Having not been to the Isle of Wight since primary school (over 30 years ago!), it was a bit of a lottery picking somewhere to stay. I can honestly say that The Avenue did not disappoint! Simon & Jonathan were incredibly welcoming and spent a lot of time with us when we first arrived sharing all their local knowledge of the island and gave us the lowdown on the best places to visit. Our room was on the first floor and was very comfortable, very quiet and very clean with plenty of storage space as well as in-room tea and coffee making facilities (mugs were changed every day). Breakfast was superb - a lovely selection of cereals, fresh fruit, yoghurts and fruit juices and the choice on the hot menu was second to none. The location of the B&B was very handy - it is well within walking distance of Shanklin town and in the next street is a very good Chinese restaurant. Shanklin itself has all the shops and eateries you could need/want and very good transport links to the rest of the island. Lots of off road parking - we always managed to get a space at the front of the B&B, however there was no shortage of on street parking too. A great selection of very good priced drinks and snacks available in the bar in the evenings too. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable holiday with exceptional hosts, thank you - see you next year guys!

Nothing - our stay was so good, we've already booked a return visit for next September!

Great hospitality and excellent breakfasts. Simon and Jonathan were great hosts and made us feel very welcome. Lots of information for exploring the island and a great selection of leaflets and maps

Room was good but the bed was rather lumpy and saggy on the right hand side. Bathroom was clean, but would benefit from a good steam clean round the shower area. Room was cleaned daily, but it seemed that this was just basic and not a full bed change or hoover. We were only staying for 5 nights so the room probably had a good weekly clean after the guests changeover.

We were really happy to stay there. Jonathan and Simon’s ( Son & dad) hospitality was exceptional and they guided us to find places according to our preferences. We could enjoy every minute of each day as most of the tourists’ places are close by. It’s definitely worth your money and breakfast was beyond the expectations. I definitely recommend this place and I am sure no one will regret being there.

Everything was ok.

The hosts are just so welcoming and attentive. Upon arrival they offered a drink and we sat outside having a chat and getting to know the area and hotel. We know the area really well. It was nice hearing their back story as well, added a personal touch. The room was lovely. Well decorated, spacious, with a nice bathroom. It had everything needed for the stay. The hotel itself has an honesty bar which is a nice touch and a lovely lounge with a beautiful leather L shaped sofa. It was so comfortable that we spent one nice on it chilling and doing some work. The bar prices are fair with a nice selection. Breakfast, just wow. I don't think I've personally ever had a better breakfast. Premium bacon and sausages with the most incredible scrambled egg. You'd be a fool not to try it. Unlike a lot of full English breakfasts, this one wasn't greasy or fatty. It was perfect. Location is perfect. A bus stop is about 2 minutes away, less than 5 to the train station, about 7 to the bus station, 5 to the cliff tops/beach, 7 to the town, and 10-15 to old Shanklin. I really can't complain about the location. As a couple that don't drive, it was perfect. Overall, it was the perfect stay. We'll definitely come back, even just for breakfast if they offered it!

The only thing I would fault, and really, it can't be helped and everyone is different, is the bed. This doesn't take anything from the rating at all. For us it was a bit too soft and towards the edge it feels like you're going to fall out, but we got used to it. We still slept well. We just like a firmer bed.

Everything was good. Simon and Jonathan (father and son) are efficient and brilliant hosts. We felt that every effort was made to ensure that our stay was the best it good be. The breakfast was lovely. On the days that I didn't fancy a cooked breakfast I simply had toast. Simon made the best fruit salad I have ever had. We requested an extra large room because we live in a small, gardenless flat. The room was huge and felt like pure luxury as did the garden and conservatory. The location was close to bus routes, rail station, beach, town centre and Old Town. This meant that travelling without a car was not at all problematic.

There was nothing that we disliked.

Jonathan and Simon were really welcoming and very kind with us. They gave us lots of information and recommendations about the island and were doing everything to make sure we felt comfortable and welcomed. The breakfast was really good and it was perfect portion sizes.

The only negative thing I would mention is the bed in our room: the mattress was very soft and not super comfortable. Anyway, this does not affect our 10/10 rating as everything else was really perfect!

We were greeted by Simon and Jonathan with a warm welcome. We chatted a while before being helped with the cases to our room. We had a drinks station and plenty of storage for our belongings. The shower was of a very good size with doors that opened fully, which was great considering I'm on the large side. The breakfast was fantastic.. Simon certainly knows how to fry a great egg!! The location was very good for a base to go visit Old Shanklin and other attractions.

The bed was a tad saggy so a bit uncomfortable, but OK once you got settled. The loo took a very long time to fill up to flush and the sink took a long time for water to drain away. Minor things that certainly didn't detract from a great stay.

My wife and I spent 3 nights in this guest house, here we had a good accommodation experience, the room was clean, and the bathroom was also clean, the location was a little close to everything. I would also like to say thank you to all the staff who were excellent, with good public relations, and the food was excellent, very fresh, everything cooked at the moment. from me and my wife thank you very much

The weththe weather was very rainy 🤪🤪🤪

This is our second time visiting the Island, and our second time staying here. Simon and his son Johnathan are delightful hosts, going above and beyond at every opportunity; if the cooked breakfasts, multiple coffees, and helpful tourism tips weren't enough, Simon even helped my fiancé to plan the perfect place to ask me to marry him. Whenever we go to the Island, there's no chance we'll stay anywhere else! Thank you!

Generally Simon and Jonathan go the extra mile to ensure guests’ stay is made as good as they can make it. What stood out? The welcome: a leisurely cup of tea while they get all the housekeeping details sorted Breakfast: just outstanding Local knowledge: Simon has a lifelong experience of the island so the master of any local detail Little extras: all reasonable requests entertained like non-standard tea bags for the bedroom

Not an issue for us but the house is as the house is, a property built some time ago long before any consideration for disability so if someone cannot cope with stairs The Avenue would not be for them
