Holiday Inn Express Mackinaw City, an IHG Hotel

I had a sudden change of circumstances due to weather. I only booked a room here for one night but I ended up staying 3 nights because an ice warning botched my plans for St Ignace. I was able to keep my room for 2 extra nights!! The location is very convenient and the views out my window were cool!! I could watch the traffic on and off the bridge. The hotel included breakfast was great! (See pics).

Some of the facilities/hallways are a little dated. The room doors for example, didn’t light up or click upon opening. There weren’t many places to eat in the area either but that was due to off season timing I’m sure. Overall it was an “adventurous” trip.

I chose this facility primarily for the shuttle that travels to and from Shepler's ferry. But, I was very happy to sleep in a clean, well-appointed room. The big breakfast that was provided was exceptional! It was a nice extra to find water or muffins at the front desk in the morning. Most of all, the dry sauna and hot tub were a highlight of our trip.

If I had to be picky, the breakfast hot trays didn't seem to keep the food hot enough. For myself, I would just warm it in the microwave in our room.

It was very clean. Breakfast was very good. The location was walking distance to the bridge, fort, lighthouse, food, shopping, and ferries to Mackinaw Island. We had a tire issue the day we arrived and there is a great auto shop just down the road. Our tire was fixed in less then 20 minutes!

One elevator is not sufficient. Having said that we were only on the second floor so taking the stairs was easy. I could see that being an issue for older travelers and parents trying to carry small children and all their things.

The whole experience went above expectations from check-in to check-out. The location is great, the hotel is clean, walking distance to town's interests and restaurants. The room was spacious and we had a great sunrise view! Breakfast was included and had all basic needs and someone cleaning the area all the time. The friendly staff was also a nice perk. I highly recommend this hotel.

The bed linens and bathroom towels were spotless and super clean. Bed was extremely comfortable. The room was very tidy, and it had all the amenities. It was very thoughtfully stocked, with mini fridge and Keurig. The bathroom was well lit, stocked up nice, and even the toilet paper was folded fancy. Again, spotless. I wasn't expecting much in the way of breakfast, it being off season and not many people up north, but was I very pleasantly surprised! The coffee downstairs was really good, with all the choices for sweetening. Breakfast bar was stellar, with sausage gravy & biscuits, eggs, meats, and pancake maker. The breakfast attendant was present, attentive, and constantly stocking supplies quietly and efficiently. The overall vibe of the place is just cozy and friendly; it's not like staying at a brand name place, it's very homey. The front desk attendants were cheerful and very helpful, and offered a list of restaurants that were open at this time of year. In addition to being spotless and clean, there is also a 10pm quiet time in place and everyone seemed to follow that. We had a restful night's sleep with no distractions whatsoever. All the really important points of staying in a hotel get an A+ from my family. Comfortable, cozy, clean, stocked, friendly, helpful.

Nitpicky really, but the hall walls were a bright yellow that isn't my taste, but I can see how they used it to brighten up the long corridors. And Holiday Inn prices are always a bit above the common price range for hotel stays. But we enjoyed our stay much more than letting those trivialities bother us.

TThe custodial staff was very friendly and very helpful with giving clean towels and toilet paper when requested. The complimentary breakfast was excellent and the breakfast staff was right on time with replenishing the breakfast items and cleaning the tables when a family was finished eating for the next family to sit and eat. The pool facility was clean and towels with stocked in the pool area to be used.

I did not like use booking.com They told us that booking was wrongfully giving people a room with queen beds for the rate advertised but the hotel said they would not. This problem between booking and the hotel meant we had a room with double beds, which are very small for three adults. The hotel was nice enough to get a larger room our second night but I will not use v Booking.com again

Kids loved the pool. Things in the pool area could have been updated though. The hotel is under construction now though so maybe the pool area is on the list of updates!

Tiles falling off the hot tub, sauna broken and rusting chairs around the pool. Pool was warm and clean though and the kids had a great time!

Breakfast was great, staff hustled and was VERY polite to make sure the hot food was constantly full. Clean facility. Good location/view of the Mighty Mac! Last hotel receptionist was very polite and responsive to me not getting my advance checkout bill.

When we put out our towels in the hallway per the hotel’s protocol we were shorted a hand towel and wash cloth. Went to the front desk and though I promptly received the requested clean ones the younger gal was indifferent and I received no apology. Room was a little damp despite the AC running.

Breakfast is very good. Attendant keeps the area spotless and the eggs, meats, etc. filled. I had oatmeal and it was the best I've ever eaten anywhere and that includes my own! Kudos to the cook!

The shower head in the room I had last week couldn't be adjusted. It sprayed a jet of water out of the middle. I'm short so I had to stand on the side of the tub to attempt to adjust the shower head.
