We had a very big room, en suite, with a four poster bed and there was a small bedroom annex for our son which was very convenient. We had one of the 'evening specials' meal each which was fantastic value as you had a choice of main courses together with either a pint of beer, a 175ml glass of wine or a pint of coca cola, all for £10!! Or you could have an 8oz rump steak with chips, onion rings and peas with one of the already mentioned drinks for £15. My son and I opted for the steak and my wife had the home made chicken curry. All the food was freshly cooked and hot and the steaks were perfect. All unbelievable value. All these meals are available for non-residents as well. The breakfast was all freshly prepared in the morning and all three of us went for the full English which we thoroughly enjoyed. There is no parking with the hotel but it would be easy to drop someone off at the front door and then drive to the free parking behind the shops opposite the hotel, and it's less than a 200 yard walk back to the hotel. We stayed on a tuesday night and it was quite quiet.

Very easy to find the hotel it's just around the corner from the traffic lights, there isn't a car park but you can park in the CoOp car park overnight. The hotel its self is accessible through the pub. The hotel is very clean and the beds are very comfortable with complimentary toiletries and towels, tea/coffee and biscuits. The breakfast was very good (you won't leave hungry after it) and you can choose as much as you want from a pre arranged menu. We went with a toddler who was catered for but if you need a high chair take a travel one with you. The staff are wonderful and very friendly. It is attached to a pub but you can't hear anything from it.I would recommend this place from singles to families you won't be disappointed.

The only things that were a bit of a problem was the fact that we had to struggle with a toddler and luggage to the car park and we would have liked water in the room ( you have to get it from the bar) .

Very nice large twin room with view towards town & clock tower. Liked the hot power shower. Enjoyed a great breakfast in the charming front room & liked the 11am checkout. Good value for money top B&B. ps A lovely drive through the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean near to Monmouth, Wales.

Sorry the restaurant was closed for meals, perhaps it was the Sunday/bank holiday Monday. The popular bar with music / entertainment could be a bit noisy. No Private Parking but v cheap large pay and display nearby.

I stayed in The Angel hotel for a wedding I was going to at Clearwell Castle. It was recommended to me, and had very good reviews. I can honestly say, my stay at The Angel could not have been any more pleasant, even though there was a small issue, but not an issue at all. When I checked in and was taken to my enormous room complete with four poster bed, I found that the bathroom light didn’t work; room 101. The staff and manager tried to fix the light straight away but couldn’t; this really wasn’t an issue to me. But I was upgraded to room 102 which was really not necessary. It was a family room with a second bedroom and another amazing four poster bed. south facing, really lovely. Other nice things, the showers were super powerful, the beds were really comfortable, the rooms were delightful, all of the staff were super helpful and accommodating, and the breakfasts were plentiful and delicious, with top quality ingredients.

There’s no parking, but at weekends and Bank Holidays this isn’t an issue. So no complaints here from me either.

Breakfast and evening meals were very good with a menu that suited us and our grandchildren. The service was always good and very cheery. Our room was a good size, clean and well set up. The beds were comfortable and the linen and towels were spotless.

With rooms facing onto a town square and large casement windows leading on to a balcony you have to expect some noise. Bus stop outside and bin men do make a bit of a row in the mornings. No parking on the premises could cause a problem but there is a free car park a couple of minuets walk away. Oh, and the rooms carpets could do with a spring clean.

Lovely breakfast. I particularly liked the Kippers and poached eggs. The granary bread was also really nice. Bed was really comfortable with lovely linen. Much better than I was expecting for the price of the room. Atmosphere in the bar and the surrounding village was warm and friendly. The information bureau a few minutes away also helped us choose our walks so we kept it local. Beers in the Angel were excellent. The micro brewery next door was a bonus.

Breakfast was great - nothing to much trouble for lady at breakfast - got exactly what we requested and she was extremely polite and friendly. Rooms were great - spacious, clean and comfortable. Bathrooms very clean and well equipped. Great coffee and tea facilities. Nice biscuits. Great to have a fan provided in the room as well as a small heater in addition to the radiators.

Guy who checked us in shouldn’t be checking guests in as didn’t give a good first impression and wasn’t a welcoming vibe. Two lightbulbs in bedroom lamps didn’t work. The bedroom facing the street had a bright streetlight right outside which made it very difficult to get to / stay asleep. Black out curtains would be a perfect solution to an otherwise well- equipped and comfortable room.

Nice room, could probably do with a little refresh but it was very comfortable, clean and warm. We were in room 103 which is at the front and we didn’t hear any noise from outside, this was also rugby international weekend. Lovely evening meal and breakfast the following morning and the found the staff very attentive and friendly. The locals in the pub, although maybe a little worse for wear, couldn’t have been more friendly

Overall very pleased considering it was a small hotel and we expected limitations. It gave us everything we needed with good food and polite, helpful staff. The room with en suite was good and again had all we needed. If I had to be really critical then being an oldish building a lick of paint here and there could improve the look but for us this was not an issue. Would use again and was value for money.

Considering what you were getting for your money to make it more luxurious would require money and increased prices. This was a good budget hotel and there was nothing that we didn't like compared to what we expected.

The breakfast was excellent, so plentiful we reduced parts each day we stayed, but excellent in every way. The room was comfortable and clean. A great location for both the Forest of Dean abd the Wye Valley

Well nothing.. We loved the 'take you as you find us approach'which meant the bar was full of lively, friendly locals, regulars who showed life in the town as it is. No airs and graces but a friendly, quality value for money to have a great stay
