Holiday Inn Express London - Wandsworth, an IHG Hotel

This is a very good - and reasonably priced - place to stay on the semi-outskirts of London. The immediate surroundings are pretty sterile (there's a massive new office and apartment building project going up right next door - but if you walk just a few minutes to the south there are some pretty nice restaurants and a couple of decent pubs. Also, a massive breakfast included.

Well, when you stay at a Holiday Inn Express, you know what you're getting: a functional if characterless room in a functional, characterless cookie-cutter hotel. Fine for a night or a two, or if you don't spend a lot of time in the room, but I think it would be depressing if much longer.

The welcome was friendly and efficient and helpful - as we booked a disabled room in error. We were moved to an alternative room which was nicer. We liked the location as it was easy to get around to our various meetings. The breakfast was pretty copious and the staff were very helpful. The rooms were practical and comfortable. You need more hooks in the bathroom for hanging towels and clothes.

Breakfast on Monday morning was not the same standard; the food counters were not clean - coffee spills etc. Needed to be cleaned more regularly. Also no where to deposit used teabags/sugar/teabag envelopes. For the change of room - the bathroom waste bin had not been emptied and we were met with sanitary items and other female products.

The bedroom was spacious, clean and tidy. The bathroom was a good size and very clean. The shower was good as it had a rail so I could position the shower head where I wanted. It was quiet overnight so we slept well. The bed was comfortable and a good size although we are used to a large king size bed. The train station was a short walk away (5+ mins)and had some nice café’s, restaurants and mini supermarkets. There was plenty on offer at breakfast although they didn’t have any eggs. Overall we were very satisfied and will happily return.

We prefer a large king size bed but I’m not sure there was an option when we booked. We would have liked eggs at breakfast but we accept there are supply issues at the moment even in the supermarkets.

Happy with hotel, have stayed previously to visit daughter who lives nearby

Having stayed previously, we had no hesitation to rebook, we even paid for 2 extra guests to join us at breakfast however this time breakfast was terrible, hot drinks machine out of order, juice was watered down and with an hour left of service, no cakes, pastries, very limited hot breakfast only couple of sausages and scrambled egg between 4 of us, and a toast machine was broken. We asked a member of staff if it would be replenished and was advised no that’s it. Complained to the staff member at reception who we had paid for 2 extra guests, received no apology or refund. Terrible attitude from staff

Staff were really great! Helpful and professional. The room had everything I needed, except maybe body lotion. It was a decent size. Shower was really good, and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was included in the price and not bad. Pastries, cereal, fruit, bacon and eggs. Relatively basic but did the job.

It’s a little tired, especially the carpet could use a refurb. But for the price I cannot fault it

- Customer service team that was responding to my messages online on booking.com firstly responded negatively to my ask for a check in at 1am even though I paid for the night. Upon booking.com Team intercention I was able to check on then. Next, I asked to pick up some food from the buffet before the breakfast was served at 6:30am but I was advised „it is out of the crew’s remit and it cannot be arranged”. For clarity, I literally wanted to made myself a coffee and grab a croissant, so nothing fancy… luckily, the reception Team was way more flexible and accommodated this request. I think the personnel managing the conversations with customers online could be more empathic and understanding.

Cleanliness.. spotless room for handicap user & spouse. Amazing toilet/shower/ fluffy towels & wheelchair access there. Small very dark room but with superb bed lights & fabulous layout for 2 people attending Wimbledon tennis. Breakfast very good but not into fine dining which suited us for meeting friends as few in reception/ lounge/ fining area so perfect for seniors & my deaf husband to hear all. We were gobsmacked to see the enormous dining area packed in the mornings for breakfast as so few there at night. Though in the middle of a building site now we never were disturbed by any noise.

For us nothing could have or needed to be improved tho for the more glamorous bright people e.g. our own children, might like a bigger, more elegant more luxurious room & that is a fair opinion. We were quite satisfied with a bland, hyper practical space with ideal fittings & cleanliness & little space for poor mobility as I have.

Location is wonderful, in my point of view. Not far from the city center, calm and quiet. There is a train station, a bus stop not far from it. There are a couple of parks and there is no problem to walk there. In 1 minute you can get Thames. Sure, sometimes Thames doesn't smell good, however it is not a big problem. Breakfast really helps to start every day. There was an iron in my room and it's really convenient. It was my first time in London and I really glad that I chose this accommodation.

The hotel was super convenient for my work related meeting in central London, being less than a 5 minute walk from Wandsworth Town station (zone 2) with its frequent trains to Waterloo in under 15 minutes. The hotel is also located near the banks of the Thames which I imagine would be pleasant on a summer's evening (albeit I stayed in February). My room was spacious, comfortable and clean, and I especially enjoyed the buffet breakfast (English as well as continental !)

Everything was good.
