Location, good vibes, cafe that also serves good food on the premise, very clean, very welcoming. This was my third stay in the hostel and it’s my to-go place when in Portland.

Loved our stay. Welcoming, clean, quiet, no crazy guests, cheap parking for 3 days, everything we needed was there. Easy leafy neighborhood location just off the highway and once parked we walked everywhere. Best bagels I’ve had in ages, great coffee, tea, food, live music, walking tours, close to everything we wanted to see. Bathroom was shared but spotless, with lots of hot water, no lineups in our guest house. They deserve their place in the best of the best of hostels worldwide. Not your mamas noisy, drafty, messy hostel of decades ago.

This is one of the best hostels I’ve stayed in, which is saying a lot since I stay in hostels nearly full time! The rooms were kept very clean, the beds are very comfortable, there are ample bathrooms in the hallway, and good sized lockers and many hooks to hang things in the room. The cafe on site is very useful and reasonably priced. The included breakfast of a bagel and a drink is great too! Every single member of the hostel and the cafe staff was so friendly! They really make a difference in the overall experience.
The only thing I can say against this amazing hostel is the laundry facilities are very lacking for a hostel of this size. Only one dryer and one washer are working properly and the timing of both makes it very difficult to do laundry. Unless you have a few hours to potentially dedicate to doing laundry, I recommend skipping doing your washing here.

We rented the queen room on the second floor facing the street. The view was delightful and the room was clean. The bed was soft and it had enough covers to keep us nice and warm. There were two bathrooms with showers on our floor as well as a bathroom without a shower all were regularly cleaned and towels restocked. The kitchen and dining areas were fully stocked with appliances to assist in cooking which we did multiple times. The area we needed to go to every day was just a few short blocks away so it was excellently located for our needs as well. The photo contains the view from the rooms window.
The room was quite chilly the first night, but we were given a space heater after asking at the desk. Sometimes the bathrooms or kitchen appliances were all busy which was a little frustrating but not unexpected as its the nature of a hostel.

This hostel is bright, clean, cute, with lots of info and helpful staff. I loved that they were able to allow me to check in earlier than anticipated when my bus into town arrived early - that exceeded my expectations. The walk there from where my Flix bus dropped me off was super easy and comfortable to get to. They were very accommodating as I travel now with a CPAP for my sleep apnea. The bed was comfy. Let me borrow a towel for free which was a nice perk. I enjoyed cooking and eating in the kitchen. The hostel is located in a pedestrian friendly location, easily accessible to bars, restaurants, public transportation and other points of interest. I mostly walked everywhere, which was fantastic. Breakfast included a bagel and a drink (that Everything bagel is AMAZING). I loved the patio in the rear. Overall, pretty good value for the price.
One of the men's shower pressure was quite disappointing. I understand they're conserving energy, which is great, but I didn't know that it would be that extreme. All in all, nothing horrific :)

I loved the private bathrooms and HOT water - the rug was nice - towel provided, free to borrow as well as the lock. The locker was plenty big enough for my carryon and backpack - could've fit a bit more even. The sheets were clean, everywhere was clean really and it was a nice area of town - reminded me of Greek row of a college. I liked the comforter provided and the pillows were decent, even almost nice - best I have had lately. It was quiet - the staff was super nice and it was great that they were understanding and accommodating about my request for a bottom bunk due to fear of heights. The breakfast was a nice tea and bagel with topping like PB&J and / or butter or cream cheese. It was plenty for me and a nice treat. I would happily stay here again.
My roommate could have been a bit more considerate but that has nothing to do with the hostel - everything they did and provide was GREAT.

People - staff and visitors. Dude shoutout to my friend Matt from Jersey (not new Jersey) — that’s how he introduced himself. The facility is new! Clean! And the people? Top tier customer service! And the cafe??? Chef’s kiss! The bafwoom is clean like cleaner than your conscience. I hope if someone from the hostel reads this - they would message me in instagram. I didn’t get to say goodbye due to my early check out. My ig is itsajc1! Plssss! I want to be friends you idiots. Sorry im aggressive. Im just passionate. K bye. Its a 100/10! Yes. That great!
If you read what I like - this question is irrelevant.

The breakfast was your choice of juice or coffee, and a bagel (which were locally made and quite delicious) with options of cream cheese, peanut butter, jelly or regular butter. Plus, it was served until 11 AM, which is a bonus! They had a restaurant/cafe on site, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus drinks (open until 11PM every day) Food was tasty, maybe a little overpriced, but very convenient. You also had 24 hour access to a well stocked kitchen, so if you wanted to make your own meals that was an option too. Plus a washer and dryer ($2 each per load). Towels are free. No toiletries are provided, but they had everything for sale at the front desk, as well as postcards, stamps, and reusable water bottles. There was a filtered water station for refilling as well. Rooms were clean and cozy, we stayed in one of the guest houses right next door. So while bathrooms were shared, there were 4 bathrooms for 6 rooms, so you never had to wait. They had two fenced in outdoor areas with a smoking section that was away from everyone else. One was accessible to the public while the cafe was open, the other was for hostel guests only. The patio closed at 10 (I think) but you could access the smoking section all night, which felt very safe. The neighborhood seemed safe, had lots of food and coffee options, as well as a few grocery stores. It was about a 7 minute walk from the nearest train stop, but there were buses all around. Overall a fantastic experience! The staff was great, they were super helpful and gave us a tour of the grounds during check in. The other guests were polite, and open to conversation if you were interested.
There were mini kitchens in the guesthouses. There was a fridge but no way to heat up your leftovers. i didn't mind walking to the main kitchen to microwave something, but it would be huge if there was a microwave in the guest houses as well.

Everything. I stay here every time I'm in Portland and I adore it. The rooms and facilities are great (quirky, super clean and lots of little nooks to work or relax in), excellent planned activities in the evenings (even folk music some nights!), and I think best of all, the staff are simply wonderful. Kind, helpful, just the best. The perfect mix of warm and professional. It's my home away from home whenever I'm in Portland. If you're a soccer fan it's also a must-stay. I was there during the women's world cup one time and the amazing staff turned the big screen tv on for me to watch the semi finals at 3am! I think they'd try their hardest to accommodate almost any request to have soccer matches played on their big screen. It's also really diversity-welcoming. Always a nice mix of folks of diverse backgrounds and ages. Also really queer-friendly (I'm lesbian and feel super welcome - I also really appreciate their big pride flag!). I travel a lot for work and I never feel out of place here as someone who isn't a typical backpacker- while there are back packers in their 20s enjoying the place, there are also families and other older folks (like me!) doing a bit of work on laptops. The vibe seems to always be an ideal mixture of lively yet relaxed/calm. Setting-wise, it's a great location. The hostel is in a leafy quiet suburb but close to the centre of town. Trader Joe's is just two blocks away and it's 15 min walk (maybe less?) to famous Powell's Books and the CBD. Also rose gardens and great thrift stores nearby. The Amtrak train station is an easy 15 min walk. A very clever move by the hostel owners is to have a cafe attached to the hostel that welcomes the public, so there's a real feeling that you're part of Portland community there (and locals also pop in for the folk music nights and children's music afternoons).
Nothing, it's pretty much perfect

The staff was friendly and informative. The place was clean and had thoughtful amenities and activities.
I understand that we were in an older building, but every time anyone opened another door in the facility, the window in the room next to the bed would rattle. The same said window was adjacent from the dining area/fire pit and music was being played loud enough at 7 am to wake us and could easily tell what the songs were without the need to open the window. Mind you they weren’t annoying or offensive songs, but after not being able to sleep well throughout the night due to the window rattling with great frequency, it just made the ability to get rest all the more challenging.
