The New Forest Inn0

The rooms were clean and decorated to a high standard. Modern and fresh. We stayed in Room 1 - Anderwood, which was described as a cosy room. It was cosy as it was quite small but still had space to move around. The bed was comfortable with nice linen and pillows. Bathroom with a good powerful shower too. The actual inn itself is beautiful inside - well maintained and traditional. We loved it!

Our room was on the side of the property and we were directly above the kitchen so we could hear the team cleaning with the windows open. This didn’t bother us but may be something others wouldn’t like.

The breakfast options were plentiful and the food was excellent. There were local beers on tap. The menu is a gastro pub menu and the food was outstanding. Just be aware that the rooms are above a pub, so you will hear the “locals” enjoying a pint! It was, however, quiet by 11:00 or earlier. Manager, Rob, was most accommodating as were Hannah, Alicia, Verity and Kyle. We also enjoyed chatting with the housekeeper, Violette. The New Forest Inn was located near trail heads into the New Forest. Downtown Lyndhurst is a one mile walk and has many shops, food establishments and The New Forest Heritage Museum.

IDEAL LOCATION QUIET AND PEACEFUL PERFECT PLACE TO DECOMPRESS EXCELLANT CHOICE OF BREAKFAST MENU CHOICE OF MENU VERY GOOD SOMETHING FOR EVERYONES TASTE. STAFF POLITE AND HELPFUL.

BOOKED A EVENING MEAL ADVISED THERE WAS A 45 MINUTE DELAY UNFORTUNENATELY HAD TO WAIT A HOUR AND A HALF FOR OUR FOOD DUE TO ONE OF THE CHEFS NOT SHOWING UP. WAITRESS VERY APOLOGETIC AND REMOVED DRINKS FROM BILL INCONVIENENCE WAS DEALT WITH VERY PROFESSIONALLY. WE HAD BOOKED A DOUBLE BED BUT WAS ALLOCATED A TWIN WITH VERY NARROW BEDS (2'6).

The breakfast was good with vegetarian options. The room was tidied, towels changed and tea, coffee etc topped up every day.

The room we had was newly decorated and had a completely new modern bathroom however, inexplicably there was no window or ventilation. Leaving the door open all night was not a good solution. To make matters worse the extractor fan in the bathroom did not work. We reported the problem and the staff member said the matter was being addressed.

It was in a lovely situation with the New Forest starting at the back of the property. While the road was quite busy when we were eating breakfast it was otherwise relatively quiet and because the roads are so narrow and traffic both ways was arriving downhill it made relatively little noise and we hadn't noticed it all in our bedroom. The Booking .com website had warned that the rooms were over a bar and there might be some noise but in fact all the rooms are over the kitchen area, which didn't produce any annoying sounds (there was some music, just audible, presumably on a radio, in the morning but not at an annoying level). The website also said there was no parking but in fact there was adequate parking when we arrived, but none specifically reserved for guests. It appeared that they hadn't received confirmation of payment from Booking.com but they said that wasn't unusual and they would sort that out and made us very welcome without delay. The food was good. Access to the rooms was through a separate outside locked door, so one could come and go as one pleased without going through the bar.

While it did NOT bother us it would be a good idea if the property details on the website made very clear that the only access to the bedrooms is up a fairly steep and narrow winding stair - not unusual in such an old building but not suitable for anyone with limited mobility.

Staff amazing, location amazing, food amazing. The only thing we experienced was our hot was very hot because we were above the kitchen and there was a boiler in our room, you couldn't open the bathroom window as it was blocked the other side which made the room pretty hot. The staff were so lovely and warned us as we checked in, there was a fan going and was before we got there and so was appreciative of that and a big window in the room. But for me being above the kitchen in Julys heat , boiler and only 1 window that opened is the reason why I havnt marked this place higher. I didn't sleep well because of it even with my own attempts to cool myself down. But there you go. But apart from that, and I feel it needs updating regarding the decorating and especially the walkway to the room. We had a nice stay :)

Room had been recently decorated and was nicely presented and modern, bed very comfortable. Nice to see New Forest ponies wandering down the road outside. Near to a lovely area for walks in the forest. Evening meal and breakfast in the pub downstairs was lovely, staff very friendly and welcoming. Pub has a good atmosphere and a lot of character and charm.

Needs some shelves for toiletries and a longer mirror in bathroom

The staff are amazing, made us feel like regulars as soon as we walked in. The room was a good size, as was the bathroom & the bed is huge. The food was really enjoyable & portions are on the large side. The pub is within the Forest which is great, the garden is large with loads of seating, plants, flowers & mature trees.

The room was very warm which the staff tried to alleviate by putting 2 large fans in the room, which helped immensely. But it's an old quirky pub, so these things are going to happen.

Friendly, approachable staff… offered lots of love and attention to our little pooch! Very impressed with the room- very clean and modern. Food was delicious- especially the breakfast. Great, central location for exploring the New Forest.

We noticed sound travelled up to our room, so woke a little earlier in the morning but that isn’t enough to stop us returning!

Everything. The staff, accommodation and selection of food and drink was exceptional. The menu was imaginative and the food delicious. The location is beautiful and walks are abundant from the doorstep. Also lovely to see the ponies wandering freely along the lanes.

Should have stayed longer.
