I loved this old place. Built by French prisoners from the Napoleonic Wars in 1806! Quirky and cool. The staff were the real asset - a young man with an American twang to his accent served dinner and was very polite and chatty - I didn’t have any cash - touring on a motorcycle - so no tip - I am truly sorry 😢. The star of the show is Laura on the front desk. Possibly the most charming human being I’ve ever met. So Bill, Elon or Jeff if you’re looking for someone front of house - Laura at the Tontine Inn at Peebles is the one to hire.

Very central, in the middle of the High Street. really old building (built 1808) but all rooms modernised. bathroom was huge, very modern and well appointed . breakfast was great and the receptionist who was on when we checked in and out was lovely and very helpful

We were up on the very top floor (the attic). and it was the hottest weekend of the year so far so the room was very hot. we had to sleep with all the windows and curtains wide open - although the view out the window from the top floor was amazing to wake up to and no one was overlooking us so we didn’t feel it was a hardship. being an old property there was no fridge/mini bar in the room and no bottled water, so take your own if you get thirsty during the night.

Dinner and breakfast were yummy, fresh and well presented. Staff very friendly and approachable, hotel quite historic but very comfortable. Using as transit location to borderland area, but would love to return another time.

A bit tricky unloading luggage from car- had to use disabled parking space in front of hotel. Previously you could perhaps drive in to hotel front & unload.

The staff were wonderfully helpful - they moved rooms for us when we explained that we would prefer to be in the main hotel as opposed to the annex. Nothing was too much trouble and we felt very looked after. Breakfast and dinner were both excellent! Room was very clean and comfortable.

Only a couple of little things - the hot sink tap didn't work properly. Also there was little issue with the TV - something kept flashing up on screen and we didn't know how to get rid of it but it worked fine.

The location of the hotel was on the main street but set back and there was good parking at the rear of the property. Although dated, the room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast and dinner were excellent as were the staff and service.

The hotel was dated and without a lift. For older guests the many stairs were a challenge. Guests would be advised to off-load their luggage at the front Reception before parking as the rear entrance is steep.

The staff throughout the hotel from reception thro' to those serving breakfast were, without exception, welcoming, friendly, helpful, and very professional - the establishment just seemed to operate so smoothly and efficiently without anyone appearing stressed or grumpy, which translates into a pleasant environment for guests. Breakfast was multiple choice and good value, although not included in the room rate on booking.com. The evening meal menu was varied, with some unusual and intriguing offerings, all well prepared and presented. The room was a good size with 2 large single beds, nice fresh linen and towels and all very clean. Parking arrangements offered for my motorcycle were excellent - out of sight, off the street and although not garaged there was a covered walkway to park under to provide shelter. Just a short walk out of the rear of the hotel and you're down by the river for an after dinner stroll or a pre-breakfast 'head clearer' If we were staying in Peebles again The Tontine would be a favoured choice.

The room was very hot with just a small and ineffectual fan for cooling and the view out of the window was just an adjacent wall - the former made for a slightly uncomfortable couple of nights, the latter only really significant if you spend a lot of time in your room. No denying that the price for a single occupancy room without breakfast included is eye watering but other establishment in the town are even more expensive and having stayed in several now The Tontine, while not the cheapest, has more going for it.

Breakfast was great, lots of options & everything of a great quality & cooked well. Had dinner also and it was most enjoyable, good menu with plenty of options. The room was spacious and the bed was exceptionally comfortable specially the pillows which were much better than many other hotels. Nice bathroom also.

Room a bit dark with no outlook but understand it is an old building. The bar and lounge areas could do with a bit of a makeover. Bar not very enticing and lounge although fairly comfortable is a bit too brightly lit specially later in the evening.

Staff were very welcoming. Food was good both the evening meal and breakfast. When the food arrived it was really hot, excellent!!! The first place I have stayed for some time where hot food means hot food!!!

Parking at the front, only one blue badge place!! Back entrance rather difficult. A slightly improved lift might be helpful. Everything else fine!!

The staff were very helpful and pleasant. Any minor issues were dealt with quickly and efficiently. The public areas are attractive and the rooms at the front of the building that have been renovated are very nice. The whole hotel is spotless.

Some of the rooms at the rear of the hotel need a little upgrading. The food is perfectly acceptable but not particularly exciting - I would prefer to dine elsewhere in Peebles

Breakfast was exceptional. Everything on our plates was beautifully served, tasted delicious, and the food was arranged on the plate in an attractive manner. My wife is a Cordon Bleu cook and she often comments on how few establishments serve food correctly and attractively. We had a small problem with the TV on arrival, but had prompt help from a delightful young barman called Calum.

Nothing really. Had we been less fit elderly people, the parking might have posed problems.
