From a warm welcome on arrival, to excellent dinner and breakfasts, we loved our stay at The Crown. It feels like it has been there forever, welcoming locals and travellers into its atmospheric interior and pretty outdoor terrace. With loads to look at inside, this is not your stereotypical chain hotel, it has character and presence. The staff are lovely, well trained and helpful. In our Georgian coloured bedroom, our beds were most comfortable and the bathroom had everything one could need. They love dogs too! The hotel is situated just off the Market Place and close to the river walks. Plenty of free parking.

Like the style, traditional, historical character and space in the hotel. So refreshing, relaxing, with peaceful hidden corners, compared with the generic contemporary hotel. Felt at home. Great breakfasts!!!

This in no way spoilt our stay. We love the hotel and will definitely stay again and recommend to others, but, it was a hot, humid day and the sash window can only be opened a few inches. Yes there was a fan and yes we discovered that if we left the door on to the corridor open, there was a pleasant passage of air. Perhaps we should have asked for a sheet, instead of the duvet, but the second night was cooler and we had cooled down the room before bed.

Charming Georgian hotel with bedrooms in period decoration; substantial and well decorated bathroom also with period features with excellent shower. Local bar downstairs with typical Dorset beers and wines. Town centre location with parking on site. Outside patio for good weather. For lovers of period properties this is a great choice and undoubtedly comfortable.

Food in the restaurant was quite disappointing. The fish and chips chosen by my guest was very good. The lamb picked by me was miserable, critically tiny portions and poorly accompanied. The mixed vegetable side dish was simply more broccoli with some peas. Not expensive, but why not add a pound or two and do it properly. Very poor pub food indeed. Breakfast the following day was not bad, but why foist small streaky bacon portions on customers at £160.00 per night? I was left with the feeling that portion control had got out of hand.

The bedroom is generously sized and features beautiful wallpaper. The furnishings are lovely with thoughtful touches, and there are excellent tea-making facilities in the room. The staff is exceptional and provided us with a warm welcome upon arrival.

As I stepped onto the floor where the room was, I felt a draft. The musty smell that greeted me became even stronger when I opened the wardrobe. Due to this, I decided not to use the wardrobe at all. The old floorboards made a creaking noise every time I walked around the room. I was especially conscious of this when making a late-night trip to the bathroom. Additionally, the bed was unusually high.

Large room in a traditional style with quirky pictures and ornaments. Large shower with nice soaps and very large fluffy towels. The bed was extremely comfortable. The on site restaurant was top quality with great helpful staff

There was a strange musty smell in the room that did not disperse. We popped into a adjacent room and that was smell free, we did try to locate the source of the odour but could not pin it down, it may have been from under the floor boards as they had gaps in them in places. As we were only there for one night we put up with it, if our stay was longer I would have requested a room change.

The rooms and the food were great. We were served by a lady called Christine and a young blonde lad at dinner and another amazing lady at breakfast who were absolutely brilliant. Kind and professional.

We went into the bar to get a cocktail, asked the bar person if they would help us take the drinks through to which we were told "you will be ok" we looked at each other and said that's a no then..... Also we ordered coffees the next afternoon, the waitress bought us an extra coffee out. When we said we didnt order it the waitress was a little Kurt. It is a shame as with a little training with the bar staff it could be a perfect stay.

A very comfortable stay - parking was easy, staff were friendly and helpful, room was large and with comfortable bed, excellent breakfast. Could easily have been rated excellent overall, but although the evening meal was of good quality and well cooked, the portions could have been a lot more generous. I would use the hotel again on a bed and breakfast basis without question, but perhaps not the resturant if hungry and in need of a hearty meal.

Most things were very good - just need to provide more generous portions in the restaurant.

We broke down after a weekend of working and the cost to repair the tyre was extortionate, we could have been rescued but the car wouldn't have come home for 2 days so we decided to stay over and get a new tyre on Monday, the only place available was the crown Hotel, we were hungry and very tired after trying for almost 3 hours looking so we booked a double room, it was £110 for one night including breakfast, we were on the second floor which worried me because I use a Walking stick but they had a lift, we were in time for food and i had a delicious roast although the strips of sirloin were chewy and I couldn't eat it but the rest was scrumptious, hubby had the whitebait which he enjoyed, the room was amazing, beautiful, and everything you could need and we hadn't brought anything but the basics, the shower was big enough for 2 and had everything, the tea tray was really well suited for all tastes, I only drink decaf and sweetener and both were there, and proper cups and saucers , the bed was huge, would have fitted a family lol, and breakfast was pretty amazing, I would absolutely stay again

I have only 2 little whinges...the sirloin, as I said was really chewy and my fried eggs had what tasted like chopped chives on and it wasn't very pleasant and I wasn't asked if I wanted it, but loads of tea, coffee, cereals , fresh fruit, even honey in the comb

We like ‘proper’ hotels ie with adequate parking, breakfast included, comfortable lounge areas etc. This hotel met all these expectations. Very central so we could come and go easily during the day. Pleasant staff, nice breakfast etc. Also had decent food onsite and real ale, which is unusual in many hotels. Pleasant outside dining area too. We liked the fact that you could eat in any of the available spaces and at any time of the day.

Can’t think of anything.

Everything! We have been 3 times round the world and really rate this Hotel. The room was nicely decorated and furnished in style.Toiletries were of a very high standard. The bed very clean and comfortable. The food at all meals was just wonderful, well presented and tasty. The complimentary drinks voucher for the bar was much appreciated..Loved the ambience of the Hotel with a great mix of all ages in the clientele.Super to be in the heart of the town ,yet so near to the wildlife of the water meadows.

Just the TV control. We are simple folks and the digital device was just too complicated for us.
