The double room was fresh and clean upon arrival. With unseasonably hot weather, we were glad that fans were available for each room upon request. The rooms were cozy and nicely decorated. The staff were courteous and the breakfast was very good. The private, off-street parking was accessible and spacious. There are a variety of restaurants in Selkirk from which to choose, as well as numerous attractions within easy driving distance.

The single room had a bad smell upon arrival and needed the carpets vacuumed. The sink in the single (202) was loose on the wall and the toilet seat in the double (201) was loose, all easy fixes. There were several cobwebs in the corners of the ceilings. We ushered a small spider outside.

The breakfast was basic, that did contain a cooked vegetarian option. The staff were very friendly. The formerly historic hotel was positioned centrally for all local amenities. The room was comfortable, well furnished and the ensuite bathroom, compact with a walk in shower. There was parking available on site. The hotel offers bed and breakfast only. All rooms are upstairs. There are plenty of places to eat within the town of Selkirk nearby.

There was slight traffic noise, mid evening then quiet later on, so a room at the rear of the building would not have been subject to traffic noise. It would have been nice to have had the choice of fruit to eat at breakfast, as current dietary advice tells us.

Location was great and in perfect walking distance for restaurants and food outlets. Number One being literally next door is amazing - go try it!

I know it's an old property and you should expect some creaking but the flooring right outside my room door was noisy and I was woken up an number of times with other guests either returning or leaving. Again something that can't be changed there is a street lamp literally outside the bedroom window. It might be helpful to have a black out blind which can be lowered in the room I was in.

Everything was great. The breakfast was the best we had in Scotland - and I'm not just saying that! This is a fabulous clean and bright establishment in a great location with staff who just want to delight their customers.

It would have been nice to have a bar that was open, but you can bring your own drinks etc and use the large comfortable lounge area. And it you must go to the pub, it is less than 2 minutes walk away.

Oliver was perfect & ticked all the boxes that a host should & more. Perfectly situated in the town centre, a truly, wonderful breakfast. The room was brilliant with a separate area and a writing desk. Although there was some minor renovations going on, there was still a separate area with tables & chairs that we we could bring in our own food & alcohol & sit at & Oliver let us know we could use it as long as we wanted. There was also something I hardly ever see in any Hotels or B&B that I’ve stayed in & it’s simply a proper sized mug for the coffee & tea facilities.

Fascinating stay in an historic, listed building. Family owned and staffed ... and it showed. Nothing was too much trouble. Fabulous food well cooked and presented. We were so glad we booked!

We liked everything, thank you. However we were puzzled by the shabby appearance of an adjoining building which looked like part of the hotel. This turned out to be "next door" and hotel owners said they were dissapointed and frustrated because some people seemed to think that it refelected badly. Very unfair and narrow-minded people, it seems.

Room had been recently refurbished and was very comfortable. Good shower room and toiletries Good amount of tea and coffee making items Breakfast was excellent, individually cooked to order and of a high standard.

Checking in, hadn’t realised that no one was at the property before 4.30 for checking in. We arrived at 4 pm and because the exterior of the hotel was so run down we thought it was closed! As it was a nice afternoon we walked around Selkirk for half an hour. If it had been raining we would have been tempted to find somewhere else.

Location. Selkirk is a lovely place to stay. The hotel is old but looked after. Family run and although there’s no restaurant they do allow guests to bring food in from the local takeaways (the chippy is great, as is the Taste of Spice). Room was spacious and clean. Smart tv meant we could watch netflix. Staff were friendly and attentive.

I travel frequently and stay in a huge assortment of properties. While this hotel is still (quite rightly) exercising an abundance of caution regarding COVID-19 precautions it is not open to then general public and therefore the front desk isn't available other than for check-in/check out, so the place does tend to look closed at first sight. However, the interior, the welcome, the unpretentious hearty food and the service from the staff couldn't be better.

Given the ravages of COVID-19 it is what it is - everything was perfectly fine, IMHO. I'll be back to experience the hotel post-COVID (and I'm looking forward to that)

This hotel was real value for money. Our room was large and well furnished, and the shower room was adequate. The breakfast was excellent and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We travelled by public transport and the bus stops were only yards from the hotel. Excellent stay.

The room was quite airless but that was more about the weather than anything else. It was a bit odd to have to lock the front door on our way out and have to carry the large room key around with us.
