Summary - The staff, location, food, and facilities were excellent for a five-day getaway with my wife. Parking was free and nearby, and the chair lift to go up the mountain (Happo) for skiing/boarding is just a couple of steps away. Rentals were easy to do and the staff arranged all of the transportation and reservations for us. It was great having a hearty breakfast every morning, which was included in our stay. Plus, the overall lodge theme and decor were warm and inviting. Decor and Facilities - There are big windows with a great view of the mountains and nearby lift. Whenever our ski wear and equipment got wet, we would leave our gloves/helmet/boots, etc. in the dry room (with free lockers) and it was warm and ready to go for us in the morning. There was a free self-service washer/dryer with complimentary detergent as well which made our five-day stay a breeze. Restaurant - For breakfast and dinner, the hotel restaurant is AWESOME. We at there three nights and ordered the venison, chef salad, fondue, and pork knuckle. Everything was delicious. Breakfast was included and there was a pretty good selection of different western-style dishes (fresh toast, pancakes, English Breakfast, cereals, etc). They are generous with the portions and we always looked forward to the hot Gluhwein (hot spiced wine) right after we finished skiing. Staff - The staff is extremely friendly, but not overly so. They are there when you need them and can arrange rentals, reservations, and transportation for you. Location - It really doesn't get any better than being right next to the mountains. Many restaurants were within walking distance and others were just a 5-10 minute shuttle/car ride away. Rooms - The rooms were spacious and well decorated with good views no matter where you were. The bed was extremely comfortable after a long day of skiing.

There were only two very, very minor things. Bathrooms need an upgrade. They don't match the decor of the room and feel cramped. Also, humidifiers would be welcome as they tended to get pretty dry in the evenings. Again, these things were barely an inconvenience.

Breakfast was amazing, dinner was amazing, the staff and owners made you feel so welcome! It was the best ski trip/family vacation we've ever had!

Nothing.

Convenience to slopes. Comfortable, homely, welcoming. Unpretentious A touch of Bavarian hospitality in Japan. Brilliant owner couple Bernd and Naoko go out of their way!

The management company (Hakuba Hotel Group) were unethical in failing to notify us that our longstanding reservation would conflict with the alcohol fuelled Snow Machine festival - an event bringing a few thousand vomit spewing, foul mouthed, music thumping louts into town, doing nothing to enhance Australians’ reputation nor showing any respect for Japanese politeness. Should have come with a “Beware of the Bogans” warning🥲

Bernd and Naoko who own the hotel are the most welcoming of hosts. The Hotelis brilliantly located on the edge of the snowfield so truly ski in ski out. Accomodation is very good with a very good breakfast and the restaurant serves “Austrian” dishes in the evening (which are also very good). Close to a number of restaurants and a short walk to two major ski hire companies (which will deliver you skis to the hotel). There is an onsen at the Happo Hotel that residents have free access to. This is the place to stay in Hakuba.

Location, the staff, the bed, cleanliness, the dry room. The bed is extremely comfortable . Within walking distant to Happo bus terminal ; can hop in shuttle to the ski slopes . We are too early for the ski season, the slope just next to hotel wasn’t opened yet , but have own transfer to other resort. Front desk extremely helpful to book dinner reservation and booked taxi during our stay there.

1.The bathroom. Maybe the smallest bathroom that we have ever stayed in. 2. No elevator . Luckily we have a few young men, Remy and Joey at front desk to help us with all our luggages to third level. Not deal breaker .

The hotel is really nice. I love the view of the mountains and the fireworks every Saturday in winter. I think it is a wonderful that the hotel provides toboggans for kids that stay at the hotel. Nearly all staff go out of their way to assist wherever possible with information, transfers or ordering taxis.

There wasn’t really a bit that I didn’t like about the hotel. Perhaps the restaurant staff could advise last ordered when the kitchen is closing so that desserts can be ordered. We missed trying the chocolate fondue & creme brulee cheesecake.

Fantastic location, true ski in ski out. Included cooked breakfast was great to get started each day. Enjoyed sitting out the front with a beer, listening to some beats with friends in the late afternoon sun after a hard day of skiing! Our hosts Naoko and Bernd were amazing. I left my phone in a restaurant nearby on the last night but had to leave in the morning, so Naoko picked it up and had it sent by courier to my hotel in Tokyo the next day for free! Amazing customer service. Add to that great German Beers on tap! Thanks again Naoko and Bernd. Can't wait to come back.

Nothing. All good!

Our whole experience staying at the Marillen Hotel was nothing short of outstanding. The location is perfect - right at the base of Happo One mountain for true ski in, ski out. Nearest lift is about 50 metres away. The rooms were spacious and comfortable compared to comparable hotels and the restaurant served great German food and beer! But the best thing about the hotel was the service. From owners Bernd and Naoko all the way down to each staff member, we experienced just truly exceptional service during our whole stay. From getting tips on where the best snow would be the following day, to Bernd driving me to a different resort one day when I missed the bus, to Naoko sitting down with my brother who has food issues and discussing with him and the chef what he could eat and what they could prepare, nothing was too much for them. I have never experienced such genuinely friendly service as this. To Bernd and Naoko I can’t thank you enough for making my brothers birthday trip such a great and memorable experience. You should be proud of the fine business you run. To anyone else thinking of staying here, we booked our whole trip around when this hotel would be available based on a lot to research and reading all the reviews. You will not be disappointed staying here.

This is the hotel to stay at if you want to maximise your time on the mountain. You can enjoy a delicious breakfast with a great view of the ski slope, then strap on your gear, walk out the door, and ski down to the chairlift. No messing about with buses and transfers to the mountain each morning - you are already on it! The hotel itself was very clean and thoughtfully decorated. The owners and staff were lovely, and they will arrange a shuttle bus to and from the happo bus terminal should you need this. You can use the onsen at The Happo hotel for free, but there isn't one in the Marillen building. I'll definitely be coming back here the next time I come to Hakuba.

Bernd and Naoko were incredible hosts and went out of their way to make our entire family feel very special. Its clear to me that they love being in hospitality. The way they care for their guests, lead their staff team and run the hotel is very rare. This trip was the first one for our family where Cathy did not ski. Bernd was very helpful with recommending activities for her to undertake while the rest of us were skiing. I would not hesitate to recommend their hotel to any of my friends and family and I look forward to returning for another stay in the future. David, Cathy,

Update of TVs to Smart TVs would be nice but to be honest I didn't have time to watch it anyway 😉
