Cara Guesthouse

The breakfast is very good with the hosts prepared to prepare exactly what you want from their menu. Also friendly and helpful; with good Northumbrian/ Tyneside humour. Whitley Bay has been improved with the creation of the Spanish Centre, a clean-up of the sea side promenade and moving away from the image of stag and hen parties in more seedy hotels- well that is my impression having stayed previously before I discovered the excellent Cara Guesthouse. Transport links are good with frequent buses and a good Metro system- using the Tyne Tunnel makes it easy to get to the resort without having to battle the Newcastle road network. Obviously the Northumbrian Coast with all its historic castles and islands is a big attraction- but if you like a buzzing nightlife then Newcastle and Gateshead are within easy driving distance or accessible using the Metro.

I always enjoy my stay so no real negatives. As someone with arthritic problems it is better to book rooms on the ground or middle floor as there are 39 stairs (a la John Buchan!) to the top landing. Parking is reasonable as it is just outside the centre of town- though there is no parking on site there's a public car park about 200m away where you can leave your car overnight.

The host Maria is a delightful lady, very friendly and welcoming, hardworking, eager to please. She goes the extra mile to respond to guest’s requests. The room (double with en-suite) was spacious and comfortable. Maria’s breakfasts are excellent. She offers a good choice and makes an effort to cater for individual preferences and requests.

That dogs are allowed. I’ve stayed at Cara twice and both times there was a dog in a nearby bedroom that barked during the night and/or very early in the morning. I don’t think this is fair on other guests. It disturbed my sleep. A more minor point: the bedroom looked very clean. But when I ran a wet wipe over the white shelves (provided for clothes) it came off dark grey. So there was obviously fine dust on them. And I found a piece of litter on the floor (a screwed up sweet packet). This was my second stay in the same room, and on the previous visit I didn’t notice any shortcomings in cleanliness, so this may have been just a one-off lapse and it wouldn’t deter me from staying at Cara again. The dog policy might.

I was staying at Cara’s guesthouse from the 20th of Jan until the 24th of Jan 2023. The room was very cozy and neat, with the heating radiator, hot water and perfect homemade breakfast every morning. Try their pancakes, they are the most delicious pancakes I have ever tried anywhere in the world! They were very thoughtful and made me some breakfast on the go on the day when I had to leave and check out very early in the morning. Also the location was just perfect as the guesthouse overlooked the beach and the sunrises were incredibly beautiful! I would certainly come back and stay again with pleasure! Best wishes from Baku!

the general feel of the place was homely and welcoming. the room was huge, clean, comfortable with nice art/pictures on the walls and great views of the beach. try the breakfast burritos they are fantastic. Cara the landlady went out of her way to make sure everything was ok and she let us park our motorcycles on the patio at the front of the house, moving plant pots out the way etc, little things like that kind of personal service makes a big difference. i will be back there sometime for sure.

I didn’t dislike anything here other than i wish i had had more time to stay there.

The location was wonderful, on the seafront with lovely views. Although there is no on-street parking directly outside the property there is a pay and display within easy walking distance if carrying luggage; I was able to park on a side-street within a few yards of the property. The room was warm and comfortable and it was good to have a small fridge too. The room was clean and the shower very good. Breakfast was good and served in a nice homely atmosphere. The price was reasonable and I regarded my stay as very good value for money.

Although not a problem for myself, this particular room was up a few flights of stairs, so anyone with mobility problems would be wise to make this clear when booking as there may be a more suitable room. I was very happy to have a single room with a double bed, but this meant that there might be limited wardrobe space for anyone using the room for a longer stay.

The Guesthouse is lovely and comfortable. The owner was very nice and welcoming. She made us delicious breakfast and everything worked out great. We had a family room upstairs, which was very comfortable and nice. I would recommend it to my friends and would come back any day!

It was a bit tricky to set the water temperature in the shower so that it is not burning hot. Best let the grownups look after it, before the children try to use the shower. The parking is a paid public parking lot for 3 pounds per day, but it is closeby.

Location is lovely, my room had a sea view. Decoration throughout was clean and fresh. Staff were lovely and made you feel very welcome. Breakfast was tasty and large portions. Car park five minute walk and cheap at £3 for all day parking. Location and transport great we stayed here as going to a gig at St James's Park in Newcastle and other guests were going to Stadium of Light in Sunderland for a gig. Lots of shops, pubs and of course Spanish City within walking distance.

The property was dog friendly and our room was at the front of the property with an outstanding sea view. The room was large, and spotlessly clean. The bed very comfy and en suite shower facilities great. They catered well for both vegetarian and meat eaters. The owner was lovely. The location was within easy range of a range of lovely restaurants and cafe's - and within easy reach of Newcastle itself. This was excellent value and we will definitely be staying again

Greeted by the really friendly owner who allowed me to wheel our bikes through to the outhouse for overnight storage, then showed us our very large family room (Double & two full size singles). There was plenty of space for the 4 of us and the dog, and the room was very clean and comfortable. The en-suite facilities were excellent and also very clean. We ate out in the evening, but breakfast the next day was amazing 2 of us had the full English, which was perefectly cooked and plenty of it, one had American pancakes with Maple syrup - and it was a huge stack of them, the other had toasted bagels with cream cheese - and again was almost overwhelmed!! We will definitely be back to visit again, as Whitley Bay looks beautiful, and sadly we didn't have much time to explore due to it being the end of our coast to coast bike ride and needing to get home.

Excellent cooked breakfast although there was quite a wait on our first day with only one person, cooking, serving etc Great location on sea front with easy access to town. Easy secure parking close by in car park for £3 covering 9am til 6pm, free outside these hours

Very small room at top of house, more suitable for 1 person,sea view visible through velux window. We were only there for 2 nights so it wasn't a problem
