Fantastic setting, lovely house with pleasant rooms and fantastic history! The chef at breakfast was fantastic, very accommodating for us.

We would have preferred a room where the bathroom was located inside it, instead we had The room that had a separate bathroom across the landing. Perhaps the booking.com could inform customers of this when selecting a room type

The breakfast was lovely and it was hot which was a bonus because sometimes you go to these places and the breakfasts are only luke warm. The House was absolutely beautiful and the staff where lovely.

We where in the room with the four poster bed and although it was a beautiful room and had a chaise lounge , it was too low for my wife to get onto because she has mobility issues and there was no chair in the room which would have come in extremely handy for her, we had to borrow the chair on the landing so she had something comfortable to sit on. The mattress on the bed was really hard which interrupted our sleep through the night, it was hard to get a good nights sleep. The mattress is personal taste because in all honesty, it might suit other guests.

Great location for visiting the Borders. Excellent breakfast in lovely dining room. The lounge and bar area were well furnished and had good views over the garden. Ample parking. David and Sue took care of our needs and were caring hosts. The history of the house was interesting as it once was a Barnardo's Home for children and there was an album in the lounge showing pictures of the period. When we booked there was only one room available, Lodge One. The two lodges are very new and well equipped but on any future visit would prefer a bedroom within the main house with a garden view. All in all served our purposes very well. Would stay again in the future if we were to visit this part of Scotland.

The property is gorgeous, and off the main road, so surrounded by a tranquil garden. The breakfast is hearty and plentiful, but the evening offering is limited, so if staying for a length of time you would have to drive/walk in to Hawick to eat in the evenings. The bedrooms are spacious - there aren't any wardrobes, which is strange, so a running rail is in the room, which looks a little unsightly, but functional. The bar and communal front rooms are lovely, and the owners are more than amenable - they are extremely accommodating and helpful.

No wardrobe (minor quibble) Limited evening meal option (although this is communicated on booking - so no surprise)

Perfect location as It was just a stroll away from town centre. Hotel was in a nice quiet setting with beautiful grounds

The room we were in was nice and clean but the one curtain they had up was hard to pull across to close. During the night my husband found it difficult to sleep as it sounded like a continuous drip but we couldn’t find out where the noise was coming from. No one on reception to report this too and no phone in room to speak to anyone. Staff were nice and friendly but at breakfast if you didn’t ask for fruit juice or toast then it wasn’t served to you. All in all it was a lovely hotel but I’d maybe ask to stay in a different room if I were to stay again.

Very peaceful, lovely very well kept building , easy parking with plenty of room , excellent shower and en-suite, good tv choices, comfy bed , fantastic service for breakfast with kippers being available for an extra £2.50 , lovely swift polite staff especially Ruby , thank you

Nothing really , except that the best option for evening food was to go into Hawick town , which was fine as We found the Wetherspoons and had a lovely evening, two meals , two drinks £21.50 , perfect thank you.

Excellent breakfast. Nice location. Very high quality rooms and bathrooms. Perfect staff. Our dog was also welcomed as a guest, and unlike some other dog-friendly hotels, the cleanliness was still spotless. The property itself was a wonderful high-ceiling Victorian mansion with some beautiful features. Parking was super easy, right outside on the hotel property/gardens.

For the location the price was a very high for us. But it is a truly excellent small hotel.

On arrival we were warmly greeted, check in was quick and efficient. The property was well kept and very clean. We had a large room with private bathroom (not en-suite) but just a step across the hall, fitted with a simplex lock, so no problem there. Tea, coffee and bottled water were available and the bed was very comfortable. We found everything to be relaxing and comfortable. There is a bar downstairs that does bar meals if you don't want to venture into town. Excellent choice at breakfast, which was tasty. WiFi no problems and easy to park in front of the property. Taxis are easy to get hold of and not expensive. A relaxing short stay in Hawick at the Balcary House Hotel, thank you.

The bed was so comfortable. Everything was clean and well maintained. the hotel is set back from the road which makes it very peaceful. The breakfast was very good with quality ingredients, not greasy and the scrambled eggs were outstanding! we couldn’t fault it. The coffee was good too.

No wardrobe in our room. Although is states there are toiletries there was no shampoo. The towels are quite small. The shower is noisy (electric shower). Wifi password was not displayed in the room.

Great location! Positioned at the end of town so handy for nights out, shopping etc but set back from the main road and surrounded by large gardens so it felt more secluded. Rooms were good. We both had a great night's sleep in the large comfortable bed. No disturbance from other guests. The room has a dressing table with a hairdryer, small selection of tea, coffee and biscuits, a kettle, large mugs and highball glasses and a television equipped with Netflix as well as terrestrial TV channels. There's a large mirror at waist height on the wall and hanging rails for clothes (although we lived out the suitcase as we were only staying overnight). There's no iron in the room however one was delivered instantly on request which we appreciated as we were in a rush to attend a wedding and were running late. In the hallway outside our room there was a large floor standing mirror. Breakfast was lovely. Two full cooked breakfasts, a round of toast and tea/coffee quickly served to order by friendly waiting staff who were at the time also attending to 7 other guests at 3 additional tables. There's also a small breakfast bar with chilled fresh fruit juices and milk, various cereals and toppings that are available as selfe serve.

The electric shower in our room was really quite noisy. It sounded like the motor is struggling - perhaps it's air locked or its drawing water through kinked/obstructed pipes. I switched it off after only a minute. Definitely needs looked at. The grouting / sealant near the shower tray could do with being redone too as it's looking a bit tired. We were only staying one night so the shower wasn't too much of an issue for us on this occasion. Had we been in the area longer to do some walking (as we plan to do in the future) it would not have been ideal. It hasn't put us off however and we would stay again should the shower get looked at.
