St Athans Hotel

The location was very good for our purpose - close to undergrounds and train stations, cafes and shopping. Check in and check out were quick and easy. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. We knew not to expect large rooms, but the triple room we had were larger than we had expected, clean and comfortable, so that was nice. En-suite bathroom was small, also as we had expected, but it was super clean and modern, ample hot water and good pressure. The hotel’s exterior facade was very charming, that scored them extra points from me 😊

Would be nice to have hot water kettle in the room to make coffee/tea.

The location is 10 minutes from Euston, 5 minutes from Russel Square. It's the most central I think I've ever stayed in London- and for a (semi-reasonable) price. This place looks very retro and still has many of the same fittings/decor from years prior, so if you're after a trendy stay, this isn't your go to. But it was exceptionally clean, there was plenty of wardrobe space, the beds were comfortable, the rooms were spacious with a sink/mirror in them, and the shared bathroom/toilet was always incredibly clean with instant hot water (and surprisingly, even though we stayed over the London pride period, I was never left waiting for facilities). Check-in/re-entry to the property is operated via a 24hr buzzer for the front desk, which is a little jarring, but always reliable and staff were always friendly. I think if I were travelling solo, this quirk would actually make me feel much safer in the property.

The water tastes awful! But I was drinking it from the room tap and it is London! Only negative.

Lovely room, small but with your own basin, comfy bed, and warm in winter. Daily housekeeping with friendly staff. Unbeatable location in Bloomsbury between Russell Square and Euston, walk away from British Museum and West End theatres. Shared bathroom not a problem because of how many were provided for each floor.

Old building was awesome but had the downside of many stairs and no elevator - could prove an accessibility problem for some. A fridge or kettle in the room would be ideal for more amenities.

Staff were great. Rooms clean. Bathrooms clean. Furniture old and nice, art on walls better than "hotel non-art".

We asked for two rooms close together on booking. When we arrived, the two rooms booked were 3 floors apart. Luckily, we arrived to drop our bags several hours before check-in. They found us 2 rooms next to each other, but it meant that both rooms were in the half basement. They faced a light well off the street There were plants in window boxes, so it wasn't so bad to be down. I'm not sure what would have happened if we arrived after some others had checked in. I didn't like how ridiculously expensive rooms are in London. Within that caveat, this hotel was OK. Rooms were quite small, toilets smaller. But everything was nice (or better) aside from the size.

Lovely welcome, the best blend of friendly and efficient. A quirky place with interesting decor, having travelled we really appreciated it. The owner had made some beautiful stained glass windows and hanging decorations, which we took the opportunity to be shown before leaving. Made such a change from the faceless places where everything is the same. The beds were super comfortable! We had a room with a double bed and bunk beds.

It's a bit strong to say we didn't like anything, however in the hot weather some kind of aircon unit would have helped. However, there was a large fan which we were able to run all night, despite it being rather noisy.

The location was great for what we needed, there was a lot of places in walking distance or you could hop onto a bus in a few minutes and it felt like it took you to another world, London is a very interesting and different place. The staff were very helpful and welcoming. I stayed with my 13 year old daughter and places to stay are always a worry when you have a child with you but I didn't feel worried while I was there, we felt safe and comfortable

There could have been a kettle and tea making facilities in the room, there was a wash basin though which we both were happy about

Love the location. Bloomsbury is my favorite neighborhood for accommodations when I visit London. St. Athans is close to the major transport hubs, like King's Cross, as well as a smaller tube stop, Russell Square. The staff are helpful, friendly, and eager to make your stay nice.

My only problem with our stay is not the hotel's fault, but I think worth mentioning. There is some construction happening directly across the street from the hotel. They begin early and go all day and are LOUD. I'm not sure anything can be done about it, but until the work has finished (which, as of late June, looks to be a while), just keep this in mind when you plan your days. If you are an early riser and don't plan to spend much time during the day in the hotel, it isn't a problem. Otherwise, it will get really annoying quite fast. Again, not the hotel's fault.

It may sound little bit stupid, but one of my main concerns when booking St. Athans Hotel was the shared bathroom - I've already got quite used to having a bathroom in the room, so I was little bit worried will the bathroom be clean, will it be available when needed, etc :). But the price for this type of room was very attractive comparing to other places in London, and the hotel has good opions, so I decided to book St. Athans despite my worries. And I'm sooo happy that I made that decision. The stay was great. From amazing and super friendly and helpful staff, to great location to explore many famous places by foot. It was also my first solo trip, and having the 24h staffed reception made me feel very safe. More things I'd like to mention: +the hotel staff responded very quickly to all my questions via Booking + great tips on breakfast options nearby and sightseeing suggestins on hotels' blog (I personally recommend Tropea in the Russell Square Park - fantastic surroundings to have a breakfast or lunch) + hair dryer available at the reception

The room card doesn't open the main door to the hotel, so everytime you're want to get in you need to buzz the door and someone from the reception will open the door. At first I felt little bit uncomfortable with that, but then again seeing the staff's there all the time, it made me feel quite safe - so all in all that's not really a minus :) Since the hotel is in the old building, the floor is little bit noisy, but that can't be helped, I guess.

I love it there . It’s my fourth time in this hotel. Perfect for really active people who are a lot in the city and sightseeing . It’s really close to the city and you can walk in 15 - 20 min to Covent Garden and the theatres etc. also to Camden market . I just walked everywhere . Also easy St. Pancras station is 10 min walk and from the you can take the normal train to Gatwick Airport . Also many new coffee shops like Pret A Manger in the area and Tesco express. I booked a single room, with shared bathroom . There are so many bathrooms and toilets in the house , so I never waited to take a shower or to use the toilet . Really friendly and helpful staff.
