It was off the main road into Ripon, so not one that you could walk. It said on the website, '2 minutes' from Ripon and it was, but by car. I had misread it and thought we were staying in Ripon and could walk around the town. The food was delicious and Seamus tried hard to be helpful and was very friendly and informative.

I didn't like the fact that it wasn’t walkable to Ripon. Close drive to Fountains Abbey and other nice places to visit. For us, it was a perfect place to stop overnight on our way to Scotland.

The host was extremely welcoming and immediately relaxed us after a bad drive up in heavy rain. Perfect gin and tonic and bloody Mary and we were set up. Top quality bacon, sausage, black pudding, egg and good coffee meant the breakfast got top ratings from us! Bed was extremely comfortable and the host told us it was a new mattress and the bedding was light and warm on a cold night.

I would have preferred WiFi but used my phones 4G for my laptop though WiFi was available from BT at £4.99 an hour

Lovely room, clean and comfortable. We we traveling with bikes and there was storage available. The beer was great and the breakfast really delicious. The owner was friendly and helpful.

Unfortunately there was no food being served on the night we stayed due to circumstances outside the owner's control but it did mean going back into Ripon, which without a car would have been a long trek along a busy road. The owner very kindly drove us into Ripon and we had a nice meal. We were disappointed not to try the restaurant at the Black a Moor as it looked lovely and if the evening food were as good as the breakfast we missed a treat.

Really friendly staff. Very comfortable bed. We liked the size of Room 1 bedroom and bathroom. Bar and restaurant areas were cosy. Outdoor seating area welcome in the heat.

Unable to get a drink Sunday evening, even though we arrived back before 8pm. It would be useful to indicate that no food/drink is available on Sunday evening. Plug chain in bathroom wash basin broken.

We received a really warm welcome from proprietor Seamus and all his staff. Seamus went beyond expectations to ensure we had everything we needed including a lift to and from Ripon races the reason for our visit. Our room was bright, spacious, airey and very clean. The was food delicious and all beverages spot on. If we ever return to Ripon we will most certainly look Seamus up and once again stay at the Black a Moor. Well done Seamus and all staff!!

Relaxed atmosphere and warm welcome and treatment throughout our stay.

It was a bonus to be able to park the car easily with no pre booking or any of the awkward things you have to do with larger hotels. We had three different rooms, all were great and when the radiators were on, very cosy. Breakfast was excellent and the overall feel of it all was ideal for us.

The restaurant was closed the two nights we were there which meant having to go out again to eat and I was looking forward to tasting the food.

Great atmosphere and beautifully furnished with lots of oak beams and a real fire. Sitting by the fireside in a comfy sofa felt like home. Bedrooms were very comfortable, clean and provided biscuits with the tea/coffee making area and all products provided in the bathroom. Very stylish furnishings and duck down pillows. We ate lunch and dinner there - delicious with great service.

no problems

Proximity to Newby Hall was great, we were there for the Harrogate Flower Show and it was a 5 minute drive so very handy. The staff were really friendly, and the food was delicious. We had evening meals and breakfast and both were great, we’ve already booked to come back and stay for next year’s show!

Enjoyed our stay at the Black A Moor, friendly staff, we had an evening meal which was well cooked & fairly priced. The room itself was clean & bed comfortable.

I think breakfast could be included in the price, £8 is quite expensive, my wife isn't a big eater & only had toast (Seamus did offer to refund her payment) maybe an individually priced breakfast menu might be better.

Stayed as a couple for a night passing through. The restaurant really is lovely and the food exceeded our expectations. There was a fun selection of games available to play whilst enjoying a drink and the staff were friendly. The room was old and quaint and toiletries were provided.
