Quaint and quirky

Whilst I understand the possible reasons behind a couple of things, they were for me, annoying. After draping my husband’s underwear over the standby light on the tv,which annoys me wherever we stay and piling cushions at the window to try and block the light which is going to stream in at 4am, lights out and ready for sleep. No, extractor in the shower room won’t turn off and there is a green fire exit light above the door which lights the whole room even though it is around the corner! The bed/mattress in Bantham room is very squeaky even when you are only turning over. Mentioned this to the owner at breakfast, no one has mentioned it before and she’s going to investigate and hopefully rectify it.

The staff were amazing - so friendly. Especially the lovely couple who own/run the pub. The food in the pub was very good and the service was quick. Breakfast was very good as well. There are lots of staff employed which you don’t always see these days and meant service was very attentive. The rooms were very comfortable and had everything you needed. Whilst we didn’t use it the property is on a bus route which could be handy.

You have to ask if you want fresh towels and I forgot to ask but that is my own fault.

The room was fabulous, more than we could have wished for and exceptionally clean. Bar staff were very friendly and chatty. Great location for Kingsbridge which we loved.

The pub being closed Monday and Tuesday, was not aware of this, maybe would have stayed elsewhere as nowhere else to get food or drinks in Churchstow. Breakfast great but not once asked if we wanted extra drinks or toast like all our other stop overs. No negatives as it really was a lovely place.

Very friendly and attentive staff who were very accommodating and couldn't have been more helpful!

We liked everything, it was faultless. Maybe now that covid has become less of a problem, it might be nice to offer a freshen-up of the room and coffee/tea tray, if requested. But really, it's just a thought as everything was provided for our stay and the staff were very keen to make our stay great which it was !

Lovely room with excellent facilities. Bathroom nice and clean, very spacious. Suzi & Glen were very friendly and accomodating. Great breakfasts. Would definitely recommend and stay here again if in the area.

If you need a cab, make sure you book well in advance! Not many cab services as it’s a rural area so limited availability.

The room was newly decorated with nice soft furnishings. The bed was comfortable. The food in the restaurant was very good although portions were massive. The owners and staff were all very friendly and went the extra mile to ensure our stay was enjoyable.

The room was far too hot at night even though we turned off the heating mainly because the duvet was winter weight. The en-suite was very small. Breakfast cereal choice was limited to granola. The reception on the TV was poor at times seemed to lose its signal. Non of the above spoiled our stay just mentioning them for future reference.

We had a great stay here. Communication by email was good beforehand as we had a few things we needed to check out. Parking was easy in the private car park and the hosts were very friendly and helpful throughout. The room was really lovely with a huge comfy bed and it all looked newly decorated and really clean. Everything we needed was in the room but you only had to ask if there was something you wanted. The food in the pub was very good and there was a great atmosphere in there with well spaced out tables but a busy buzz about the bar and restaurant area. , Service was very friendly and efficient and we would happily eat there again. Breakfast was made to order and kindly offered to us early as we needed to get on with our long coast walk early. Thanks to Suzi who also made us delicious rolls to take away for our picnic. We hope to be back one day.

Excellent location, spotlessly clean and well-furnished to a high standard. And a lovely comfy bed! The staff were so friendly and helpful too.

The room we stayed in was small, and the ensuite shower-room even more so! We do understand the restrictions on space due to the great history of the building, but it was a squeeze!

Located on main A road. However, only slight traffic noise with widows closed as efficient glazing installed. Room and bathroom, modern design and we had two good nights sleep in a comfy huge bed. Breakfast choice really good and flexible anyway. Great coffee and breakfasts themselves. Mine hosts friendly and run an efficient hostelry. Atmospheric Inn of centuries in being with many interesting features of days gone bye, well kept and presented. Fortunately, the food (and drink) is of the 22nd century and of good choice with added daily specials. Recommend the steak and ale pie if available. There are of course vegetarian choices. Everything was spotless and of course COVID safety measures applied.

The room (No 4) was rather dark at night and could do with an angle lamp to enable easier reading.

Large, tasteful modern room with very good en-suite with walk- in shower. Access is independent of the inn building with own key. The inn itself is full of character, breakfast had a good choice and the dinner menu was extensive with specials each day. Staff were helpful and pleasant.

Only minor thing that would have improved stay would be a more interesting ‘drinks’ tray in room., hot chocolate sachets perhaps.
