I usually stay in the Gilson when i come to Hull on business as it's very good value for money and centrally located. Check in staff always very friendly and efficient

It's a bit old fashioned and shabby in places but at that price you absolutely cannot quibble

room was good for the money we paid, staff were okay pleasant enough

breakfast was awful i would not recomend adding this to your stay, everything was dry the cups were so dirty they stuck to the tray they were on and the staff were blunt and rude. there is a weatherspoons over the road about 2 mins walk away for a far better breakfast and coffee

Hotel is really close the the stationand convient for places to eat and drink. Room - it was more like a suite, with a lounge with TV and a bedroom and bathroom off - was specious, warm and had everything I needed. Bed was comfortable. Staff were helpful and quick with what I needed. Bathroom has a whirlpool bath! All round great value for money, and I'd definitely stay again.

Minor stuff: decor a bit faded; a couple of the windows didn't quite close, but I was there in February and it wasn't drafty; I couldn't get cold water in the bath, but that may have been me.

The staff were lovely, helpful and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. The room was clean, comfortable and spacious. The restaurant was undergoing refurbishment so we were able to order in food to our room. When we requested plates the young lady was more than happy to oblige. There was a huge television on the wall. The WiFi was free and there tea and coffee making facilities. Bathroom was clean and there were plenty of clean towels.

To get to reception there were some quite steep steps which, as a disabled person, were quite a challenge. The bed was like sleeping on a brick and the mattress was coated in plastic (obviously for hygiene reasons) but it meant the sheet slid about all night. The kettle seemed to have a fault as it didn't turn off when it had boiled.

This is a budget hotel and in need of a bit of TLC, but overall, it was good value for the money. The room was spacious for a single with a double bed, a chair and a desk. It is conveniently located near the train station and although it houses three bars, was quiet.

The tub sides were too high and the bottom of the tub was slippery. Not a good situation for an older traveller. A small breakfast offering would have improved my two-night stay.

I visited Hull for a course I had to attend at the Hull Royal Infirmary. The hotel was located less than 5 minutes walk from the train station and hardly 10 minutes walk from the town centre. Lots of restaurants near by. The room size exceeded my expectations, had all basic facilities, size was definitely bigger than the usual hotels. There was a study table as well which suited me a lot. Complementary tea coffee as well, free internet and the washroom was also quite spacious. The hotel also mentioned a 24 hour gym which I did not visit but would be a nice thing for those interested. Price was quite economical

To be honest I can not think of anything

+1. Location. A short, level walk from most of Hull's attractions. The second closest hotel to the Paragon bus / rail terminal (after the former BTH pile on top of the railway station). +2. Facilities. Hotel ticks every box the traveller needs. They are particularly accommodating about holding luggage in secure storage, even over nights when clients aren't staying there.

+1. Noise. As with all city centre hotels, there is inevitably a lot of ambient noise, mainly from road traffic. I stayed there on a hot night and, in the absence of air conditioning, needed to leave windows open. +2. Lift wasn't working when I stayed.

Unfortunately there were guests that spoilt our trip this time due to noise in the early hrs that went on for hrs.They were evicted but it was too late as they had already disturbed everybody's sleep in the hotel.Though the staff reacted to the disturbance and acted in the ours and other guests interest we hadn't slept well at all .We use the hotel regularly and still will it's just a shame people ruined it this time!

We were attending a gig at the Bonus Arena, so wanted somewhere close. Reading some of the reviews, we decided to take a punt and give it a try. Hugely pleased with the overall experience. Loads of communication leading up to our stay, filled in a check-in form online and so check in was swift. Collected a key card and found the room to be great. Really spacious, bathroom with bath and shower over it. Large, comfortable bed, good quality towels and even tea and coffee making facilities. It was really quiet all through the night, even though we fronted onto the busy main road. Great soundproofing. You can eat there too if you want. Amazing value for money. Would certainly use again for a similar trip.

The area isn't the best, but what does it matter? Not al all.
