Swan Hotel by Greene King Inns

the pub was a lovely old building and the food selection was very good

the room was in an annex beside the car park which was a bit noisy until closing time. also I had to keep the windows open because of the heatwave and it felt unsafe because I was on the ground floor and the windows had no restraints on them preventing them being opened from outside and an intruder entering the room. therefore I had to close the windows every time I left the room which resulted in the room being oppressively hot when I returned.

The location was perfect for a night before an early flight. Parking was free and only 15-20mins drive from Stansted airport. The surroundings were beautiful and we went for a short walk. This isn't really possible at an airport hotel, and we were happy with our choice

Be aware that booking.com lists some rooms as having a bath, this might not be the case once you get there. Don't go here for the food. It's not terrible but it's not amazing either. It will do its job if you are hungry which we were, but if we stay here another time we might go somewhere else for dinner.

We only found The Swan after looking for somewhere near Stansted to stay after arriving back from our holiday,what a great find...the pub was warm and welcoming ! The Receptionist Tiff was so accomadating and friendly. She went out of her way to make sure we were fed & watered after a late arrival...You really deserve a Big Thanks !! We found all the staff fantastic even though we only stayed overnight. As it was after ten at night the parking spaces had all been taken by other residents, so Tiff had a word with the chef who had finished his shift & the chef very kindly moved his car so we could park up...thank you ! The Room was a good size, clean & nicely furnished, the bed was really comfy. Breakfast was varied and fresh,cooked breakfast was also cooked to to order...delicious 😋 We shall return if needed for sure Thanks team you made 2 weary travellers very comfortable!!

Food was excellent. Room was spacious and clean.

The gamble that you can park in the car park and if no space then a 10 point turn to get back out followed by an impossible turn into the adjacent side road to get down to the public car park down the hill. Then the slog back up the hill with all ones stuff!! Only to find when you get back that a parking space has appeared!! Such is life!! Oh and don't forget to duck as the planes fly over on their way to and from Stanstead and when not listening to the planes, then enjoy the church chimes!

Reception staff were very welcoming, I booked for dinner which was very good value pub food, waitress staff were very friendly and attentive. My room was a single bed room, which I thought might be a bit uncomfortable but if was very comfortable and modern too, I was surprised how well my room was furnished and very clean too, I would of enjoyed staying a few nights at this hotel given the choice,

A bigger car park, it was very busy and no room for me to park, however one of the reception staff moved her car to a local car park so that I could park by the hotel, everyone was most helpful , I can only think a bigger car park was needed.

Great location, not just being close to Stansted (not that we heard any planes!) but also because Thaxted is a hidden gem. Our room overlooked the church, windmill and pretty alms houses with rolling countryside beyond. Our room was very clean and comfortable. The food was good, standard pub grub - big portions and the Eton mess is recommended! Staff friendly too. We had a call en route just to ask what time we would arrive and whether we would like a later meal time. That was appreciated. Our stay was great value. We only paid £35 for our room.

Nothing really. The car park is a bit small but we stayed on a Sunday when the pub was busy with local diners. Our room had that great view but was above the bar so a little noisy, but we weren’t bothered. I would recommend staying here, especially if you are flying from Stansted, which is a quick drive away along country lanes.

From checking in the staff were so friendly and helpful couldn't do enough for you.such a beautiful place in a beautiful village .Great breakfast great room very comfortable bed .shower and bathroom were fab .bed very comfy.had everything you need .a cooling fan as it was very hot weather so that was very handy.i really can't fault this hotel a d will be very happy to.return and recommend it to friends .we stayed in room 7

Not a thing it was all lovely

Lovely position opposite church. We did prefer being in the older part of the hotel during our first stay. Enjoyed dinner in the restaurant. The breakfasts were exceptional. My husband loved the beer. Very nice service. We are now resident in France and returning to UK we are very often disappointed with the standards in hotels/restaurants here. Greene King have a winning concept along with great staff to provide the best of British!

Loved that it was a pub, nice little area gave sort of soap opera vibes. The iron was very different to what I’ve seen which I liked. It didn’t produce steam I guess to keep the noise down, soap and shower gel provided was great. Plenty of plugs to charge my devices, great selections of tea and coffee. Menu on the side and a little book, hangers.

The taps were a bit hard to control at first, not many car parking spaces round the back, so had to travel a distance to get back to my car. Didn’t know where to go regarding the hotel part.

Great location. Stayed in room 17 and slept very very comfortably. Breakfast was great, especially the omelettes! Pub was great, portion sizes was small but food was delicious. Well priced drinks. Overall, a fantastic stay. Would return!

Some staff were great (especially lady at the bar with red hair) but other staff could have been more helpful. On check in, we wasn’t informed of anything so had to keep going up to the bar to ask about breakfast times etc. A little more of a welcome would have been great. Still a wonderful hotel!
