The Auld cross keys in Denholm is in a lovely location. It's in a quiet village away from all the hustle and bustle of life. The style of the public house is much in line with the local atmosphere. I had spent the day walking, I was able to wash my dirty clothes and then put them in the drying room. They were dry before bed time. I had a sirloin steak for dinner which was cooked to perfection, this was followed by a cheese board, which again was perfect. I had a comfortable night in bed. In the morning I had a Scottish breakfast. Best tasting haggis ever. All in all this was a great stay, a good experience all round. The staff were friendly and the price was right

Visited this hotel for 5 nights, booked in for bed & breakfast. Lovely accommodation set in a beautiful little village. Staff were always attentive, nothing was too much bother. Owners Karen & Dave treated the staff well, I witnessed this on one particularly busy day. Staff always had a smile for you, asking if you need anything, fast and efficient service. I felt very looked after. Everyone from the domestic staff up to the management staff were fantastic 👌 All tips are equally shared. Absolutely fantastic food, brilliant portions, can't fault anything I ate while I was there. 2 menu's, indoor & beer garden menu. Both are great. "They don't serve fast food, they serve food as fast as they can". Great beer garden for the sunny days, gets the sunshine all day & into the evening. Twin room - I was in an attic room, peaceful and quiet with views of the hillsides. Cleaned & tidied every day. They've made great use of a smaller space. Very, very busy, i'd recommend booking a table if you're if you're just wanting to eat in the restaurant. I loved my stay so much, I didnt want to leave so I booked for next year before I left!! I came home feeling relaxed and refreshed.

Tricky stairs to my attic room, but by the 2nd day I'd managed them (I have a "dodgy" leg, which I hadn't told them about) but I'm sure if I did they would have sorted something else for me before my arrival.

We had a great welcome here. There was a bar with a pool table for people who enjoy a pub feel with friendly locals, there's a nice restaurant with food to die for! Absolutely top notch, we stayed 4 night, had something different off the menu every night, & didn't get a bad meal once. Credit to the way this pub was run, landlord, landlady, chef's & staff, excellent.

Nothing, we stayed in the attic room, with the private bathroom down a few steps from the bedroom. It would be a bit inconvenient if you get up regularly in the night, but for us, it wasn't a problem. Great room, very clean and tidy.

What we really liked was the fact that the staff were very welcoming and ready to deal with any request. The room was lovely and the bed enormous. The food was really good. It was a very busy restaurant and the staff were amazing. It was clear that management knew what they were doing and had the energy and enthusiasm to cater for all guests. We loved the fact that their menu reflected the ethnicity of some of the staff and were amazed at the energy and promptness of the Japanese server who was amazing. In the morning the breakfast server was really attentive and efficient.

well I would have liked a bigger ensuite but it still was functional and effective.

Great location, opposite a green in town centre. Although the road can be a bit busy there is a huge, south facing, beer garden at the back. Very friendly owner & staff. Good range of food on the menu and the fish & chips are superb.

Unfortunately I got the only room that is not en-suite but it did have a very large, private bathroom with bath & shower down a short flight of stairs, not a problem for me but if you need the bathroom multiple times during the night it could be an issue. No easy access to the carpark if the hotel isn't open yet, I left at 5am andhad to walk around the block to get to the carpark, again not a problem for me but could be for others.

Breakfast very good plenty of choice. Lovely evening meal menu, food individually prepared so a little wait but that was stated on the board. Dog friendly and made your dog feel welcome too.

My room was lovely. spacious and clean but it was very warm without the heating on so I opened the windows but there were some kind of large fans coming up from the ground floor, these were very noisy so had to close the windows and found it a little difficult to sleep but I was only there for one night.

We have now returned to Australia but stayed at the Auld Cross Keys Inn at the beginning of September as we commenced of our trip around Scotland. The Inn and the people and township of Denholm did not disappoint just as was the case six years previously and we were determined on this visit to find that little town we liked so much then. Denhom is a lovely town and the Inn is representative of that - the staff and facilities were excellent and we were made most welcome and were well looked after. I would recommend a visit to all, it will not let you down. Thank you to all at the Auld Cross Keys Inn. We wish you well and if we return at some time to Scotland we will most certainly stay with you again. Best wishes from Helen and Ninian, Humbug Scrub, South Australia

The food was good, breakfast was excellent the first day.

Breakfast was burnt the second day. We were accused of our dogs scratching the carpet and were asked to pay for the replacement of a cheap carpet with a very small amount of damage with an expensive replacement at over £300. We had specifically requested a dog friendly room and were then asked to pay a supplement for the dogs but there was no catering for the dogs at all , not even a water bowl in the room. I refused to pay for a new carpet as I do not accept that my dogs caused it as we stay away frequently and they have never scratched or damaged anything any where else and however it was caused it didn’t really require replacement. It was so relatively minor that I couldn’t say that it wasn’t there when we checked in. It left a sour taste to what was overall a pleasing stay.

Perfect week long stop for a group of 4 riding in stunning area. Hour drive to Holy Island to do Northumberland coast, 55 mins to fantastic MTB centre at Glentress, 50 mins drive to tour round Kielder Water. Staff were so friendly we were on first name terms in days. They helped us find a spare bike due to mechanical issue and provided great advice to Kayak on Megget reservoir. Great quality home cooking with varied menu from which we enjoyed all the starters, mains and puddings! So good we didn't go anywhere else. Separate pub, great ales.

Just an excellent place to stay. The rooms are very comfortable and modern. The food is excellent and there is a huge breakfast available. Friendly bar and staff. The Kirkstall beer is a really good pint. Good value if you consider what is available in the hotel. Local bus stop right outside.

The room could benefit with a fan in the hot weather but that is being picky. Difficult to be critical as it is such a good place to stay. Remember it is a pub too so there is some, not much, noise from the bar. I had the Tweed room directly above and it was not much of an issue to be fair.
