The room was fine and clean. The reception and various area were very nicely decorated. We ate in the bar - the stack burgers were great!! The receptionist that evening was excellent, she was also covering the bar for a whole due to staff illness. She was so helpful! The breakfast was also very good, maybe just a tad too early (7-9.30am on a sunday = no lie in!?)

The whole place need a bit of TLC. Decor around the hotel didnt maych that of the bar and reception. Peeling wallpaper in the halls, pool floats covering radiator bars etc.

Breakfast was excellent... good food, good selection well cooked and presented and as much as you wished to eat!

Superior' live up to live up to to the label didn't quite live up to 'superior' label. The room was comfortable, central heating radiator was impossible to understand how to operate. The controls for the heated towel rail were 10'' from the floor so down on knees to operate...not good for elderly people and the toilet was nearly impossible to use unless you were a contortionist! Sitting on the pedestal. wash hand basin so near that you could use the basin whilst sitting on the loo! and trust me, cleaning your bottom was soooo difficult. Whoever was responsible for the toilet lay-out obviously never tried it!! The toilet itself was very clearly recently refurbished as was the complete room. What a shame that something so simple should spoil the stay

The waverley was central to the whole border area, surrounded by beautiful scenery on the banks of the river Tweed and beautiful local villages, although we where comuting mostly to Edinburgh it was a perfect spot, and the staff where amazingly friendly and professional, there was no fuss checking in or out and always a staff member in hand when needing assistance. Excellent nights sleep, comfy and cosy and good all round facilities

A musty odour thought the hotel and in the rooms. The hotel could do with a small freshen up in room and small repairs like grouting on the tiles, sealing around the bath and prefixing of toilet holder on the wall.

Staff lovely, grounds gorgeous, location great for where we needed to be. Evening meal well presented and tasty, fantastic quality breakfast. Plenty parking, fast service.

Hotel a little run down in areas decor wise but I think that's due to lack of business and costs during lockdown..the bar was limited on soft drinks as vendor was broken and no alternatives brought in, found small spot of blood on underside of duvet but luckily too warm for quilt so just removed it as was late and didn't want to get dressed to go back to the reception or call them to come to room as we had a dog with us and didn't want him to disturb guests late at night with a stranger coming to the room.. I'm sure if we had reported they would have sorted but on white bedding it should have been spotted by house keeping.

We were traveling with our dog. As I checked us in, the staff said directly that they love to have pets at the hotel and we are free to take her with us to the bar/lounge. There would be no problem if she wanted to sleep with us in the bed. They had a "dog bar" at the entrance and dog-treats - but asked if feeding her would be okay. The surrounding ground was great for an evening walk. The Bar/Lounge was cozy. And the breakfast great.

That we couldn't stay longer, but we had other plans. I hope the next time will be longer and we can discover more from the area, too.

Hotel is in a lovely location & staff very friendly. Our room was an ok size though a little small for a superior double as compared to the website pics. A nice bathroom with a lovely view of the large gardens. Plenty of sockets in the bedroom with usb sockets. The room looked like it had had a refurb. The pizza available to order from the bar was very nice & available until 10

I'm afraid the layout of the large dining room made it look like a canteen, with tables in rows & very close to one another, so much so we chose not to dine there at all - purely because of the total lack of atmosphere. Not something that would particularly be in any hotel description but the majority of the guests seemed to be more of the older generation, maybe on a coach tour holiday, so we felt a little out of place in the bar ! But it didn't spoil our weekend! Overpriced maybe for the room size as had booked for a superior double - not entirely sure that was what I got having looked at the website pics again - yes we had a small round table with 2 chairs but wasn't much of a gap between the table & the bed even though the table wad hard against the wall!

The food was exceptionally good. We had dinner and breakfast. The staff were very pleasant, friendly and efficient. Tables were allocated so no problems taking some one else's place and they were cleared immediately so you did not have dirty plates etc hanging about.

I would have to be pushed hard to find something I didn’t like as it was as expected for price. I was not too happy about receiving message to pre-book parking as it was limited and may have to park in public car park. When I tried to pre-book I was informed it was not possible and eventually told information I received was out of date and written information had not caught up with new regulations that pre-booking not available.

The hotel is good value. The staff are exceptional, they are very helpful and make you feel very welcome whilst still having a professional manner. The room are spacious and clean. Great location

The food lets the hotel down. Whilst the breakfast and restaurant staff are lovely, the quality and quantity of the food is poor. An example of this is the cooked breakfast. This consisted of two pieces of bacon, one sausage, an egg, a bowl of beans and a half tomato - there were no mushrooms, no black pudding no haggis etc. I would prefer to pay more and have a good quality breakfast. During my regular visit to Scotland the quality of the breakfast has always been high so I was disappointed. This would not put me off staying as over I think the hotel is good but I would stay on a room only basis next time

The receptionist was lovely and check in was easy. The hotel itself is very old and could do with some work but the room was comfy enough. If you are on the 3rd floor the hot water takes forever to come through. The breakfast was very good. Plentiful with lots to choose from. Dinner was nice but very small serves.

Having to wait so long for the hot water to come through. We contacted reception and were advised that you have to turn on the basin and the shower taps and let them run for about 5 minutes. Such a waste of water. The size of the meals at dinner were very small but everything else was fine
