October 2023

The Hotel is in a beautiful old building. There are not a lot of rooms, so also at breakfast it is not really crowded. It is directly at the main road at President Place but our room was toward the back, so it was really quiet. Our room had a great balcony with sunbathing chairs overlooking parts of the city. Breakfast choice is small but made with love. There are always fresh fruits available. There is a grocery store about 100 meters away.

Since it is an old building, rooms are not noise proof. Not that it was disturbing, just something that people should know. Walking into the city means that you have to walk a bit along a busy road on small sidewalks for probably 500 meters. It is not directly in the center but you can walk to the main downtown attractions. There are no hot dishes for breakfast (apart from Toast) Bathroom was pretty large but there was not really space created to put the toiletries.

Loved that it was an old mansion and still had a lot of the features. It was clean and comfortable and all the staff were exceptional. The location was easy to find and easy to get to all the sights in Porto. Would definitely stay here again.

Unfortunately due to the nature of the building and because we were there in the early spring it was very windy, and the noise coming in at the side window disturbed our sleep. Which wasn’t good 🙁 It sounded like a freight train whistling through. Then also when the wind was bad at the terrace doors they just rattled all night !! So another disturbed night which took until the early hours before could sleep ie after 3am ! Reception did try to see if they could fix the whistling window but not successful due to nature of the building . Also surprised no heated towel rail or radiator in the bathroom. This meant had to have towels changed daily as we couldn’t have dried them to reuse like we would normally do to do our bit for saving the planet.

July 2023

We booked the superior room with a terrace which did not disappoint. We stayed for a few days in early July and were delighted by how clean, spacious, and comfortable the room was (with blackout shades). The building itself was very unassuming on the outside but quite beautiful on the inside, with a little bar area and 24/7 concierge, and even a little tray of fresh local pastries (for free) to nibble on at any point. The staff was friendly, helpful, and our room was changed over fresh every day. The terrace was a nice touch and offered a nice outside space to relax with a glass of wine when getting ready to go out for dinner. Bathroom was newly updated. The air conditioner was reliable and cold (which you can't always find in a European hotel room). The location was great, though be prepared to walk 20+ minutes to the riverfront - however it is really close to a busy strip with restaurants and night spots that cater to a young, vibrant crowd. We would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Porto for a few days!

The window sill in the bathroom was wood, and based on its location (in the shower), I would recommend that the hotel replace it with something that would be easier to maintain, since water from the shower gets on the wood and can make it moldy. The terrace/glass balcony wall should be checked for cleanliness as it was covered in bird poop before we even got there.

very attractive building kept in good order. clean airy pleasant room. Comfortable bed with quality bedlinen. Excellent powerful shower. Helpful staff. A few homeless people in square but not aggressive or worrying even late at night. Much worse in San Francisco ! a few streets south of hotel many excellent restaurants that appeared more for residents and students than tourists which was nice.

no chair in room. no art in room. no milk or dry substitute in room for tea/coffee. breakfast rather basic - orange juice very poor for a country that grows citrus fruit. dreadful whining noise from pedestrian crossing outside made it impossible to leave window open at night. this is eliminated if the double glazed window is shut, and there is air con, but I prefer fresh air.

I reserved a large room, but it turned out to be much larger than we expected- we could easily have played mini-golf inside (we didn't!). Also, the room was very tall inside with Victorian plasterwork ceiling. Personnel very friendly and helpful. Breakfast much better than expected. Very big TV. Location is not on any of the conventional spots but is near many of them and in 10 to 15 minutes you can walk leisurely to Avenida dos Aliados or Rua de Santa Catarina or Rua da Cedofeita. To us that was perfect because I actually wanted to visit booksellers and they are all located nearby. Another strong point is easy access by car from the freeway, in and out, but to find the shortest and most convenient route you may need a GPS navigating system because many streets in Porto are unidirectional. I almost always travel by car and like the comfort of having the car parked at the hotel. This one has maybe 10 parking places on its grounds, half of them under a shade, and the parking was what made me consider it in the first place, even though I had never stayed there, because hotels with own parking are getting rarer at the town center. Now I will return.

I can't really remember anything I did not like (sorry...). Ah yes: there was a bit of ceiling decay at two spots.

The Rex Hotel 🏨 of ⭐️⭐️ stars has a standard of ⭐️⭐️⭐️ or more ⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️ Every detail is well planned, facilities are super cozy, interior modern design combined with old fashioned historical building makes a lovely vibe. I had a great time and rest passing by Porto for my work purposes. For sure I will come back to this hotel in the future to enjoy more. Thank you for a friendly, helpful and professional staff 🙏🙏🙏 The hotel is also pet friendly and welcomed with the same care my dog 🐕🐾 (remember to book an economic room if you come with your pet). I have booked the one in basement: beautiful, spascios and quiet connected directly to the open space of the parking lot by the coridor with the second entrance door. Perfect for a short walk. There is also a green park just in front of the hotel 🏨🌳🌲

There was not a single thing I disliked. Big up for the beautiful investment and high standard !

The staff in this little boutique hotel couldn't be more incredible. Soooo friendly and helpful. Breakfast is amazing, there are little pastries available all day long. Beds are extremely comfortable and the shower is perfect.

Our bathroom was like an ice block and didn't have a fan so our choice was icy ice block with no condensation or dripping wet ice block. (We were here during a chilly winter) My kids said the sofa bed wasn't super comfortable for them.

The breakfast was extremely good, nothing cooked but plenty of anything else you’d require from cereals to pastries. Excellent coffee/tea facilities.

There’s nothing we didn’t like, the only downside was in our room there wasn’t a wardrobe or draws, there was a metal frame with a long mirror which you could hang your clothes from. It’s a minor point really, the bed was very comfortable and the room was bright and clean.

Beautiful property in a great location. It felt like I was immersing myself into historical Porto. Walking distance to many great landmarks and restaurants. Very professional staff. The parking was also very convenient. Good value.

The breakfast could have had more variety. Some boiled eggs or scrambled eggs would’ve been great. Also a fruit salad.

August 2023

The night staff went out of his way to help us and it was great, we needed to book a tour for the next day and it was very late, they weren’t picking it up and still he made it work. And overall the staff was very friendly. The hotel itself is nice, the bed comfortable, the shower good, the internet worked for my meetings and they accepted my dog!

It’s a little bit out of the way from the city center but it’s a very nice walk so it wasn’t really an issue for us.
