The Albany St Andrews

We loved everything about our stay at The Arran! We arrived late from Switzerland and directly found the key where we were told it would be. The room was very cozy and clean. Seems like it was recently renovated. A lot of thought was put into the decoration which is just perfect. The next morning we met the manager who was extremely helpful and available. The breakfast arrangement with Bibi's Caffé is perfect.

I really can't think of anything to criticize in this lovely, cozy, clean and comfortable B&B. We had big nice fluffy duvet on our beds. The shower was great. Everything was perfect, especially for that price.

The location was superb. We were close to town, the golf course and beach. Parking was free which was a surprise and an extra bonus. The rooms were spacious, clean and came with a well stocked fridge. The staff were lovely, very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was lovely and there was plenty of choice, with small bowls to start with and a cooked option after you'd had your fruit bowl or oats etc. One morning I chose not to have a cooked option and opted only for the small breakfast bowl and so the staff gave me a bigger portion which was a lovely touch.

I think the only small things that may have made this stay even better (for me) would have been if breakfast could have gone on a little later. 9.30 felt a little early to have to be seated for breakfast, which is off site, particularly if you had a wedding the night before! The gulls and golfers are also a little loud at 6.00 am but I realise that is not the properties fault and if it hadn't had been so warm then the windows being shut would have drowned out most of the noise!

The place was super clean, furbished with great taste, and close to everything (seaside, castle, shops, you name it). A massive plus for the bathroom, which is an absolute « bijou ». The best thing about The Arran though is probably its manager, Angus. He is the best host we’ve had in our 10-day trip across Scotland (and we’ve had great hosts!). He is smart, caring, entertaining, helpful and will give you great suggestions if you just ask him!

Absolutely nothing, I’d recommend The Arran 1000 times! You’d have to eat all your meals outside though, but trust Angus to direct you to the best places in town!

The property was centrally located and in a nice area. It was very nicely decorated, furnished and finished. The facilities were luxurious and the room felt unique and not too generic. The staff member who greeted us and showed us the room was lovely; very friendly and polite, they also stayed late to show us around which was appreciated. We LOVED the bathroom, which was simply dreamy. The breakfast was very good as well.

There wasn’t a champagne bucket available. However this is not an issue or something to necessarily expect , but it would be useful if it was available. The glasses and refreshments in the room were all well provided etc.

We loved everything! Our room was a great size, the bed was really cosy and comfortable (and huge!) and all of the bedding, furniture and fittings were very good quality. The shower was great, (although sometimes cooled down a wee bit), and everything was really clean and shiny. The fridge was very handy, and had some complimentary drinks and snacks, and the toiletries were gorgeous. The location was ideal for the town and the beach. We were concerned that we might not be able to get parked nearby, but this wasn't a problem - there was always a space somewhere not too far away. The hosts - Angus and Claire - were a delight. They were so friendly and welcoming, were genuinely interested in us, and wanted us to have the best time in St. Andrews.

Nothing really; there was a wee bit of noise when people were coming and going, but this can't be helped.

Wow-this was an exceptional suite right in the centre of St Andrews. The standard of furnishings in the suite, is very high. The en-suite bathroom is a delight with a massive free-standing bath as well as a rain-forest walk-in shower. The fluffy lounge chaise is a perfect touch -after a long soak, it was amazing to just relax and stretch out on it. The Dux bed is extra comfortable and I felt well rested after my stay. Although I was out and about during the day, the ultra-smart tv is a bonus to help unwind before bedtime. This is a little piece of luxury that you have to allow yourself -go on, you know you want to!

I wish I had booked for longer!

The Arran is honestly one of the nicest places I've ever stayed. Everything you experience from the moment you walk in is flawless. I stayed in the Torrie room. On arrival, make sure to knock on the door to let Angus know you're there, and he will come and let you in. You will be shown to your room and given a tour of the facilities, which are second to none. The place oozes class but it isn't pretentious, you can tell that Angus is very proud of it, and takes a real pleasure in making sure his guests are happy. Usual tea and coffee making equipment is provided and the biscuits were worth the price of the room alone! The TV is a Samsung smart TV which integrated perfectly with my Samsung S21, it has lots of the usual channels and apps including Netflix and Prime Video. The Dux bed I slept on was Super King size and was the best bed I have slept on in many years, and as soon as I closed my eyes, I was in a coma until my alarm went off! The ensuite is small, but there is enough space to do whatever you need to do, the shower is a large rain shower and it is easy to operate with an excellent seal on the door. The hand soap, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner are Arran Glenashdale, and smell intoxicating. Whenever I smell those products in future, I will be instantly transported back to this beautiful hotel. I had breakfast at Bibi's Cafe on North Street about a minute away from the door of The Arran. As it was prebooked, I only had to give my name, and was shown straight to my table. The staff in Bibi's are highly attentive, and are always available to help, but they aren't intrusive, absolutely spot on! I had the full Scottish breakfast which included sausage, bacon, eggs (served however you want), mushrooms, haggis, black pudding, tomatoes and beans. I'm a big eater usually and I struggled to eat the whole lot! All in I am extremely impressed by my stay at The Arran and I can't think Angus enough for the lovely stay.

The WiFi can be a bit difficult at times but there are a few different routers throughout the property that you can connect to if the connection drops. I'd advise that if you are doing anything that requires a constant, steady connection, you add all the routers to your connection list before starting. The details of all the connections can be found on a card in your key envelope.

Outstanding. I had communications from both Angus and Claire from the offset with a pleasant welcome message before we even arrived. When we got to the property we were greeted by Claire who was warm, inviting and friendly who showed my partner and I to our room. The room itself was amazing. Fresh, spacious, very tastefully decorated, modern but with subtle aspects of classic Scottish and St Andrews heritage and history throughout. The bathroom was incredible, great water pressure in the shower especially considering we were a floor up. Heated towel rails and steam-proof mirrors were a great touch. Location was perfect, walking distance from almost everywhere you would want to go in St Andrews, with places coming recommended by Claire, one of which was a breakfast place called ‘Bibi’s’ which has affiliation with The Arran. Couldn’t recommend the place enough and will definitely be returning.

we have stayed in numerous hotels in St Andrews including all the expensive big names and to be honest this is the place where we will book again. We stayed in the Morris suite. Room was huge, bathroom sensational and the beds probably the comfiest we have ever slept in. The complementary mini fridge had water and soft drinks as well as snacks with tea and coffee in the room. Location was perfect and straight into the town and although on a sunny Good Friday was the busiest we have ever seen St Andrews, we parked on the road opposite the hotel. Fresh fruit and fresh coffee provided in the reception area each morning. if you want room only excellence, this is the place.

Everything was exceptional

First class friendly service and greeting from Angus on arrival, he made us feel completely at home straight away, nothing was too much trouble. Our room was a beautiful large room on the first floor, very tastefully decorated and light, looking out onto nice gardens and patio area, very large comfortable bed, good bathroom with his and her sinks and very nice shower. Complimentary drinks and biscuits in fridge were a lovely touch.

impossible to dry hair with hairdryer next to mirror as no electric socket, did mention this to Angus who was glad of the feedback and said he would look at this issue. A little noisy outside of room due to others using coffee machine in corridor and noise of footsteps on wooden flooring.
