The hotel is ideally located in Gullane. If you're playing any of the East Lothian courses, this is a good home base. You can literally walk to the Gullane courses. This was my first time staying here, but it seems like the hotel has been redone recently. The room was very nice and the bathroom has all modern fixtures/shower, etc. The hotel has a nice bar in the front of the hotel (and patio) and large restaurant and patio in the back. We enjoyed hanging out in the bar after rounds of golf and the staff was very friendly and professional. There is street parking in front of the hotel and a large car park in back. I will definitely stay here again when I come to East Lothian.

The situation was excellent and we enjoyed the view from our window overlooking the children’s golf course. It was very convenient for our day at the Scottish Open. Our bed was very comfortable and we had all we needed in our room.

We would have liked to have been offered yogurt and fruit with our cereal rather than paying £3.00 extra. This is something we have had on offer on all the hotels and bed and breakfasts we have been to. Even Premier Inn! Our bedroom had a strong smell of cleaning spray or room spray which I disliked and could have been offensive to someone with allergies.

We stayed in the Lookout room which was lovely, bed comfy and bathroom huge! No complaints at all. Hotel was lovely, staff really nice and approachable, breakfast really delicious (and catered to a coeliac without issue which always makes things for us, slightly easier) and public areas looked really nice (restaurant closed for our stay but bar open). Parking area at back of hotel or plenty of street parking available. We tended to be out most of the day (bit of golf etc) - perfect location for golfers!!! No complaints and would definitely stay again.

Unfortunately, hotel restaurant closed on the days we stayed (Monday and Tuesday)- recognise that in quieter winter months this is similar across lots of accomodations so overall not really a negative but more to be aware of when booking. Other eateries available in village/short drive away although some also have same closing days so be aware of this - check ahead.

Centrally situated overlooking the golf course in Gullane, the Watchman was a great choice. Close to local amenities and a great location for visiting golfers, it was a very welcoming Hotel. Recently refurbished, the bedrooms were comfy and clean and the restaurant and breakfast “garden room” pleasant and inviting. The standard of food and service was exceptional and very reasonably priced. This was our first time staying here, but we wouldn’t hesitate to visit again. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, which was very relaxing.

Breakfast choice was fabulous and very tasty. View from the room was very nice too. Comfy and good sized bed. Food in the restaurant was very good too.

I booked through booking.com so the price was extremely high, probably expected a bigger room perhaps with a couch. Tea/coffee but no biscuits which was disappointing for the price. When we arrived we were advised to go.up.to reception to check on. We both had overnight bags and, as there was no lift, had to carry them upstairs. We are both in our 60's and although relatively fit, thought an offer to carry our bags might have been a nice gesture.

The watchman was a stunning spot with lovely views of the sunset over Gullane golf courses. Plenty of great food nearby and in the hotel restaurant - the old clubhouse along the road was also yummy. The staff were very helpful when I was departing at 0610 in the morning, making sure the chefs could do something early for me to fuel me for my day! Overall the experience was positive and I hope I can visit again someday when I have more time to enjoy everything.

The room was very warm but I think this was a rare summer's day with the sun beating down on our room.

Greeted with a smile and accommodating people I was made to feel welcome straight away, I had the impression all those working there were all friends and worked together to pass this friendship forward to their guests. Everyone had time to do their job, there was no rushing around, I didn't have to wait for anything and everyone was pleasant and friendly.

I am sitting here wondering what I thought could be improved and the only people who could answer that would be those who work there, there must be some things they notice or feel could do with some attention as there always is with any business, but for my part I could see nothing.

We booked the ground floor accessible bedroom and it was excellent. The bathroom is a huge wet room with underfloor heating. The bedroom is well equipped with two comfortable single beds, kettle, Sky TV etc. Lounge bar is bright and the dining room also well fitted out. Breakfast was in the Garden Room, impressive furniture & fittings with stunning views through floor to ceiling glass doors. Good selection of hot and cold food, well prepared and presented. We dined in the restaurant one evening and the food was very good with large portions (too much for us!). The staff were faultless. From a great welcome, friendly, efficient bar and restaurant service, to a source of useful information on local attractions. It is obvious that there has been a great deal of investment in the building and the staff in recent times.

The wet room (bathroom) could benefit from a chair for use when showering.

We stayed in the Lookout and the room was lovely - comfy bed, great views and an amazing bath. Really helpful and friendly staff, and the food and drinks were good too.

The only things which I think would make it even better are: a fridge/mini bar; dressing gowns; a new remote for the tv (the current one is old and clunky to change channels); a slightly later check-out time (say 11:00am rather than 10:30am).

Very nice bar area and restaurant . Room was fine with a lovely view over the golf course. Bed was comfortable, shower good. Location is perfect for walk to the shops and over to beach. Want to return in summer and sit in the lovely garden - too cold in February! Breakfast nice.

Room was a bit cold when we arrived but the heating did come on soon afterwards. Would have liked some shelving to put toiletries on in bathroom
