What an exceptional hidden gem! The whole experience was brilliant - booked the day before with no problem, accommodated our precious hound, and looked after us like family. Really warm welcome on arrival, fantastic dinner in the restaurant - which was so busy, so clearly hugely popular (deservedly so), the room was spacious and comfortable and ended with a delicious breakfast. The team make you feel like a member of the family, it's cozy, warm and lovely.

There is nothing we could fault, our stay was super - and we would recommend for sure.

The Breakfast was amazing, choice of cereals, juice, tea or coffee and a full English or full Vegetarian on offer. The food was freshly cooked to order, and clearly good quality ingredients, absolutely lovely, cleared my plate! Room was comfy and well stocked with teabags, coffee and milk as well as complimentary bottles of water. Very cosy, and clean. Nice sized bathroom with big shower, also complimentary soap and shower gels. The pub itself is a traditional pub with real ales, nice wines and its always busy, having been as a pub guest and to eat on a number of occasions previously. I know they do a lovely food menu here, and although our stay was a short one (just one night) and we were meeting friends at another venue on this occasion, I'd highly recommend eating here.

Really warm friendly check in. Really easy. Big room with a decent ensuite. Able to use a heater as was a little chilly. Flat screen TV , kettle , with tea and coffee supplied. Slept well and was quiet. Great little pub also and you can grab a nice meal and a drink downstairs. Breakfast was the best part. Big pot of tea, choice of cereals, juice to fruit and then a fab full Yorkshire breakfast. Locally sourced food also. Thanks guys 👍

I don't write many reviews but feel that the Royal Oak at Gt Ayton deserves some praise. The room was large, airy, comfortable and equipped with everything necessary. In particular I was impressed with the service and friendliness of all the staff. The pub/restarant area is large and welcoming and my meal was excellent. Nice beers on draught. Very good value for money and highly recommended!

Nitpicking here. Bed was a bit spongey. Noisy extractor fan from the kitchen but it went off eventually. That's all.

Great location in wonderful village of Great Ayton. Friendly and welcoming staff. Stayed with our dog who was also made to feel most welcome.

Struggled with the temperature control of the electric shower which went from scalding hot to cold every few seconds.

Cooked Breakfast very good but choice of other breakfast items was limited. The location was excellent for our purposes. We ate dinner in the hotel each night and the quality of the food was excellent. We also liked the special offers available, which were good value.

Breakfast choice limited to cereal, fruit juice and grapefruit. Would have liked yoghurts, croissants and Danish pastries to be available on request. We appreciate only a few rooms but we would have liked more choice at breakfast.

Great location, pub stayed open late and we were able to come back to the room later than we thought as we were visiting friends round the corner. The breakfast was amazing! The pub is situated in centre of Great Ayton and ideal for going to shops and lovely cafes. Lots of new little pubs as well to visit.

Not really anything to criticise. It was more expensive than we thought when we got there but that was probably our fault for booking the room incorrectly. However it is still reasonably priced.

My husband an I have just returned from a two night stay here with our dog. Set in a lovely bustling town. Staff were very helpful,pleasant and friendly and the food including breakfast is great. The room was lovely clean and comfortable. We are looking forward to visiting again.

We stayed in the family room. The beds were very comfortable, and loved how the single beds were through an arch way, as if had another room. The staff were friendly, and welcoming. The food was yummy, especially the parmo I had!

If I had to be very picky, I would say the bathroom was a little dated, but everything worked, and we had hot showers, so it didn’t matter. If it’s not broken, don’t fix it quote comes to mind.

I was on my way up to Sunderland for a football match decided to come up a day earlier and look around the moors. I am used to the area but first time at this hotel. Very impressed with it the location , cleanliness very polite staff and a fantastic breakfast . The only downside was my football team lost. !
