Unique historic place with plenty of character, where Charles Dickens and Queen Victoria stayed in the past. Some reviews mention the need for renovations or "a lick of paint": I truly hope the management doesn't listen or the place will lose all its character. It's more than fine as it is. It featured a big antique standalone bath tub which was worth alone more than the price of the room, a huge bed and everything necessary. The hosts were friendly and polite. The position was central and safe. And the price was simply incredible. I was here for a festival but I loved this place and Rochester to the point that I'm planning to come back for a relaxing weekend, just to spend more time in that room and explore the town and the many antique shops. What a find!

Character of the building inside and out i have rarely come across - art work, Interior Stay at this place you feel closer to ye'old English, monarchy, history The hotel felt alive - excuse what I'm about to say - but a Travelodge is nice but it feels modern, pre-fabricated, expected. When you stay at the royal Victoria you feel both past and present but in a comfortable fairly luxury way - It is the most unique place I have stayed In 10 years or more in the United Kingdom. Rochester is beautiful, cobbled, Victorian yet modern - restaurants looked class - I went for fish & chips to keep things affordable an simple - amazing chippy nice lady. Stay here and see if you agree - close to the church which I could see from my window - given the past few years that view was appreciated. I think I'm sensitive to old buildings and arguably spirits - I am not being arrogant or look at me, even a percent - if I felt a presence in the building, my room, the presence was warm - and I hoped it was Queen Victoria, wishful thinking from a pauper. Things were not spooky, I am just trying to be honest. Thank you & peace 🌤️

Nothing to dislike, place was amazing, more than you expect when booking.

Friendly and helpful staff. Soon after I arrived Marianne quickly sorted out an issue with my room for me and Jay was also helpful before I departed. My room was clean, including the bathroom and bedding. I found the bed comfortable. This hotel provides a very inexpensive and convenient location to explore the town and surrounding area. Rochester High Street is a popular destination on Friday and Saturday nights, with late-night pubbing and clubbing available. It can be lively and a bit noisy on those two evenings; so If you haven’t come to party; it might be best to pick another time to stay. If you have come to party, or celebrate you will find everything you need close to the hotel.

The downside of such cheap accommodation is that some of the rooms have a variety of issues. For example, in my room it was not possible to turn the radiator off, so I covered it with towels. If the owners of the hotel were to remedy this they would actually save themselves some money on energy bills. I believe that the hotel has been decorated since Queen Victoria stayed here and it is not true that if she were to return she would still recognise the wallpaper. Seriously though; the hotel will need some attention before King Charles arrives, but even in it’s present state; I think Harry would enjoy a weekend here.

I absolutely loved the history and quirkiness of this hotel. Besides being a cheap stay, i simply adored that nothing was straight, squeeky staircase that feels like 10,000 people have walked on before you had. Floors with slopes and the artwork displaying history and times of past rochester! Our room had a private bathroom and was the biggest room we've stayed in Europe the last 2 months AND came with a view of Rochester cathedral. Coming from Australia where everything is perfectly straight and boring...this was a piece of history I've now stayed in and I will never forget. Loved it a lot. Thankyou for having us. Also the hotel staff were kind enough to let us leave the car parked there after checkout so we could check out the local museums, castles and cafes by foot....

Because I'm lazy it was a big rough carrying my 24kg luggage up the stairs...but there's landings you can rest and check out the paintings and wall art. But this is kind of expected in older stays."Pain is only temporary" they say!!!

Clean, comfortable and spacious room at a reasonable price. It is a very old hotel and we expected to hear a lot of noise at night being on the main thoroughfare for the pubs and eateries but the extra glazing helped. The location is perfect for visiting Rochester as the hotel is situated in the old part of Rochester with the castle, cathedral and river walk on the doorstep. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.

When we arrived it was just a hotel with no food or beverage facilities as these only open on the weekend. No matter as The High Street is buzzing with venues, even in the week. It was quiet, the room was large and the bed was comfortable AND there was parking out back. The location is perfect as it is right on the High Street up the top end near the bridge across the Medway. From our room we could even see the spires of the cathedral. We stayed for 3 nights at a ridiculously low price at the end June, excellent value.

Over the three nights some people would prefer the room to be made up, but we were happy to be left alone. And anyway they left us replacement supplies.

This is definitely a budget hotel but that is reflected in the price which is super cheap. It is a really old building but we found that it lent it a certain charm. The location is fabulous being at the top of the high street. It has free parking (limited though) and the staff at reception were very friendly and gave dinner recommendations. The room was comfortable, the bath enormous.

Again this is a budget hotel don't expert 5* luxury

When you book a city Centre hotel for the price, you don't expect 5* luxury. Location and staff makes this place. The beds are very comfortable, the bedding is aged but clean. Go with an open mind given what you have paid and you wont be disappointed.

It is a bit dated to be fair. Even if half the rooms were full the carpark would not accommodate all the vehicles. Thankfully we arrived mid afternoon Friday and got the last spot. Five minutes later and we would have had quite a walk with the luggage and the hassle that would go with it. Apart from a few what ifs, it didn't spoil our weekend at all

What the hotel lacked in glamour, it made up for in character. Rooms were big Location excellent Staff really lovely and couldn't do enough for you. Warm atmosphere 👌

Hotel itself was a little tired and could do with a bit of TLC. Room was quiet, apart from the pigeon🐦 gatherings outside the window lol TV didn't work.

It's wonderful! It's an old coaching inn with an amazing history. The hotel is a weird tangled maze of stairs and rooms - as you'd expect from it's age. The room was beautiful, obviously it's tricky to keep things neat in an ancient building, so a bit of hodge-podge wires (properly boxed off) and a bit of peeling wallpaper was cool. The "Victoria Suite" - room 11, had a lovely staircase to the free-standing bath. The bed was luxuriously huge. Plenty of plugs (with USB sockets). All great.

I drink a lot of coffee. More coffee would have been nice - and more than 2 disposable cups (my girlfriend took one out on her walk on day one and binned it - confusion ensued...)
