Art Hotel Commercianti

Excellent location, right next to Piazza Maggiore in the historic center of Bologna in a historic building. Very good breakfast with high assortment compared to continental breakfasts. Helpful staff. We stayed in an apartment in the annex, which is in around the corner and it was superb - modernly refurbished, brand new with all the amenities and sparkly clean. The area is full of restaurants and shops and very lively, especially in the weekend. Highly recommended for a getaway to Bologna.

The king bed is supplied with an extra hard mattress, which may be healthy but if you are not used to that degree it may effect your sleep. I found it hard to fall asleep, especially in the first night. I think that the hotel should consider replacing it to a softer kind of mattress.

The reception people were very helpful, providing some good recommendations for restaurants and assistance with taxis. We were also grateful that they spoke great english and were happy to do so. The location of the hotel is fantastic, right in the middle of everything yet tucked away enough to feel quiet and peaceful. The breakfast offers a very comprehensive and generous selection of food. The room was very comfortable and had a great little terrace where we could watch all the swifts swirling around the basilica.

I can't think of anything negative to say as it met all of our expectations and we were very happy with our room.

The rooms are all different, but very nice and eclectic. My room had a small mini bar that even had a chilled glass so that if you made drink it would be cold. All the details were thought through. The location is perfect. I was only there over night so i could fly out early the next morning as I was there for a business trip and was flying out of Bologna. They helped to arrange a taxi to pick me up at 4 am, and the taxi was spot on time to collect me. If I have the opportunity to go back for personal vacation, I will stay here for sure.

The location is unbelievably great. Within less than 5 minutes' walk, and mostly less than 2, are a wide range of high quality shops, caffe bars, restaurants, and an extensive, multi-street/multi-block open air market of all kinds of food along with extensive sidewalk seating with some tourists but far dominated by locals. Within the same distance are the Basilica di San Petronio, Bilbiloteca dell'Archiginnasio, and at least a dozen other important historical buildings and sites. And that is on top of being within 50 steps of Piazza Maggiore which is a wonderful, big plaza where people gather every day to relax and meet. Breakfast quality and selection are outstanding, so good we did not bother going outside to find better (which we often do even when breakfast is included). Beautifully and artfully remodeled, almost museum quality throughout. Outstanding rooms with all the necessary features. Just hard to find any fault whatsoever. One of the best places we've ever stayed.

The location of the hotel is perfect - in the centre of the historic area. The breakfast was fantastic - wide selection and delicious, especially the fruit tarts! The room was a decent size and the bed very comfortable. It was quiet and it was great to be able to open the windows and activate blinds and shutters.

When booking the room I was told the hotel offered a free taxi from the airport. However, the online booking didn’t work and when I booked using the hotel’s recommended taxi company it turned out I was expected to pay for it. This was disappointing.

The hotel room was large and furnished in an antique style. There was a hot pot for making coffee or tea in the room and adjacent was a small private outdoor patio with a small table and a chaise. The parquet floors were very beautiful and there was a fireplace with an antique fire screen that had a small light inside which added to the ambiance of the room. The bathroom was large and was fitted with a large soaking tub all surfaces were finished in dark green marble. All the room and bathroom were very very clean and well maintained. Breakfast was sumptuous and all staff were very friendly. When in Bologna we will for sure stay at this hotel again. We were very pleased by the hotel and the location was excellent.

The bed was very firm and for a person with back issues next time we will request a mattress topper.

The staff are very attentive and nice. Breakfast was outstanding. The location is simply the best, steps from Piazza Magiore and downtown attractions..

This is not a "didn't like" comment but a slight warning. We stayed at the so-called annex, which is a set of two totally renovated apartments on the third floor of an small older(safe) building two streets over from the hotel, about 5 minutes walk, on an inside street. The apartment was huge, exquisitely appointed and decorated and had all the necessary accoutrements. It it is a good alternative if rooms are not available in the hotel itself(our situation) or if one travels with youngsters. The hotel lobby per se is small and there is no restaurant(breakfast is served in a lower level room-beautiful).

possibly the cleanest property I have ever been on. all the staff except one gentleman at the front desk was warm and inviting. the art inside the hotel was amazing. was within short walking distance to every where.

the one gentleman at the front desk (tall with glasses) was rude and lied to our group. some how there was a mix up on reservation for a two night stay. the second night they told us there was not enough rooms. but upon checking on booking.com there was multiple rooms available. I asked him if there was anything available for the night and he said no with a smirk. so I walked outside booked my room online and came back in to show him my reservation I had just booked after being told there was nothing available.

Lovely hotel with a perfect central location for walking around Bologna. The rooms were good and the bathroom had great facilities with a bath and shower and even a really good hairdryer. There was a very large screen TV but hardly any channels in English so we just caught up with the world news twice a day, not a problem though as we were out most of the time. The hotel breakfasts were absolutely amazing with everything you could possibly want. The staff were friendly and helpful. We caught a taxi right outside the airport. Door to door cost us 24 euros each way so don't be tempted to book "special offers" before you go as you will be charged around 42 euros each way or more!

A smell of drains sometimes in the bathroom. However it was a heatwave when we visited....38 degrees nearly all week, and it's an old building. It didn't affect the enjoyment of our stay.
