The ensuite room was very clean on arrival with tea and coffee facilities. The friendliest member of staff was definitely Pete who greeted us cheerfully every morning as he monitored breakfast requests, he was also a mine of information on places to visit etc. The rest of the staff need more training in dealing with customers with a friendly greeting

The toilet seat was falling off and the safety handrail on the stairs was coming away from the wall. Handrail was speedily fixed by Pete the all rounder breakfast attendant

The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The private guest entry door was very useful. The shower was excellent and the fan in the room was brilliant as our 3rd night was really hot. We had room 15 and it was fine and would definitely stay with you again.

Breakfast service on the Saturday morning was a little slow, but Jacob was having to do everything from serving the breakfast to taking the orders, answering the phone and generally running the show! The breakfast itself was wonderful.

Great location for gigs at the Asylum at Hull University. Friendly staff greeting. Bed comfortable. Communication from staff was good - unfortunately their hot water boiler was condemned on the night I was staying. I was informed of this and that I could cancel with a refund or stay and have a breakfast and drink on them, which was good customer service. I stayed.

Just minor things, the room I stayed in, the plug in the sink just let water straight out. Although I received a complimentary breakfast I think the instant coffee offering is a little poor for a £7.95 price tag; a real brew would be better.

Close to town but far enough out so it’s quiet. Staff lovely and great value for money. Plenty parking and great bar downstairs with proper pub food.

Room needs more plugs (especially near the mirror as no good trying to dry hair with a hairdryer as can’t stretch a hairdryer to see in the mirror that’s there). More lamps required near the bedsides as only one at far end of the family room.

We have used this inn a few times and have no reason to look for another. Arrival, parking and checking in was all very straightforward with no fuss. The room was adequate, clean and comfortable. Although we had to pay extra for breakfast it was good value and pleasantly served. We ate there every night and enjoyed the food and drink in the company of my brother. At ALL times the staff were excellent with NO exceptions.

There were a couple of things not quite right in our room but attended to once pointed out.

Unfortunately the room I booked into had a broken bed and a missing toilet seat. They called me about 10mins after I had booked in and was sitting in my room, that the room would not be available. It was unfortunate but the room was fine for sleeping in and it was obvious they were fixing it and it had been damaged by the guest the night before.

very convenient for interview at university - food was well priced. good value for money -rooms comfortable if bathrooms a little dated.

the fan from the kitchen/cellar was quite noisy outside one room. the parking has to be logged and the guy on bar/reception did not tell us - but we did it in the morning so was OK.

Don't really know what to say as stay was cancelled & refunded as Boiler had broken down so hotel had no hot water and gave me the option to cancel for free., only writing on here as BOOKING.COM will not let me be and keep insisting I review even though I did not stay I believe that the Old Grey Mare would have been a perfect place to stay had I actually checked in

Nice clean hotel and pub good location to where we were going the room was a nice size and clean . The staff were very friendly and helpful . The pub served some good meal deals and big potion sizes cooked perfect at good prices . Also a good drinks selection . Nice big pub with entertainment and quiz on couple of nights we were there also free parking on nice big car park

Beds too small could do with bigger ones for big adults Long walk and a few stairs to room . Bathroom could have little bit of maintenance and bar could serve people stopping in hotel later can't get a drink after last orders . Nothing to do with hotel but they could advise people we had problems booking taxis to places we wanted to go with up to four hour wait which caused us lots of problems. There's bus stops outside which are not much better and don't run on time and very crowded .

Is very convenient for the university and gigs at Asylum, and the price is good value for money. Staff were all very friendly and helpful, too. It was what I expected and I would happily book again if I was visiting again.

Facilities are very basic and a little dated but this is what I expected for the price so I have no issue with this. Only issue was the the bed wasn’t especially comfortable.
