Best aspect of this hotel is that it is a small-chain and located one block from the pier on the Oporto side of the Douro River. Area is very walkable with all types of local (dockside and in-city) cafes and restaurants nearby. Plenty of sights and famous stops near the area too. Can catch 2 different hop-a-bus services or Douro river and bridge tours from nearby. Can catch water taxi to cross the Douro River to the Vila Nova de Gaia side of the Douro (where all the big wineries and river cruise ships are) for only 3 euros pp. Easy walk to the Luis bridge. If you opt for a river view suite it is worth it especially if you get the huge private balcony. Try 4th floor or 5th. I was on 4th floor river view. See my pics. I love and must have the Nespresso coffee machine this hotel provided in my room and the full-sized bath tub. Very professional and friendly, smiling reception staff here. They speak many languages and are very helpful.

Too bad there is so much construction going on in buildings, subway stations, and on the lower-level of the Luis Bridge nearby. Those active construction sites near the Carris Hotel Ribeira created irritating noises from sun-up to sundown. This is not the fault of the hotel just be aware construction will go on a few months after April 2022. Also be aware local seagulls are pervasive and make their noises practically non-stop. This is cute during daylight hours but I never knew seagulls squawked into the late night hours. I was unable to sleep muchless do so with open windows. I had to change my post-cruise hotel stay plan because of the construction and seagull noises in the Ribeira area. Stay at a hotel more distant from construction areas and away from vicinity of Douro River waterside.

Perfect location for sight seeing. Common areas in the hotel were modern and pleasant. Bar staff were pleasant and friendly. Bar food was lovely and reasonably priced. Breakfast was plentiful and varied so something for everyone.

The room was quite small and the bathroom was not very well equipped in terms of shower gel. One tiny bottle between 2 people for four nights. We had to ask for more at reception and we were offered shampoo or body milk!! Also, only four coat hangers. We did ask for more but never got them. Unfortunately there was a lot of black mould on the curtains at the bottom, probably caused by condensation or damp, but not pleasant and could do with a wash! Otherwise, the room was clean and comfortable.

The location was good and the rooms were clean and fairly comfortable.

The room was a bit small , the breakfast very expensive especially when you take into account the quality, the bacon and eggs, scrambled or fried and other hot dishes, were freezing cold.

Location was great! Easy access to waterfront and major attractions. Breakfast buffet offered many choices - bread was fresh - though it did not change much day to day.

No chest of drawers to put clothes in; insufficient hangars and no trouser pant hangars in particular. Closet is small given the above. Rooms also did not have washcloths in the bathroom. Note to self bring your own (or check with housekeeping to see if they have a guarded few on request.

My adult daughter and I booked a Junior Suite and mentioned upon booking that the stay was to celebrate my upcoming 60th birthday. The staff at check in were great especially Joanna and Candida-very friendly and efficient and we were thrilled with our lovely room with a great view of the river. A lovely touch was a beautiful cake in the room with a message for my upcoming birthday 😊 Breakfast was ok, toaster was quite slow but breakfast items were well stocked and staff very active. Rooms were spotless and location was superb, although right in the central tourist hub it was nice and quiet upon entering the hotel. Pre-ordering of a set price taxi for our departure was super efficient and pain free. Brilliant location for restaurants, bars and a short walk over the bridge to the Port houses. If you have done the Port houses, Douros River tours etc (which are great) and If you like walking I would recommend a walk to Foz (about an hour and a half walk) which is a nice small resort with s couple of lighthouses and some nice small beaches.

One of our side bedside lamps wasn’t working and the windows didn’t appear to open. I have to say that I didn’t bother reporting this as we were busy most of the time. air con worked very well.

Location & staff.

Our room was in the basement with not very much natural light.

The rooms were comfortable and a good size, the beds were also a good size, we got two single beds as it was me and a friend and were very happy! We also went in summer and the aircon worked perfectly. Being able to open the window in the room was also great - stayed at a couple of places where you could not get fresh air so this was very welcome. The breakfast was also very nice, the fresh fruit was delicious. I really liked the location - very close to the waterfront with good restaurants (with delicious seafood) and nice for a stroll, but also close to the sites if you are okay walking up steep hills. It was also very quiet despite being close to the busyness. My friend would have preferred we stayed a bit up the hill due to the heat with walking, but I would stay in the same place again if I went.

Great location in the historic center. Only one block from the waterfront and close to sites. Good place to stay if you're only in Porto for a short visit and want to see the main sites of the city. Spacious rooms. Friendly and helpful staff.

Take note that there is no place for curbside drop-off for you and your luggage in front of the hotel. A public parking lot is nearby, so you'll need to quickly hop out and get your luggage from the trunk while stopped at a stoplight. Hotel gym in neglected condition with two out of the five cable machines being unfortunately broken :-(

Room were great. Clean and comfortable.

Location is great with proximity to the major sights and the Ribera The only issue is it is right by a tunnel and cars honking and revving echos very loudly and feel like they are in the room with you, this is out of control of the hotel but be aware when booking that it can be very noisy. The room was also very cold, almost uncomfortabley so at night even though we were on the third floor- unsure if they had the ac high because Portugal was coming off a heat wave and the heat broke early that evening.

Awesome location. Nice hotel. Room was not large, but the location made up for it. Price could be an issue for some, but if you go on an off season or weekday, it will be worth it. Overall, I would spend more time looking around for a hotel, but I was in a hurry and booked this one. No regrets.

Parking is non-existent at this hotel. Street parking? Good luck. Very popular location near the river (4 minutes walk?). We parked about 15 minutes away in a large parking lot and walked up the hill to the hotel. So drop off your suitcases first, while your partner drives around the block to pick you up. Then walk back to the hotel after you park far away.
