Macdonald Cardrona Hotel, Golf & Spa

This place is beautiful 😍 Seaneray is outstanding Stunning drive We got a complementary upgrade room with a bottle of prosecco on ice waiting for us to help celebrate our Anniversary which was a beautiful touch. Our room was so clean & opened out to the golf course. Room had coffee machine & tea facilities, an iron & iron board, & hair dryer in room, always a bonus. Had total blackout curtains which I love. The staff where so helpful & nothing was a bother for them. We where given 2 glasses of presecco at our dinner along with a gorgeous desert plate. We used the swimming pool on the 1st day & was given robes & slippers the place was spotless. Would definitely visit again.

We didn't really enjoy the breakfast abit over done & dry, but the staff where all so helpful. Also we booked db&b and only used £37 of our £60 allowance on 2 mains and its the only place not to allow you to have your drinks off your allowance.

Was absolutely amazing value for money (weekday booking so was cheaper) and our room was lovely, spacious and comfortable. We read some of the non-favourable reviews (was a good laugh at how ridiculous some were) and didn't experience any issues during our stay. Only stayed one night as we were experiencing Peebles during the fantastic Scottish weather and the room was nicely cooled during the hear wave season and got to use the swimming and sauna facilities in the morning followed by breakfast (amazing view of the golfcourse and very courteous staff) before checking out.

We didn't have the gorgeous window view of the golf course in our room....but I'm just nitpicking!

Breakfast! £18 for a continental breakfast is ridiculous.... you can have a burger in the restaurant for cheaper! And £24 for a cooked breakfast!!??? Extortionate when I paid £32 for venison in the restaurant, how can you justify that price for the breakfast? Menu is also confusing. Porridge was awful, watery & lumpy. I thought Scotts could make porridge! No bread rolls, minimal choice of everything. If you want a latte or cappuccino you have to pay £4 extra!!!! REALLY??? Some of the other dishes (eggs benedict, mashed avocado etc) also carry a £5 supplement! Sorry but you are sorely outdone by a Premier for your breakfast! This was the only thing that really lets the place down. The spa facilities were nice but maybe a little shabby in areas.

The bar staff were amazing I stayed up late drinking which I normally never do when I travel alone My father was born on Cardrona farm in 1933 and his ashes were scattered in the river just before the hotel was built , your barman and one of the chefs did a toast to him which I was very touched by , it made my stay so special The young barman was lovely and we talked about cocktails and whiskey , he was very knowledgeable for his age and made me feel super welcome I wish I could remember their names

The spa was a bit underwhelming but I had a nice swim and a lovely sauna

We had a nice room, chosen for the dogs to give easy access to the outside through the sliding doors and straight outside. Nice big room, very clean with a great comfortable bed and good wifi. I considered the stay to be quite expensive but having stayed with McDonalds before we knew what to expect and the staff couldn't really have been more helpful. The menu for the evening meal was not extensive but our choice was very nice and the breakfast was good as well and I even able to get an early breakfast as I had an early tee time for golf. The golf course was in great condition a really nice lay out and quite long. The dogs really enjoyed the wide open spaces down by the river when out for walkies!!

Other than as previously stated the overall cost for the stay, no complaints

We really enjoyed the hotel. Check-in was made easy by the efficient staff and when we got to our room it was clean, warm and everything worked. The bed was big and comfy. The room had black-out curtains so no annoying bright daylight wakened us in the morning. We chose to have our food in the bar / lounge and it was excellent and away from the main doors. The gym & pool facilities were great. I was even tempted into the pool and the changing rooms were better than the many hotels we have been to.

The only thing we did not like was when the main doors opened there was nothing to stop the cold air blowing into the main lounge. We knew the hotel was dog friendly and that was ok, but i don't think dogs should be allowed to lie on the armchairs. Especially when the lounge was getting busy and customers were finding it difficult to get a seat.

Peaceful quiet surroundings . Very warm welcome on arrival and all staff were very friendly . Room was very comfortable and clean and bedding and towels very clean too . Good selection at breakfast and enjoyed the cooked breakfast . We also had a very nice meal in the hotel on one of the nights we stayed .

My only criticism is that the staff in the dining room at breakfast and dinner seemed a bit mixed up with the orders and who was serving what table . They were however all very friendly and nothing was too much bother .

We've stayed here 3 times in the last 6 months, all times its been excellent. We've been twice as boys were biking and once with family for a relaxing break. Accessible room was brilliant for my father in law, plenty of room to get wheelchair in, toilet rails and a shower chair and there is also an alarm should this be required. There was a reason for one of our party to use the alarm cord and Jade from reception acted with such care and discretion. I really can't thank her enough. The only thing letting the hotel down is the evening food, its a hit or miss but you do have the option of going out for food. On the whole, I'd say the hotel is excellent value, beautiful location, excellent rooms and well worth a visit.

Food in restaurant wasn't what I'd expected. Breakfast however is amazing as is children's choice.

We both enjoyed the difference in scenery away break, location, hospitality, food, drink, service was to an excellent standard. My facial in the Elemis spa sanctuary were to of a high standard and the hotel has excellent swimming, gym facilities etc. The swimming pool is open until 10pm which is great if you want an evening swim. Had an upgrade to a junior suite which I was quite shocked about instead of the king sized room on booking.com.

Prices are way too expensive. Big crack in the bottom of the patio door meant there was a big draft coming through into the room. There could be a shower mat in the bathroom, as can be slippery getting in and out of the shower. As we were travelling by bus, bus stops to the main road into Cardrona either going to peebles onto Edinburgh or back into Galashiels are not clearly visible and could be clearer. You would need to travel by car to get to the hotel but offers good bus service. Overall enjoyable break for the both of us.

Efficient service in dining room and excellent evening meals. A special mention to Ben who stayed way after he should of finished work to serve late arrivals at the bar.

There were no support staff to take over after 10 o’clock to keep the bar open which was very poor in these long summer nights. A bell is needed on reception as often there is nobody about when customers require assistance.
