Palace Hotel Lake Como

We had an amazing time in Como, the location is great, rooms are clean and decent sizes.

Overall we had a good stay but to be honest we were a bit surprise and desappointed with the fact that the staff was not welcoming at all, cold attitude and would not make any effort to accommodate any request whatsoever.

The hotel bar didn’t seem to want to serve you! we came back to the hotel after dinner for drinks and was told the bar would close at 11pm. We understood this but did not realise that at 11pm they would ask us to leave the bar and drink our drinks on reception. on another occasion, we tried to get a drink before dinner and was told to go to the garden bar (which we didn’t think was open as the signs said it only opened at the weekend). The bar just didn’t seem to want to serve you!

This is a first class hotel in a superb location, only about 200 yards from the ticket office for buying tickets for the boats to travel around the lake. It is also next to the centre of Como with all the main areas very close by e.g. the Duomo, the funicular, shops and restaurants etc. There is also a very pleasant walk around the lake, next to the harbour, just across the road from the hotel. Breakfast is excellent, with plenty of choice. Our room had an excellent view over the lake but this costs extra. The room has a 'proper' shower, rather than a shower over the bath.

The room could have been a little bigger. We didnt eat in the restaurant in the evening because we thought other nearby restarants offfered a better value and choice.

Nothing to dislike

The majority of staff were super friendly and helpful (especially the lady from breakfast service), the location is great too and is comfortable and cozy.

More choices at the breakfast bar perhaps as staying for a longer period of time it becomes somewhat boring, and having lactose free options incl other special needs

What we liked most was the incredible assistance received by the front desk staff, especially Anna. She managed to arrange a boat tour on very little notice, orchestrated a quiet conference space with all converters for an urgent business meeting, reschedule covid tests when we were delayed and did it all with tremendous efficiency and a smile. Staff deserve a 10 rating. Facilities were a little dated for the price and a pool would be ideal but overall a lovely stay.

Would appreciate designated non smoking areas to sit outdoors. Cigarette smoke was overwhelming and we are non smokers.

location was great plus close to train station, hotel was clean and very quiet, Anna did a great job recommending restaurants and boat tour

elevator was very small.

Room was cold at night but nothing extra blan kets didnt fix--would have liked drawers--otherwise great!!

For a first-timer to Lake Como, the location was excellent. Right across the street from the ferry ticket booth, walking distance to shops and the Funicular that goes up the mountain, and a great little garden cafe/bar that is part of the hotel. We had a lake front room and the view was great. We took a cab from the train station, but walked to the station on the trip out and it was fine.

They are currently doing some construction on the main promenade outside the hotel, along the lake, which took away some of the view (big crane) and ambience. It appears that they are widening the walking area along the water, which will be amazing once they are done.

Loved the location; the mattress was very comfortable. I had lunch on the terrace in the restaurant and the food was excellent and beautifully presented on the plate. The servers were very polite and professional.

The room was smaller than I was expecting and the bathroom looked NOTHING like the photos for the room I reserved. The value for the money just wasn't there for me.
