The Borrowdale Hotel

The hotel was clean and spacious and the staff were welcoming and helpful. The location is great for walking and running straight from the door. Keswick is a 15 min drive away for a bit of shopping.

Our evening meal didnt match the rest of the experience we had at the Hotel. It lacked visual appeal and would have benefited from having either more vegatbles added or an additional side dish of vegetables that could be ordered and so it felt expensive 'for what it was'.

Lovely hotel. Not very big, but yet a pretty comfortable room. Well-fitted and clean bathroom. Pleasant and helpful staff. A tiny drawback was the breakfast. The food on my plate could be cooked better and served hotter. Chef certainly needs to take better care of his kitchen.

Great location, comfy room, super-accommodating for dogs

Service was a bit patchy, especially at breakfast. We felt like we were a bit of an inconvenience for one or two staff; that being in the conservatory with dogs was irritating. Evening menu was good, but seemed a bit pricey for the quality; especially the main menu. Wasn’t sure why we couldn’t choose food from each menu, but had to stick to one, especially for the whole table. For example, fish and chips from the bar menu, then a dessert from the main menu; especially when meals are individually priced. Appreciate the hotel has recently been renovated and only opened recently, so there will be teething issues.

We had a lovely time at the Borrowdale Hotel. The room was ready for us when we arrived at 3pm. It was a privilege room so was recently renovated. Beds very comfortable, room spotlessly clean, bathroom was bath with overhead shower and though slightly small was excellent for a building of this age and design. Evening meal had plenty of choice, excellent chef and lovely staff throughout hotel. Overall a lovely stay in a quiet and beautiful location. Would definitely recommend.

Everything else was brilliant and we left hotel on our last day and returned before going home to have a cream tea which was prob best cream tea I have had .So relaxing. Room great clean,comfy bed especially as I hsve a bad back .Feel very relaxed there .Garden beautiful.to relax in too and lively relaxing sitting rooms. Breakfast very good .Can't wait to return .Staff helpful snd friendly and very welcoming to our elderly dog 🐕

Just the set menu on offer wasn't very exciting. It was well cooked and tasted nice but not an interesting choice. Everything else was brilliant.

Breakfast and dinner were excellent, very good and british service, very good food quality. The sitting rooms are comfortable, the small garden very nice to sit.

Two things: 1. There is no mobile phone signal in the area, so you cannot phone. 2. They provide 3 levels of comfort: standard, classic and prestige. The first is the cheapest, the last the most expensive. We booked a Presitige room, we got room no. 4 with view to the air conditioning of the kitchen. The noise of it started at 5 am and lasts until 11 pm. It was so loud that it was umpossible to keep a window open. Will I stay there again? I'm sorry to say: no.

On departure day I had to leave before breakfast. The previous evening I asked whether I'd be able to have a bowl of cereal or something made available. Instead, The restaurant manager Kath said she'd be able to arrange for a bacon sandwich. On arriving to collect my sandwich in the morning I was delighted to find not just a sandwich (which was excellent)., but also toast, coffee and orange juice! Outstanding! And much appreciated. Thanks Kath! :-) All the staff were very pleasant and helpful, a great bar too. A lovely stay. Many thanks.

Staff where wonderful especial Cath in the dining room. The cooked breakfast on the first days was very poor value for money and the main meal on the second night which was delt with at the time and very professionally by Cath she also made up for the poor breakfast on the first day she made our holiday special thank you

Bar I ordered a Molito cocktail expecting it to be made at the bar but no it came out of a plastic bottle no mint and dried orange tasted foul must disappointing part of the stay would have sent more time in the bar

Beautiful, traditional hotel in the heart of the Borrowdale valley. Room was small but recently renovated and had a lovely view of Derwent water. Beautiful gardens. Within walking distance of the lake and multiple walks and hikes in the area.

Room overlooked a service yard and a number of vents from the kitchen, so it was quite noisy early in the morning with delivery trucks, and food odours reached the room. Dining room is dated.

The service from our waitress was excellent, she made us feel really welcome and helped suggesting wines for each course.

Wanted lunch or afternoon tea checking in Saturday, but was told by the barman only sandwiches are available, after previously been told by reception alright up to 2.30pm and advertised outside on A board - we asked the barman at 2.10pm and was told no sorry only sandwiches are available, we then sat down on a table with signs offering afternoon tea from 23rd May until 5pm - this was displayed on every table, which was disappointing felt like the bar man couldn't be bothered.
