Traquair Arms Hotel

The size of the the room was a pleasant surprise. All the staff that I encountered were obviously very happy to be working in the hotel and the interaction between staff members created a positive and friendly attitude. That included, housekeeping, bar & serving staff. The roast dinner that I had was excellent. It was also refreshing to have good wi-fi in the room. As a cyclist the location was perfect, especially with a bike shop in the car park!

The location is awesome. The beds so comfortable. Love the large TV.

It needs cleaning better, items in kitchen need checking as we had three sieves but no jugs. no sissors etc.. Sofas could be more comfortable. Next door was really noisy and as we shared the front door they kept banging it and leaving there internal door open all day..

Lovely welcome at reception with very friendly staff and excellent food both dinner and breakfast. It's a popular location for cyclists and walkers and a busy little town. We have stayed before when walking the Southern Upland Way.

The top floor rooms are basic but clean and comfortable. The walls however are thin and we had loud neighbours in the room next door which even penetrated the earplugs. Not much the proprietor can do about inconsiderate people, so not a criticism just an observation.

Last minute booking, very accommodating, staff very friendly, lovely room , sorted us a table for dinner which was lovely. Included a very well prepared breakfast.

Only very minor personel choice, I found the room too hot and even with the window open it didn't help. The TV didn't seem to be working, but we didn't report so couldn't comment on whether it would have been sorted.

Full Scottish breakfast was excellent, Good choices well cooked and hot. Staff were helpful and pleasant. The room was small but adequate for one, with tea making facilities that were welcome.

The car park was small, awkward and full when I arrived. Street parking was also very congested. The room was admittedly small but the TV was very small, they aren't very costly nowadays so they should splash out on 22" screens!

I had a fantastic stay here recently for one of the tweedlove mountain bike enduros, this was such a welcoming place from the moment I arrived. The room was amazing- after 3 cracking nights camping at the superb Tweedside Caravan Park down the road, I was so happy to see a bath in the room I booked to ease muscle pain in my back after 3 nights in a tent. I was straight over the road to the co-op for some radox! I was lucky to bag a great parking spot . The food was just lovely, and it gets busy! After my race practice day, they werent taking anymore food orders because it was so rammed! (It was a sunny saturday!!) so I went back to the Tweedside Caravan Park where my friends had a bbq on. And the brilliant staff at the Traquair took a late food order off me a few hours later, just before the 9pm food cut off. The staff are superb here, there is a young team that really run the place well. They dont get flustered, despite the obvious challenges of busyness, idiot customers, ridiculous facemask mandates etc. I will definitely be staying here again next year!

We were leaving early and a member of staff was able to offer us a packed lunch instead. It was unexpected and was pretty decent 👍. The guy who met us at reception seemed to be totally on the ball, sorted us out for dinner and offered the lunches in lieu of the breakfast.

Excellent cottage that is well equipped, clean and tidy. Dog friendly too! Great staff who were so helpful, great location, lovely food being served and only a short walk to the village and bike ride to the uplifts for a brilliant day mountain biking… not me for biking, i’ll leave that to the other half.

Nothing at all… though would recommend that soap in upstairs loo and hand towels were provided in addition to the bath sheets.

We stayed in a twin room which was great for the two of us for one night. The beds were lovely and comfy and the room was clean and tidy. Tea and coffee facilities in the room. The parking is at the side of the hotel and was fine for the motorbikes, the manager did offer us the opportunity to move them around the back where the holiday cottages were which is completely out of sight and would have been secure but we opted to go to the bar instead. The holiday cottages were beautiful and very highly specced inside. I would definitely consider staying in one if we ever return. The food was very nice and highly recommended.

The bathroom in the room was tiny, the toilet was very low and cramped up against the wall and the shower tray was almost impossible for me to get in. I'm 6ft3 and a big chap as an ex-rugby player but even my smaller friend struggled to get in the shower.

Great small hotel in a good location, perfect for walking or cycling. Room was large, light, and airy, with a good sized bathroom and bath. Food (breakfast / dinner) was tasty, with a good choice. Bar area was cosy with a good selection of drinks including 3 local cask ales. Weather was sunny and warm, which made it very pleasant to sit outside for an afternoon or pre-dinner drink. Hotel welcomes walkers and cyclists, and has a secure bike storage shed.

Restaurant service was a little on the slow side, although food was freshly cooked.
