The Countryman Hotel

We liked the willingness of the landlord to add items to the breakfast menu and of the landlord, landlady and staff to address the guests needs. Bus service through Camelford connects to Bude on down the northern Cornish coast to Newquay. When we left we took a bus from Camelford to Bodmin and changed there to another bus to Bodmin Parkway Railway Station. We would all be happy to go back to the Countryman.

I cannot think of anything I did not like about the hotel. There was the fire in the pub about 100 yards or so down the road. This happened the day after we arrived. Since the equipment brought in to fight the fire filled the main road ... The only other thing about this part of the trip that caused comment - my wife's comment that 'Everywhere you go in Cornwall you either go straight up or straight down.'

Bed was nice and quite firm which was good for my back, the shower was very nice, both toilet and shower were kept very clean. Breakfast was good with a cooked option and cereals. It was good to have car parking although if it were busy I would imagine the car park would be full very quickly as it is quite small.

There could be better outside lighting to the car park and steps from the car park round to the front door - I returned after dark on a few evenings and whilst there is one outside light this is flickering. More than one bath towel would have been beneficial as they didn’t dry between uses when showering morning and evening.

It was so warm and welcoming nothing was to much amazing owners my daughter is nearly 20 and autistic and doesn't talk to many people but she wanted to take the owners home and leave her dad in exchange 🤣 she felt so comfortable with them they were amazing.

There's nothing I didn't like I have told all my friends and family about the countryman and would recommend to everyone.

I like how good placed it is to get anywhere around Cornwall if you are there for a visit to explore. How easy the owners go extra mile to adapt to your needs and absolutely loved it how much they care!!! It felt safe and homily. There are always smiles there. I went through an issue while there and they offered me anything to help,even out of my booking date and time. Can't recommend it enough and for sure I will be back!

Both of the hosts were super friendly and helpfull. We even disturbed them in their dinner and they stopped eating to help us out. Everything in the Countryman Hotel was super clean, it smelled very fresh and give us a real feel of a cosy home. The room was perfect. It was clean, spacious, quiet and the bed was also firm in a good way. The breakfast was super. We got the full English Breakfast, but with some adjustments. We all agreed not to waste food.

Hotel/room/bathrooms were clean and tidy, excellent photocell lights in corridors and stairs, new windows easy to open and shut, very comfortable bed, tea and coffee available to make in the room.

First day at breakfast time was so quiet in the dining room, lack of communication between staff - they ask the same question when ordering breakfast, a bit confusing with location of sitting by table, poor menu - choices less, poor parking management.

Lovely guest house very clean and comfortable room. Hosts were very friendly and the breakfast really tasty. I would recommend this hotel to others.

I got lost on route and arrived late to which I felt disturbed the hosts. Better signage on the main road highlighting turn for hotel would be helpful. No TV signal to some channels.

Our pre arrival information was comprehensive. We knew the check in and checkout times. I phoned a few days before we arrived to ask about places to eat nearby and Susie was very helpful. The hotel is being refurbished and is freshly painted. Our room was comfortable, warm and clean. The bed was comfortable. The shower was hot and very good pressure despite being on the top floor. Breakfast was lovely, with lots of tea, coffee and juice. We were offered suggestions of places to visit in the area.

Nothing to dislike

Liked the many improvements they've obviously made to the building, the welcome and high standards of service and breakfast. Oh, and the value of their pricing. There are certain other establishments could learn to invest back into their businesses like the Countryman has.

Not going to put anything here. Unlike some moaners.

The breakfasts were excellent. The service was very good. The rooms were comfortable. The location was good.

The stairs were a bit of a challenge and should be a consideration for elderly people and those with mobility issues. We also would prefer more privacy with the restroom facilities.
