Beautiful, historic, 4 story walk up guaranteed to exceed your expectations. Each room is named after a founding member of the New Century Guild which was an organization geared towards empowering and supporting working women in the late 1800s. We stayed in the "Gabrielle". The rooms are very well equipped, gorgeous and incredibly comfortable. I just loved the snacks left daily as well as the ground coffee. Communication is done through text. You will not see staff in the hotel as they operate by "invisible service". Our room was made up daily per our request and you can even request turn down service. There are taps on the first and third floors with filtered water as well as sparkling water. The first floor has a lovely lounge area where old crooner standards can be heard from a small radio that perfectly complements the romance of the entire building. For those that may have a difficult time carrying their suitcases up the steps, there's a dumbwaiter that can transport them magically. This property has a heart as big as the city itself.
This hotel is in a very lively area which is the main reason we chose it. They provide ear plugs as there is a lot of activity in the evenings. The Cauldron next door gets hopping pretty early on Sundays so use those ear plugs.

Great location in the middle of everything. We arrived close to midnight and there were still loads of people around, so felt very safe (and we only had to walk a block to find a post-midnight dinner). The room was both beautiful/historic-feeling and comfortable, which is a hard balance to strike. Contactless front desk is kind of weird, but worked well; they were very responsive (and tbh it was nice not to have to talk to anyone when checking in at midnight after a four-hour flight delay!) Convenient to store bags here after checkout. LOVED the water refills, especially having one up on the third floor to save the trip down the stairs.
Water pressure in the shower is hilariously awful (but the bathroom is so gorgeous that I barely cared) -- that's the only reason it's a 9/10. Our flight out was in the evening, so we ended up hanging out in the lobby parlor for an hour or so -- it would be great if there were a powder room available.

Beautiful, clean, and comfortable rooms with a very chill communal lounge (I love the tap seltzer), all thoughtfully decorated and well appointed. The etched glass, swing-top bottles and tumblers were among the many nice touches, along with in-room Chemex and gooseneck electric kettle. The keyless entry and “invisible concierge” made the whole thing very intimate and seamless (when I needed extra amenities in the room, I texted and they arrived in minutes). Amazing neighborhood with awesome food, coffee, and drinks walkably close (and yet, still very quiet in the room at night).

gorgeous, clean, and stylish and interesting property! appreciated the dumb waiter to bring our heavy bags up to our floor!
we loved everything! I would have liked some fresh coffee or tea in the beautiful common room on the first floor, but that is just an idea and a bonus.

Excellent location in a historical building, which is kept right to the historical epoch it represents and at the same time has all the modern facilities we needed. The common room was very cosy. The availability of the water to fill the bottles, small treats in the room, ability to store the luggage without any problems... We enjoyed all the aspects of our stay. We had two rooms for 2 and 3 people - both were excellent,
The instruction could have been more clear on the option to store the luggage before the check in, but we figured it out with the help of the agent that was very responsive

The hotel has a rich history, which they poured into the decor and amenities. It's centrally located in a wonderful neighborhood with many great restaurants nearby. We could walk to most of the places we wanted to visit. The staff, especially the manager, were wonderful and very accommodating. It was very convenient not to have to check in at a front desk, and just be able to go straight to our room. We had no issues with using the codes.
When we arrived, there was a used napkin with a lipstick print on top of the dresser and the minifridge desperately needed to be defrosted. We could still use some of the fridge, but not the freezer since a huge chunk of frost/ice covered most of it. We had no other issues during our stay.

The building, its history, the decor, the attention to details, and its location relative to our plans were GREAT. We rode bikes on the Schuylkill river and walked to dinner at Amada. The hotel is only 1.1 miles from the river trailhead (with dedicated bike lanes to get you there and back) and we were only 1 mile from Amada. The person-less check in was surprisingly easy and the text communications were VERY thorough. We also used the parking garage closest to the hotel and that couldn't have been more convenient.
The lighting in the room (and the entire first floor) was a little dim. While we requested a king size deluxe room, we had to change to a queen room on the first floor to accommodate our bicycles. The room worked out great for bicycle storage in our room, but I would have preferred a larger bed, a brighter room, and one that is on a higher floor. It's pretty noisy sleeping ground level on 13th St. in Philly -- even with the sound machine the hotel provides.

Great location, hotel is drop dead gorgeous, room was beautiful and comfortable, great hotel amenities including sparkling water on tap, free snacks and drinks. free coffee was delicious. Didn't see other hotel guests around so our stay was very quiet. Bathroom was very nice with plenty of towels and nice smelling toiletries. Overall experience felt very chic and cool.
No elevator so you have to be comfortable with stairs. No in-person staff so you have to text the hotel (not convenient if you're an international guest or don't really communicate that way). Shower water pressure was dismal. Room wasn't very clean as it felt like it hadn't been vacuumed in months particularly by the night stands. We requested housekeeping one day and the hotel staff confirmed but no one came to tidy up the room. Felt a bit like staying at an Airbnb in that sense as I had to throw out my own trash (very annoying).

I'm usually not a fan of "Contactless" hotels. But I have to say, the owners of this hotel do it right. They were in touch with me daily from a few days before my stay until the last moment of my stay. They were responsive and very kind. The building has a fascinating history and has many original features intact, giving it a great authentic feel. The location, 5 blocks south of Rittenhouse Square, was ideal. Once I parked the car, I met up with my friends, and we walked everywhere. My room was spacious, and the bathroom was big and beautifully tiled with high-quality faucets and a shower. The towels were fluffy, soft, and absorbent. The amenities, soaps, and lotions, were also high-quality The bed and pillows were very comfortable.
My room was painted a moody dark shade, although it was otherwise furnished with good-looking items. The lighting over the kitchenette area didn't shine down onto the counter, so I found it hard to discern the instructions on operating the coffee maker.
