Charming old property full of character & homely feel. The owner greeted us upon arrival and reception staff checked us in straightaway. We had an evening meal which was excellent and great choice on the menu. All staff were very nice and polite. Breakfast next morning was great too, nice personal service from the owner who goes far and beyond to be an ideal host. Would highly recommend.

The warm welcome; a positive and buzzing atmosphere peppered with quiet moments and superb food. A full-on characterful pub with excellent staff. Appreciated the obvious nod to environmental concerns re plastic and waste in general.

Nothing to point the finger at. Appreciate the bedrooms are being upgraded generally and the new Landlords are moving through these paces quickly.

The location of the Bruce Arms was ideal as it was a "halfway" stop for our journey home from Galloway and Ayrshire. Breakfast was very good and the room and facilities were comfortable. We ate our evening meal at The Bull pub across the road as there was not a chef on a Wednesday. However there is a fish and chip van in the village on that evening.

We were three couples coming for a short break. The pub was in a lovely location with plenty to see nearby and the staff were welcoming and helpful. We were given great breakfasts and an evening meal made with local produce. The bed linen and towels were good quality.

Two of the rooms could have been warmer.

Everything at the Bruce Arms was exceptional because the owners go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable: ambience of the pub, helpfulness of staff, quality of vegan dinner and breakfast, drinks in the bar, comfort of bedroom and bathroom, and it's dog-friendly. There are lovely walks in the pretty village and it's easy to get into the Dales from the pub.

Everything was spot on here in all aspects. Our stay was enjoyable set in a lovely village. Breakfast was really nice. Lovely friendly staff and everything was clean and fresh.

We had no tv that's the only tiny negative. Some times you need the rest and not be in the pub all night.

Very friendly and welcoming staff. Excellent restaurant food. Convenient base for brief exploration of Ripon area. Comfortable room.

Room lacked TV - a minor inconvenience, and a shelf of books was mitigation. Not keen on dogs in restaurants, but others obviously unconcerned.

Great location and cozy pub with rooms in lovely village! Close to Thornborough Henges, my reason for visiting and lovely country walks. Delightful and friendly staff and delicious food too, great place to stay!

A little chilly in the rooms in the evening, but it is Yorkshire!

Warm friendly staff with a great atmosphere! Seems well used by locals. Fab food - not usual pub grub which was an unexpected treat. My recommendation for dinner, have the scotch egg starter and order garlic bread with whatever you choose for main!

Limited parking at the moment but having said that a new car park is under construction! Maybe music a little loud in restaurant?

The dinner was amazing, not cheap but you pay for quality, and it was so good.

Breakfast not served before 8.30, as given who good dinner was , was looking forward to it, but i had to leave at 8, but they were kind enough to put some cereal out for me which was nice.
