I would highly recommend this hotel. We traveled down for my daughters 6th Birthday, when booking I did put a note asking if they could do something a little special on arrival if possible ( I did say it was fine if not) but they went above and beyond. We’d come to our hotel room full of balloons & 2 big slices of chocolate brownies still warm with chocolate sauce spelt happy birthday at no extra cost 🥰 She was absolutely over the moon!! It made our experience even more special. Staff were lovely and friendly, they recommended us some nice restaurants near by. It’s in a nice location just a 10 minute walk to all restaurants. Great place to stay, I’ll definitely be coming back 😊

Nice hotel, always looked clean and tidy, breakfast area was fine, as was the breakfast. Never used the bar and had no need to see reception, only when checking in and checking out. People on duty were very friendly and helpful. The room was ok no real view out of the window but didn’t bother me, big comfortable bed, plenty of tea and coffee.

Only 2 negatives, the wardrobe had so much stuff in it (ironing board, iron and the safe) I could not hang a shirt without it resting on the safe. The shower in the bathroom was in a poor state, rust and paint peeling around the bottom of the tray. The sink area was though in a good condition.

Great location, the air con in the room actually worked which was great with how warm it was this weekend. We’ve already booked for later in the year because of how convenient it was.

The phone in the room was broken when we arrived, the socket in the wall was broken but we didn’t think to mention it as we didn’t think we’d need it; however at 0100 on our last night we were woken up by the room next to us playing music ridiculously loudly, shouting and having very loud… well… ***. This is when the phone would’ve been super helpful. Luckily we were able to ring reception off our own phones and someone came up straightaway, they turned the music off but the loud noises carried on for at least another hour. That did ruin our last night a bit but it can’t be helped.

The lobby looked amazing - decor was brilliant. All the staff were very helpful and talked to our children lots. Breakfast was outstanding, absolutely brilliant. We all enjoyed it so much. Loads of options and staff can’t do enough for you. Location is great couple of minutes walk in a straight line and you are in the centre of York/ by the shambles. We loved the kids area in the seating bit downstairs by the bar. The children loved sitting and playing whilst we had a glass of wine. We accidentally ended up with some food completely free of charge which also tasted great. Room was clean but because we had a double bed and then a double pull out sofa we were very restricted in terms of space. A few bits of wear and tear showing in the room but nothing that a lick of paint couldn’t fix. On the whole it completely served its purpose and we throughly enjoyed our stay. Definitely will be staying again.

This is the second time we have stayed and again, all of the staff were friendly and happy to help. The hotel always seems to be decorated for the holidays (this time, valentine's). Breakfasts are brilliant - no way anyone is leaving with a hungry tummy! Excellent base for wandering around York. Hotel is a 10 minute walk from the city centre and the attractions. It's now our go to hotel for a break in York.

Only thing to watch out for is parking. Peel st car park behind hotel is super busy. If full come back down the way you came and turn left on to the main road that the hotel is on and drive on a minute or so and a multi storey car park is on your left

The location of the hotel was great. Very close to all of the attractions, with an estimated 5 min walk to many attractions and at the most 12 mins for others. The staff were absolutely lovely, professional, warm and kind. Always had a smile and always said Hi when we popped back to the hotel to refresh.

The room was smaller than expected and was ok, nice and clean, however, I was a little disappointed with the cleanliness of the bathroom on the first day/night. The second day was different, and the bathroom was cleaned to a better standard. The air conditioning is on a timer and goes off at night in order to do their bit towards being greener, which is great, but we absolutely baked the first night as a result. A quick pop to reception the next morning and they altered things which allowed the air conditioning to stay on throughout the whole night the following evening.

The staff were helpful and friendly The toiletries and tea and coffee facilities were good The breakfast had a good choice of hot and cold options We got a table straight away at breakfast time We were given our room early when we arrived to leave our luggage The Easter themed decorations around the hotel.

It was way too hot during the night. We had to open the window to cool down. The space was very cramped with the sofa bed opened out. The use of tinned mushrooms at breakfast. Fresh would be much better.

Room was clean and comfortable

I don’t like the idea of taking £30.00 off me then for me to still wait for it returned. Some people can’t afford an extra £ 30.00 already on top of the fee for staying at the premises. For that reason I will not be booking in the near future at holiday inn.

Great welcome from lovely, friendly staff. Hotel is in a good spot, only a 5 minute walk from The Shambles. Tesco Express only a minute up the road. Breakfast good quality and loads of choice. Nice room, comfortable beds. Hairdryer, iron etc.

The room got pretty warm in the night and couldn't figure out how to work the AC. We were on the ground floor so was a bit noisy if the window was open. The luggage storage was not secure, you just stowed your own. Anyone could have taken your stuff out of it. Due to the sofa bed being opened up it was right up flush to the side of the double bed so not easy to get in and out of one side of the bed!
