We chose this pub bed and breakfast in the countryside for an overnight stay as it was 20 minutes away from Brittany Ferry Terminal in Plymouth. The pub is unpretentious and in the centre of village of Ivybridge. However when you enter it is a real surprise as it has had a modern and subtle makeover with quirky finishing touches such as trompe l'oeil.Ben was kind enough to inform us the day before that there was works being carried out on drainage pipes in street outside hotel and relocated us to cabins at back of pub to ensure we had a water supply.Ben also cooked a wonderful cooked breakfast with vegetarian option the following morning proving his culinary skills as a former chef We paid £80 for bed and breakfast for all round quality

It was an old building ( certainly at least Georgian) with character, although our bedroom was in motel style bedrooms behind the pub. The bar and dining room were pleasant. The staff were friendly and helpful, although on Wednesdays the chef has a day off so no evening food is served. AS others have said the breakfasts were excellent. We had a very generous full English, cooked to order and served nicely. They coped with one gluten free guest well.. So the breakfast was the highlight

Our bedroom was a good quality motel style room. The fittings were newish but there was cracking of some walls etc but not enough to make you feel concerned. As it was ground floor overlooking where cars were parked you needed to close the curtains to maintain some privacy

Staff were very friendly and helpful. Room was nicely decorated and warm. Inn is full of character and friendly atmosphere. Small but very pleasant bar with good choice of drinks. Breakfast was fine, decent fry-up and nice porridge. Didn't have an evening meal but nice dining room. Set in a small but quaint village.

Set a little off the beaten path and as with much of Devon access roads are tight. Just needs a little caution and be prepared for reversing. However for our return journey north very convenient for A38. Bathroom is a wet room and water tended to flow quite broadly around the shower area. But may just be an issue in this room and not exactly major. Shower was good and plenty of room to manoeuvre in the bathroom.

The Anchor is a lovely country pub, and the staff are very friendly, welcoming, and helpful. The bar is small but comfortable. We ate dinner in the restaurant and everything was tasty and well presented. The cooked breakfasts were good, and the coffee plentiful!

Our room wasn't very warm, and the duvet was thin, and really not big enough for the bed. We mentioned to Tom that the radiator needed bleeding and that did improve things somewhat. We also felt the dining room could have been a bit warmer. The rather restricted opening hours took a bit of getting used to!

Absolutely loved staying here. Arrived last minute.com but was welcomed with our small dog. Room was cosy had what we needed. Breakfast was fantastic. Tom and the team could not be faulted they were very attentive went out of his way to accommodate my partners need for full milk on his cereal. Fantastic atmosphere food was good and did a nice rose 😊 Small parking area around back but we always got a space. We stayed an extra night which was lucky. Fresh towels cups etc for the room didn't even need to ask. Will be back 😊

The bathroom was starting to look a bit shabby as they do with use. Sealant etc. Bedding seemed thin. But the room was so warm it really didn't matter.

Rooms were excellent once booking error was resolved. Dinner and hospitality in the bar later were very good and very reasonably priced. Would certainly eat there again if more local.

Not the hotel's fault but there were multiple roadwork/closures locally in what is a very rural area that we weren't familiar with. Took several sat-nav attempts to find our way - some prior notice would have been helpful. On arrival, we were directed to 'outside' rooms having specifically asked (over the phone) for inside rooms. This was resolved quite quicky but not helpful after all the road works.

Went to a wedding nearby and so glad we picked The Anchor Inn to stay for the weekend. Received a very warm welcome on arrival. The room was delightful. We had a lovely dinner on Friday night and excellent cooked breakfast yesterday and this morning. It really felt like home from home. The only suggestion I would make is that if you need a taxi, you pre-book in plenty of time. This is not a criticism, it’s just that the local firms get booked up very quickly and because you’re in a village, the reception isn’t always good.

The Anchor Inn's interior is up-to-date. Our apartment gave you that seaside feeling. The host was nice.

we came from Cardiff caught a train to Ivy bridge. Then we had to phone a taxi which cost us £15 two minute drive to the Anchor Inn. It was too far out, as we both didn't drive. One bus the 91, which only came once a week . The shop was an hour walk away. We had to go down this dark country lane which took twenty four minutes to get to the nearest bus stop by the horse and Groom. We had an evening meal out but it was cut short as the last Gold bus was 10:30 pm at night. We just felt isolated.

I am reluctant to praise The Anchor Inn as much as I am about to, for the sole reason it means everyone will know how fantastic is it and then I won't be able to book a room! Before arriving I had emailed and asked if we could have a room with beams. The response was quick and we were indeed given the best room in the pub at no extra cost. On arrival the staff were friendly and welcoming, making us feel instantly relaxed and at home. I really enjoyed their good sense of humour. Food. Absolutely amazing from the generous breakfast to the delicious evening meal. As someone with a gluten intolerance I often fear eating out. The Anchor Inn were so accommodating and had a great selection that I could enjoy. Nothing was to much trouble. The local bar was cosy, with a a log burner and plenty of seating. The locals were friendly and welcoming. The main restaurant was comfortable and nicely laid out. Free car parking on site. Beautiful village with good local walks. Particular thanks to Tom, Matthew and Sarah for making our stay so welcoming and comfortable.

Pub looked to be recently decorated and had a very warm cosy feel when we arrived with a lovely log burner alight and cosy chairs. We were fairly late but was made to feel very welcome. The breakfast was very good and the manager was extremely polite and attentive. The village of Ugborough is very lovely and has a beautiful Church at the head of the village square.

The bathroom needed some attention namely the glass shelf was hanging rather precariously and the small shower head holder was broken and just hung down so couldn't really use. There was the alternative rain shower head also which was fine although I prefer the smaller shower. Other than that, it was extremely good value for money.
