The Bay Horse Hotel

The room was bigger than expected. The bed was comfy and the room was clean and comfortable. Good Facilities and wifi connection. I was visiting as I was working at Haydock Park for the weekend, the hotel is ideally located and was within walking distance.

The only downside was that the fire alarm went off a 2am on the 2nd night. About 6 people headed to the reception where 2 members of staff faffed with the alarm for about 30 minutes whilst muttering someone must have been smoking in a room. No explanation to us what was going on at any time, and as rooms hadn't been formally evacuated we all assumed it wasn't a real fire.

Although the foyer was pretty dirty and badly needed a vacuum (could've just been down to people coming in and out, as was fully booked), but the room was very clean. Check in was painless, even if we did have to wait a few mins for someone to let us in at 4pm! Room was big and clean, coffee and tea facilities, a bath-always a bonus!! Would defo recommend 👍

This would've got 10 / 10 if it had a fridge in the room. It was VERY hot, and a little fridge would've been a great addition. Only a USB A, not a 3 pin main socket, near the bed.

The hotel is undergoing refurbishment and this review reflects that. There was an overpowering smell of paint on entering the hotel and in our room it was really difficult to overcome this. On a cold night we had to have window open. I am asthmatic and this was a major problem The room was very good apart from the water pressure which we were informed was subject to a major leak. There was no shelf space at all. There were no grab handles over the bath or indeed anywhere to put shower gel or shampoo. We would return but only after all refurbishment is complete and paint smell is diminished.

Though the place was busy with racegoers we received a friendly welcome and checked in very quickly. We had an evening meal in the bar which was very good and very reasonably priced. The menu was pub grub but there was a good and varied choice, nicely presented and good quality. The room was comfortable with a nice bathroom and very comfy bed. Breakfast was great - a nicely cooked and plentiful full English.

Nothing, it fullfilled our needs for a very good price.

I was a bit wary about staying in a hotel attached to a Greene King pub but there was nothing wrong with this hotel. It was clean, comfortable and the location to the race horse was brilliant. We didn't have breakfast in the pub so can't comment on that, but we did order a few bits to eat and some drinks before going the races and couldn't fault anything.

2 minor things - Better pressure from the shower would be good. And a mini fridge in the room would be useful.

Facilities are great, good location with nice bar with great food. Staff are great and welcoming, asked for a takeaway breakfast and was no issue at all which was great as needed to be away straight away for work. Booking was for work purposes. I have not found anything like this place for the price whenever I have been working away before, great value for money, definitely would stay there again. Thanks to everyone 👍

Bathroom has a leaking ceiling (likely is the room above has a leaking shower which needs fixing) this filled the floor with water in the morning. The room was only cleaned once in the week there, towels changed daily though.

The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable - excellent breakfast included in stay - brilliant position for walking to Haydock Racecourse and into town itself - would not hesitate to stay again

Only one small point - we stayed for two nights but there was no housekeeping whilst we were there - not sure if this is normal or we were just missed out but as we were only there for two nights, it did not make a great deal of difference

The staff are very helpful and friendly. The pub is very good, more like a restaurant that shows football really, but the food is very good indeed, and good value for money. The location is good, a few minutes walk into the local town which has a decent selection of pubs, restaurants and shops. Very easy access to the motorway network for getting out and about

The mattress wasn't great, I could feel some of the springs, so perhaps get some toppers on the ones that need them. The photos of the pub showed a pool table, which we enjoy playing, but they've taken it out to make more room for diners. Food service is a bit slow (although they do inform the waiting time at the till), I think they're a bit understaffed, but that seems a common situation in the UK

Staff were curtious, friendly & more than willing to be helpful, even at one o'clock in the morning. As for breakfast, It is very rare that we have stayed somewhere, and had breakfasts where everything on our plates was perfectly cooked & tasty. We also had evening meals on both days of our stay, & even though they came from the two for £10.95 list, they were still excellent & full sized.

Whilst the hotel rooms were clean & comfortable, they are tired & in need of updating, however I was told by the staff that there is to be a 1 million pound refit later this year which should rectify this.

Friendly staff, Emma was very helpful. Breakfast was served in a timely fashion and was nicely cooked. All the staff were attentive and polite. The room was very clean and well maintained.

I think a grab rail in the shower over the bath would be a good addition, as I am getting older its harder to get into a shower over a bath. Alternatively make more of the rooms with walk in showers. It would have been nice to have the option of decaf coffee in the bedroom.
