. The dormitory is well organised, confortable beds with privacy, lockers, and very calm! No noise at all during the night. If you want to meet true japanese people please come to this hostel 👍 ヒロさん、ありがとうごさいます!

Staff were super helpful and friendly. The location is perfect as it’s easy to get to Nara Park and Nara station within walking distance. The bed was really comfortable and the room/bathroom area clean
Unfortunately as it’s a hostel you will always get someone who doesn’t abide to the rules. So in my case someone had some trainers washing in the washing machine past curfew and it was so loud I couldn’t sleep until later. Not the staffs fault at all.

I don’t think I have ever rated a property as perfect, but this was one of the best hostels I have ever stayed in. It is immaculately clean, and well located only minutes walking from Nara Station and Nara Park. Hiro-San and his family are the most generous hostel hosts I have ever encountered. They will go out of their way to help you! Thank you so much for my stay here!! Ben (the Kokogakusha!)

The staff. Friendly and accomodating, most especially Mr. Hiro (I'm not sure if I say his name correctly). And plus the fact that it's very near Nara station, about 5 minutes walk. It's also near restaurants and the attractions in Nara. I just walked to Nara Park to see the deer, about 20-25 mins.

I cannot express how much this family made me feel like I was being welcomed into their home. Each one of them showed the utmost kindness to me the entire stay. From teaching me how to make matcha, oragami, and traditional japanese meals to teaching me how to mail letters back to the states from japan and even doing my laundry for free. This place is special along with being very close to Nara park and what makes it special are the people running it.
It was great

Had a pleasant stay at Hilo hostel. Though the beds were on the 3rd floor, Hilo, the host was so kind to help me with my luggage. Very clean and comfy spacious bed so I slept very well. It was great I was able to cook in the fully equipped kitchen. Location was fantastic, very close to the train station, Nara Park and many shops and restaurants around the area. Thank you, Hilo!
I wish it's an open terrace but guess it's rare in Japan.
