George Hotel

Since my last visit the George Hotel has been completely renovated and all rooms now have ensuite facilities. The hotel offers a superb breakfast buffet with freshly made coffee and a generous selection of breakfast items . The hotel staff were all friendly and cheerful. The location on quiet Cartwright Gardens, close to Russell Square station, is perfect for travellers coming direct from Heathrow on the Piccadilly line. It is a short walk as well to KingsCross St. Pancras for travellers on the Eurostar. There is a laundromat nearby.

My room was very small, but comfortable . It included a single bed with a table and chair. The bathroom was tiny, but the shower was good and had hot water. There was not enough shelf space for toiletries. As there is no elevator at the George, be prepared to climb stairs to your room.

The hotel was close to transport links and situated in a quiet area. The communal areas within the hotel we came across were clean and well looked after. The beds were comfortable, warm and the en suite had a lovely walk in shower. The reception was very welcoming and the staff were all very helpful and engaging. The hotel were able to accommodate our request for an upper floor and we were able to leave our bags on our final day to collect later. Morning staff were pleasant, made sure we were seated in a timely manner, had our hot drinks at the table for us getting back from choosing what we wanted for breakfast. There was a good choice of hot, continental, cereal, pastries, juices and toast being replenished regularly. We will certainly return on our next visit to London and would highly recommend the hotel. everything was perfect for our visit

Amazing location and staff were very friendly. Small park across the road to relax in, and great food right around the corner. Lots of pubs nearby and bustling streets. Quick walk to Kings Cross station too which was good when we had to catch the eurostar! Breakfast was also offered every morning as an option which was nice if you want a practical option before heading out into the city. Staff were also very kind to hold our bags for us after checkout.

One room for 5x of us was incredibly small and the bathroom was quite impractical. There was no floor space after each of us had opened up our suitcases so incredibly hard to manoeuvre. Quite literally climbing over one another! After 3 nights of living on top of one another we were more than ready to move out. Obviously depends on the room you book though. No aircon unfortunately but we knew this before our stay so of course this was fine but would have likely made it a bit more comfortable. Seems as though most of the price was to do with the location of the hotel and less it’s rooms/facilities.

The people working at the desk were always friendly, and checking in was very easy. The oscillating fan was excellent to have in the room (since there is no air con, and we were there for the short time in fall that is 80-90 degrees). The desk and bedside table were very handy, as was the armoire.

The tile in the shower was breaking, the grout was coming out from between the tiles, and the only trash can was a small can in the bathroom - so any of the accumulated trash throughout the day (be it take-away bags, empty water bottles, papers) just had to collect on the desk.

8 minute walk from Euston Train Station. Easy to get to and from airport or national rail. So many cafes, restaurants, and pubs around the hotel. Kings Cross station near as well. Quiet hotel in a little half moon street off main drag. Main thing was reception meeting us outside when I arrived at 1am for late check in, could not be more thankful for that. Great communication online. Bed fit 2 large males comfortably, didnt try breakfast but looked good. Cheap food options around. 5/5, perfect for the price to lay your head down without paying an arm and a leg for somewhere you hardly want to be in the whole time. Hot water in showers. Tea kettle and coffee packets. Perfect for the price.

Have nothing to complain about. It was quiet, staff was accommodating, price was good, and it was an easy check in and out. Loved my stay. Location is 10/10.

1) Check-in: the french ? girl was amazing, polite and helpful...nothing was any trouble, from showing me to my room (up the stairs, no lift!), to how to use the keyfob key to enter after the front door was locked at 11pm...she was an absolute star, kept a look out for me and we chatted about the sights and the day etc...unlike many places where they take ur money, and leave to work it out urself...a legend!....2) The location - Central london, close enough to get to places walking, and far enough away to stay safe and warm...3) Had a cosy room, small but my style...4) i've stayed in argyll square before, and that was like a school football playground, whereas, cartwright gardens was more tennis (they love! their tennis!)...5) there is a college building opposite, so i felt super-safe...6) loads to do, especially by foot...dora the explorer eat ur hat!...sunset at westminster, trafalgar, primrose hill...7) the leds in the bathroom, so u don't have to turn the light on and therefore put up with the fan for hours! 8) power points; 9) can leave luggage without paying an arm and a leg!; 10) first impressions last, and the young lady that checked me in was the clearly loved her doing her job her way...wow

Room 20: 1) the view from the room - it was pot luck! 2) the tv, but i was only there to rest my head! 3) the stairs, needed that henry hoover

Breakfast was excellent (self service - english fry-up/ cereal, as much as you need to eat), the room was small but spotless. The ensuite bathroom was equally spotless (family complained there was a slight smell but nothing major). On the first night, i had to complain the room was cold but it got rectified quickly.

The room windows are paper thin (not double glaze) so we could hear cars occasionally passing/ people shouting from the street. The reception and stairs/ corridor area decor needs a bit of updating to make it more pleasant to the eye.

This is an excellent hotel, value for money. It must be remembered there are no lifts in the hotel and it is an old Georgian house conversion. The rooms are very small but have everything one needs. The George is 5 minutes walk from the British Library, Kings Cross and St Pancras International station. There are plenty of places to eat and drink around the hotel. Do not expect luxury but it is clean, comfortable and contains everything you need. S H-J

Nice, clean accommodations for 1 night stay for a family..close to many family owned restaurants and pubs, and train stations. Strolled around the the lovely leafy neighborhood and parks before the football game at Wembley. Staff was very accommodating, storing luggage until our room was ready ..earlier than expected. comfortable beds, the Breakfast was 10/10 so delicious with so many items, even chocolate croissants. thank you staff!

bathroom and room were tiny. We were on top of each other...but hey it was only for 1 night!

The hotel is situated walking distance from the British Library. My room was very nice, very clean (newly decorated?), and so was the bathroom. Good breakfast. Excellent staff (especially the ladies in the breakfast room.

No lift/very narrow stairs, BUT you would expect it in old British houses :) The bathroom was nice and quite big, but the shower was a nuisance. It had a strange shower head, probably to save water, but in my case it did not work: the shower took me twenty minutes or so (instead of five), PLUS washing myself under trickling shower was only annoying and not pleasant. The water was nicely warm, though. Also, the shower curtain was rather short and the floor was badly levelled so much of the shower water went straight into the room! You could see that the floor around the bathroom door had already been ruined by the water!
