The Royal Oak Ripon

This is a great location just off the Market Square. Our room was quite compact but fine for an overnight stay (I think we'd find it too cramped for an extended visit however). Although the building is old and a bit creaky, as well as being in a central location, we had a good night's sleep in the comfortable bed. And breakfast the next morning was excellent, with lots of choice, well-prepared and in generous portions! Staff were friendly too. We would come again although only for an overnight stop such as this was.

We couldn't manage to get their free wifi to work but luckily were able to access a public Yorkshire network. While we appreciated parking being available in a yard behind the pub, the space was very tight to access and our car was filthy the next morning having been under trees where lots of birds must roost - not the pub's fault, just a warning to others. I think if we stay again we would park in the Market Square, especially as we were a little surprised to be charged £5 for the pub's parking place. It wasn't a problem for us but the room was up two steep flights of stairs so anyone with mobility problems or unable to carry their luggage up will struggle here.

Staff are very friendly and helpful with any queries you have. Breakfast was served at a time that I asked for Room was very good and pleasantly surprised that the ensuite had a bath as well as a shower. I did not hear the pub downstairs when in my room and Saturday night was quite busy. The pub does evening meals and they are of a very good quality and portions are a great for the price. The food served is with locally sourced produce which I loved to eat. Just a heads up with the Wi-Fi it works great downstairs in the pub but if on the top floor then there is free wifi from the town that is perfect when signal is lost from the pub. (It is an old building so walls are a lot thicker)

Nothing negative to say as I really enjoyed my stay and the staff are most helpful and attentive to reasonable requests and needs of the customers staying overnight.

The room was clean and spacious. The bed was comfortable. Breakfast was very nice. Not the usual option of help your self to cereals and juice but cooked food was on the menu and choice of juices. When we first arrived the hotel was exceptionally busy because there had been a day event in the square with floats and entertainment. Charlie was there to help and she was very helpful with how to get to parking round the back with the roads being closed. After we were checked in again Charlie sorted out a table for us for our evening meal. Vey nice girl. Would definitely come back if we are down that way again.

Excellent location and free parking; the room was very comfortable and the bed was great; breakfast was very good with more imaginative options (eg smashed avocados on toast; Croque Madame) than usual.

The car park though free was awkward to park in with non obvious spaces marked off with wooden posts. The wifi was very flakey and kept dropping.

Bit of squeeze to get round the end of the bed without holding into the fireplace to stay upright. They forgot to put towels in the room, so had to ask for them, then the staff put them by the wrong door, so i still had to go hunting for them. Only one bedside light worked out of all of the lights in the room. Even the main light didnt work.

The Royal Oak is in the centre of Ripon, so the location is good except that on the day we arrived the street was closed due to Bank Holiday. Finding the car park was difficult but the staff was very helpful when we called for directions. Room was comfortable and well appointed. Note, we were on the top floor only accessible by stairs. Staff were pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was good and plentful.

There was nothing bar parking access we can say negatively about the Royal Oak.

The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. The breakfasts were excellent and the dinners were superb. The staff were very friendly and always helpful.

Unfortunately the extractor fan wasn't wasn't working in the bathroom which has encouraged mould to appear on the bathroom ceiling. Part of the ceiling in the bedroom itself had a large area of flaking paint/plaster which spoilt the overall look of the room. The T.V remote was quite worn and dirty and should be replaced.

couldn't get reliable wifi on either of our phones toilet seat loose and dirty couldn't have a shower without getting hair wet sticky floors and surfaces in room

Very pleasant welcome from staff , evening food is good as is breakfast . Comfortable bed .

A bit disappointed that when we popped out in the evening and came back to the hotel the pub was closed lights out locked up ... We deliberately came back just before 10.30 to have a quick drink before bed .. in my view not really acceptable . I liked the little cans of water in the room on our previous stay.. not provided this time .

Perfect location. The room was perfect for me. Really clean and nicely decorated. The bed was comfortable and clean. The bathroom was good and i got a bath in my room which i requested. The staff are really friendly and helpful. The breakfast choices were amazing and really nice. The dinner choices were lovely and tasty. I recommend the Black Forest chocolate pot for dessert, i wish I’d got the recipe!!

Loved everything about from the property. One night someone was playing music really loud in their room which was pretty annoying but i can’t blame the hotel for that.
