Cooked breakfast (and dinner) was good, although I thought the available choices for continental breakfast were a bit limited for a four-star establishment. Coffee was not exactly "hot". Our room was quiet, comfortable and very clean.

Some of the room furnishings are a tad dated (I suppose some would say it adds to the charm). There was no shaving light, no telephone communication with reception, and I could not see any fire escape info on the bedroom door ! As stated, remember there is no lift to the first floor bedrooms.

Love this place! If you're looking for low key, this is it. The rooms are smallish, as is the shower, but they are charming and very clean. Breakfast (included) and dinner menus are varied and delicious. It's the only pub in the area, so the locals are in for a drink also. Can't say enough good things about the staff. We arrived quite late the first night, and someone was kind enough to make us a sandwich, crisps, and a pint then wait patiently while we ate. We definitely plan to stay here again. There is bus service that runs about every 90 minutes.

The food we had from the restaurant was fantastic, someone had thought very hard about the breakfast to make sure there was a lot of choice we love both of the breakfast we ordered other our 2 day stay! we didn't expect to have a choice just thought we where going to get a traditional breakfast!!! This is what make's this hotel stand out for me has they offer the customer's something different!!

we booked a superior twin room which was a great size the only thing that let it down was the split in the bath tub, which was the only reason l didn't give it a 10. There wasn't anything else l would change !

Easily accessible from the road, plenty of parking. Good noise insulation from pub/restaurant to the room. Restaurant staff was amazing, kind, generous. Sam specifically deserves a shout out for going above and beyond. House keeping staff also deserves a big thank you… thank you. Food was good - would very much recommend.

Specific to our stay, we would have preferred access to the rooms without needing to take the stairs- but this was expected for a pub and general access to the rooms was fine.

The location was far from the center but in a very nice place. Its nature and atmosphere impressed. We really liked the locally arranged hotel interior. The taste of the liquor waiting for us in the room was delicious. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We stayed in 5 different hotels during our 12-day holiday and this was the most beautiful hotel. The breakfast was magnificent.

All the staff were absolutely lovely and very helpful. Breakfast was delicious, especially the banana split with berries. We ate in the restaurant on the second night and dinner was great too, although my chicken schnitzel was so enormous I couldn't manage a pudding! The view from our bedroom was amazing, sheep, rabbits, oyster catchers with newly hatched chicks, a chicken and birds flying in and out of nesting boxes. Just wonderful.

A little gem just south of Edinburgh and in the perfect location for our trip south. Dinner in the restaurant was very tasty with a good selection and breakfast was good quality freshly cooked and served quickly. Staff were friendly helpful and smiley. The bed was comfortable and bedding was luxurious. The room was a small double which was fine for our short stay with a good ensuite shower. Really enjoyed our stay.

We appreciated the welcoming atmosphere and the friendly staff. The room was lovely with everything needed. Coffee and tea was provided as well as as small bottle of a local spirit. Everything came across as clean and well kept. We had dinner in the restaurant and enjoyed our meal.

For our backs the mattress was a bit too soft. We kept rolling into the middle. Maybe it might need a revision or refreshing?

Staff excellent. As a result of water problems were provided with free evening meals and drink. Breakfast very good,wide range of breakfast eats. Room clean and a good size.

Problem with water supply as a result poor supply of hot water resulting in unable to use shower and took ages to get a small amount of water in bath.

Very clean, room well appointed, staff was lovely and friendly and even though service was a bit slow, the food was excellent.

The photos are deceptive because the hotel appears to be set back in a nice, green setting; however, it is literally right on a well traveled road. Our room was very small. Although we e-mailed to ask for a room with a tub, we got no response.
