This was an absolutely gorgeous 17th century Inn, which just oozed character. The location of The Watermans Arms was to die for as well. it really is a beautiful location on the edge of The River Dart, which actually flows opposite it. From the minute we walked in to the minute we left, the staff were so welcoming and friendly! There was nothing they wouldn’t do for us. My wife and I came down for 4 nights forNew Years with our 2 dogs and we felt like we were part of the family every time we walked in. Breakfast was always a brilliant start to every day. it was delicious. There was a good variety as well. A lovely cooked breakfast or a continental breakfast for those looking for something lighter. Food on the evening menu was simple, honest home cooked food which myself and my wife love. made with love and care and we thought it was delicious. The location is 20 minutes from a variety of walks and activities that are ideal for those with dogs. We were able to spend our days walking the costal paths with our dogs allowing them to swim in the sea, run around in the woods, the fields or parks. We are even able to meet some seals during our day trips walking to the various costal coves. After long days out, it was always wonderful to come back and feel like we were coming back home. Simply wonderful and we will definitely be coming back 😃

We have no complaints about anything whatsoever. if there was one thing the rooms could benefit from, it would be a fridge, but that is us being absolutely uber critical. we have nothing bad or negative to say about The Watermans Arms at all.

A character property, large room, quiet, comfy bed, good breakfast, not far from totnes.

No filtered water was on offer during breakfast. I asked for water. I was offered either tap water or bottled water for which I would have to pay. So I went upstairs to bring my own filterèd water The door jammed and didn't close properly. At first I hadn't noticed, so I slept in a room that wasn't safely closed. Only when I noticed the problem, I was able to pull or push the door to close properly. I reported it. The receptionist on the day I left was reluctant to bring my suitcase down. Of they have steep stairs leading to the rooms, they must be able to bring my suitcase.

This place is amazing, from the premises themselves are old and lots of history as part of it used to be a prison. The staff and owners make the place, you enter as a guest and leave as a friend. We were so welcomed in by them and the locals, buying us drinks and the like. I don’t think i have ever stayed anywhere so welcoming. The location is amazing too as its situated right on a riverside, the name gives it away. Such a peaceful place and at night with the windows open you can hear the river running and the wildlife. I left feeling well relaxed and not really wanting to leave. The food is also staggering, you won’t be leaving hungry here. Top quality breakfast and plenty of it, Toast and fruit and cereal are available on tap, Jams and other condiments. The food in the Bar at night was also fantastic. I had fish pie one night, one of the specials, huge chunks of fresh fish and a mash to die for. Other meals were also out of this world, I tried the Lasagne and the scampi and the good lady had Burger on night and the other asked if they could do her some cheese and salad. Nothing was too much bother for these guys. Its such a dog friendly place too, our Akita just plopped herself down in the bar and the guys were just stepping over and round her, never complaining. They gave her sausages at breakfast and mad such a fuss of her. I tend to judge places on how they treat my dog and those are the places that get my business. This place will be getting my business for a very long time to come, I can’t rate it highly enough. The room was huge and looked out onto the garden, spotlessly clean and every kind of item in the room that you could need. The bed is so comfy and I slept better there than I have in a long time. Cracking shower and plenty of tea and coffee, if it’s not enough just asked for more. It has a small flat screen TV and Freeview box. Free WIFI through out the property. Massive shout out to Sarah, Katy, Leah, John, Linda and Mo

Nothing...its perfect the way it is. If you did find fault with the place then you had to look hard.

Friendliness of everyone, the peace and quiet of the location. The food was excellent and they had my favourite cider on tap! The location is beautiful. They were wonderfully dog friendly, not just dog tolerant, which is massively important to us. How lovely would it be to have your wedding reception/family celebration on the terrace!!

First very minor point...having to try and open the room door, as it had the lock and a handle to manoeuvre, with two dogs in tow, not an easy feat! Would have liked a specific dog poo bin.

Friendly staff made you feel at home. Breakfast was a good selection of cereals and individual bowls of assorted fresh fruit. Many options for a cooked , to order , breafast. Dinners served in the dinning room. Good choice plus specials.

A very scenic location beside a flowing stream with able table and chairs to enjoy your time beside this very old building ,which has served many uses down the ages , including as a prison! I didn't enjoy the last couple of miles drive to the location. The roads are very narrow and the local drivers , in my view all travelling too fast. In fairness they knew the road but even they can't see around blind bend!

This is our second year at the Waterman’s Arms, and we loved it even more! If you are looking for a chilled place to stay, with amazing pub food and a really friendly family run atmosphere this is perfect. My Mum and I took my 6 month old Puppy this year and we felt so welcome. The girls are absolutely lovely and work so hard. There isn’t anything that’s too much, and they are so inviting. If you are looking for romantic/luxury, this probably isn’t for you but if you want somewhere to relax after a day at the beach or walking with the dog, this is ideal. Exactly what we wanted!

Lovely breakfast, good variety, amazing staff, always happy to help, lovely friendly pub, delicious evening meals served with a smile every time, good value for money, gorgeous setting, this weekend was a treat for my partner and we had a great time. We would definitely stay again. The room was very comfortable, plenty of hot water. Bonus was plenty of parking, we arrived early around 11.30 having left quite early, 4 hour drive. One of the ladies offered us a coffee even though the kitchen wasn't open. The service was above what I expected and it made all the difference. I will definitely be recommending The Waterman's Arms to my friends.

Can't think of anything, if I had needed anything for the room I'm confident the staff would have got it for me.

The inn is located in a beautiful place with a seating area by the river. The room was nicely sized, the staff was very nice, breakfast and supper were good.Parking was close, free. and easy

The beds were far too soft, the shower was hard to operate, and in the last morning (out of 2) we didn't have hot water. The location, although beautiful, necessitated driving more than 5 km in curved narrow roads that were hardly sufficient for one car, between high fences that blocked the view of a car driving towards you behind the next curve. Such roads are very frequent in the region, so this problem is not unique to this place, but in my view, crucial.

Breakfast was incredible. It had everything and more you would want from a healthy and luxurious breakfast. Atmosphere was so nice I could’ve stayed there all afternoon too.

The room was super tiny. Like a little box. No closet to hang or fold your clothes. Matras was to soft for my taste but that’s preference. There was a lot of noise outside my window early in the morning from a cleanup crew emptying glass or something. It woke me up.

The staff were fantastic, very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was superb and really set us up for the day. The evening meal menu was a bit limited but the food was tasty. The setting is what really makes this pub, in a secluded valley by the river. The bed was super comfy, we slept really well there.

The decor in the bedroom was a bit tired and because the pub is pet friendly there was a faint whiff of dog from the carpet, but it's only a minor dislike, it didn't detract from our stay. The owners don't change towels or clean the rooms once you are there - Covid restrictions I guess, but given that there is no social distancing etc any more it felt a bit over zealous
