We are having a family holiday doing the NC500 drive and really enjoyed our stay at The Royal Hotel Tain. The hotel is well priced, in a great position right in town and easy walk to shops & restaurants with parking on the premises . Rooms are comfortable & clean with a good bar offering well priced drinks and an excellent selection of whisky’s 😊. There is a restaurant on site for dinner but after a long day driving we went for a walk to stretch our legs & had dinner up the road but breakfast was very good smorgasbord selection of cereals, fruit, yogurt, toast tea & coffee etc with excellent freshly cooked options 👏👍. Would definitely stay again & definitely recommend as a good option for a stay.

Nothing honestly I believe Royal Tain hotel is a very good option, good team, traditional hotel offering good value in a geed location.

The Royal tain Hotel it's a quirky old world type victoriana style perfectly adequate for a short stay if your visiting the Highlands we has a room on the first floor double four poster which had lovely views out to the dornoch firth all fitted out with victoriana furniture so if you prefer that style perfect I must be honest and say the bed frame was very dusty but apart from that the room was clean and a great size there are other modern rooms at the rear of the property the breakfast is extensive and good the staff a friendly and polite friendly

Very welcoming staff, I felt like a royal, room has a good size, looks like in an old castle, everything very clean, no wishes unfulfilled, breakfast was freshly cooked after ordering it from a big choice and very delicious. You could also have cereals, bread, fruit, etc. I would definitely go there again!

The shower is really small and narrow, no place to put your shampoo and things and it’s too narrow to bend down. Space in the bathroom would have allowed a slightly bigger one I guess.

Ease of check-in. The friendliness of the staff. The location was central to our needs. Rooms were a good size. Very clean. Toiletries included. Fluffy towels. Hot shower with good water pressure. Conplimentary water, tea, coffee & biscuits in the room. Breakfast was delicious. Plenty of parking. Definitely recommend.

Rooms were very cold. The heaters didn't seem to work. I didn't realise this until I had returned from a night out - very early in the morning. Although I'm sure if I'd noticed this earlier and asked the staff, they would have rectified it for me. I found a blanket to put over the top of the duvet, which helped a little.

A huge room (the Boardroom) with an excellent modern bathroom, beautifully equipped with high class bath and shower (but no toilet roll holder!)

No upstairs CH, so reliant only on fan and convector heaters; just about OK this time of year but in winter could be pretty cold? Some really good modernisation has been done, but much of the hotel still feels like urgent work needs to be carried out (e.g. windows, curtains) and it’s all a bit chaotic and cluttered, e.g our room had ten chairs in it (enough for a Board meeting!), totally unnecessary.

It’s location. The breakfast was fine but there was also a lot of choice. The staff are friendly.

The room could be doing with being updated. The remote control was held together with tape. The room door didn’t close properly there was a gap between the door and frame. The walls in the bathroom next to the toilet had a hole in it and there was a big stain also on the same wall. But for an overnight stay it was fine. It was a bit noisy with other guests just banging their room doors when going in their rooms instead of trying to close them quietly as to not disturb other guests.

Hospitality was excellent, and staff couldn't do enough to make stay more pleasant. Breakfast was one of the best I have had had, with great selection, and very good cooked breakfast offered. Evening meals were of good quality, and generous portions, and attentive staff. Hotel was centrally located in charming small town. Hotel was well presented.

Bedroom was a little dated and "tired". Everything was fine and very clean, with no issues, but could have been a little bit better maintained.

Everything. We had an upgrade to a 4 poster bed room. Jim the host was amazing. Extremely courteous and nothing was too much trouble. A5* stay. Tain itself is picturesque. Amazing bakery next door too. The food was superb and a range of choices for a hot breakfast. Everything was top notch and free parking.😁Fully stocked bar with an amazing range of choices

Leaving.😔

All staff were very welcoming and attentive. They even cooked a meal for me after the chef had left for the night. The restaurant waiter was a very courteous and efficient young man. The breakfast was huge and served quickly.

There is no lift in the hotel. Had to climb two flights of stairs with luggage. The bathroom had a dead insect in the bath and mould on the ceiling.

The hotel itself is utterly charming! Superbly located and quiet. I have read reviews that say it’s dated - it is a little bit but that merely adds to its charm! My double room was super clean, comfortable and well equipped! The food was lovely. However the most outstanding thing about this great hotel is the family who run it! Honestly the welcome is home from home. Nothing is too much trouble. Genuinely the Royal Hotel is worth the stay and we will be back often!

Nothing!
