The Landlady/Manager was very welcoming on arrival and very attentive she was so lovely can't praise her enough (sadly we didn't catch her name) as we were literally diving back out to a wedding reception! But she served us breakfast then in the morning and couldn't do enough for us, she was a "sweetie" as she called us, the Breakfast was lovely too! The room was clean and comfortable all in all a lovely quaint place to stay!

It is an old building so there was no air con and so was a little hot at night but we did happen to stay on the hottest day we've had for September, so that was the only niggle!

Excellent breakfast great evening menu . Just a pity Kitchen was closed early in the week Monday Tuesday.

Young girl wàs anxious to close the Bar early one night at around 10pm . The atmosphere was good at the time and a few residents were enjoying a drink and good banter. Her eagerness to close and get home was unprofessional and discourteous to Patrons enjoying a sociable beverage. Possibly her inexperience showed up . Otherwise all other Bar Staff a Girl and a Guy were excellent and very friendly . The breakfast was too class.

Customer Service - the same lady who checked us in looked after us during our stay and was lovely. (Grace?) was friendly and gave us a warm and genuine welcome and goodbye, and made sure we had everything we needed. This stay was a room over a pub - however the service we received was better than what we’ve experienced in some of our higher end stays. Great breakfast, fab drink prices and it was walking distance to the steam railway where we were booked for a murder mystery. All 6 of us were very happy with the service we received thanks to the lovely lady that was working there, she is a credit to your hotel/pub and wouldn’t hesitate in coming back.

Breakfast was excellent, the room was comfortable and very clean. Very helpful and friendly staff. Wonderful park, and large lake, a short walk away, with lots of water-fowl to spot. Hotel is right in the middle of the high street, which was a little tricky, when we visited from Bristol, because of closures one-way due to road works. Not the venues fault in any way, but we did get a little flummoxed finding the detour via the bypass. Parking available at back of building, and loved the amusing disembodied 'heads' in the window of an adjoining business!

We were expecting the room to be serviced daily, but hadn't been informed on arrival that this needs to be requested if we required it. No great shakes, but worth mentioning here.

The staff were attentive and couldn't have been more welcoming. The food was delicious, especially the evening meal. I had told them on booking that I am vegan, there were 3 choices each of starter, main course and dessert, which were not the usual run of the mill offerings, made possible as I had given advance warning. I really did appreciate the effort made to accommodate my requirements.

I only gave an overall score of 8 because of the noise level caused by other guests opening and closing bedroom/bathroom doors and talking loudly! It's often a problem with hotel rooms and inconsiderate guests! No fault of the staff/owners.

Welcoming, extremely helpful & supportive staff. Comfy bed, ensuite bathroom, hot drink making facilities. Good breakfast with helpful staff.

Tiny TV difficult to watch from bed. Some mould in the shower. I think (even though I didn't have children with me but I have grandchildren & was concerned that if they were with me) that there should be child-proof latches on the windows, particularly in the bathroom where there is a deep window sill which a child would love to sit on.

The location was ideal for exploring the Forest of Dean area. Our room was comfortable and clean with an exceptionally large bed. The staff were all friendly and helpful.. What a fabulous breakfast, cooked to order using local ingredients. There are plenty of places within walking distance, to eat out in the evenings including the Swan itself. We highly recommend Amigos and Saffron Balti. We couldn't have asked for a better few days break.

The Hotel was easy to find. The room had the facilities required for an overnight stay and was well prepared. It was nice to have a bathroom that had an extractor fan that worked! Most hotel’s don’t! The staff were very helpful and the breakfast was excellent. Would use this hotel again.

The car park was a little crowded as it was shared with other businesses. Having travelled for a couple of hours to get to the hotel, I was looking to have something to eat before I ventured out for my evening social event, so was looking to book a table in the restaurant. I was advised that the restaurant was not open so I was not able to get the meal that I was anticipating I would be able to have. Considering it was a Saturday I was a little disappointed. Instead of having a nice meal in the hotel I had to venture out into Lydney to find that a limited number of eating outlets we’re open which resulted in me getting a baguette from Gregg’s!

Pleasant Helpful Staff. Excellent breakfast! Room was fine, Shower in room was fine also. Double glazed opening window was good. Food is very good (Evening meal and Breakfast) and good value. It is a Pleasant Place (not posh) in a down to earth town. Bar Lady was able to multi task and do different roles as staff shortages (Bus service failures) left her running all over to cope with the work load. She coped and got through it whilst asking for our patience and understanding. So slight delays but we were happy, she put in a lot of effort.

It is on a busy road junction, but has double glazing. We knew that anyway so not so bad, A room at the back might be better.? Staff were short on numbers so juggling many jobs. (problem with local buses cancelling services without warning, so some staff were unable to get to work when needed.) Remaining staff a bit run ragged but coped and got the job done. No ones fault except absent local Bus that delayed staff getting to work.

The hotel was easy to find, had parking and was in a central location. The room was clean, warm and beds were very comfortable. It had its own washbasin with a shower and toilet opposite. Breakfast was excellent with a vegan option and was plentiful . We also had an evening meal and drinks and again the meals were excellent and plentiful. I would definitely recommend the Swan.

The only negative thing was that the road outside got very noisy in the morning but was quiet during the night. The car park could do with a few potholes being repaired.
