Hotel La Place

Running a small hotel isn't an easy task especially during low season and in nowadays reality. The hotel is not fancy but it shines when the stuff does its job in unition. I am not an easy guest as I know the profession of running reception (and reception is the command center of any hotel) first hand, thus sometimes I let immediate scrutiny get the best of me. As for La Place, all I know is that I slept well, laughed much and was aided by the stuff constantly and wholeheartedly. Many thanks to Eva and... Juliano!!! a master of the craft.

Breakfast.

A warm welcome by the receptionist, helpful in managing tourist issues. Great english breakfast. Nice and cosy Interieur. Old, but ok. It's a typical London house with steep and narrow staircases if you are into that. I love the authentic look and feel.

My room was probably the smallest they had. But to be honest it's exactly as you see it on their website. Even there is nearly no space they made best out of it. I never felt hemmed. The receptionist told me if I book earlier next time they give me better one, so they know it's not their best room. But you get what you see and pay for of course. It smelled musty the first day, but after I told that the receptionist, the next day it was better. But I think the room has some issues with humidity coming in. Nothing serious, but you have to know, if you dislike that. In general cleanliness could be better.

the room was beautiful, spacious and quite. The matress was good. The amenities provided there were nice. There was a boiler and extra tea bags, coffee, milk and biscuites every day.The staff was really nice and helpful. I was offered to have a quitter room which was really nice and I thank them.

Overall it was a comfortable, quite and nice room. The temperature was nice. The bathtub was a bit too high for an average person and it was somewhat difficult to climb into, but other than that, the room and the bathroom was spacious and comfortable.

excellent location in a silent street, very kind and helpful staff, the room (it was on the top floor) was comfortable. check-in is available also after 9 pm. they answer the questions sent them via booking.com app very quickly.

The breakfast offer could be wider. Occasionally, noises could be heard in the room late at night and in the morning (probably due to the lift and/or if someone used the hot water in the next room, because the hot water dispenser is noisy). One of the sockets did not work perfectly (but fortunately there is another one).

Very pleasant reception staff. My room was at the back and very quiet. Small, but with everything you need (other than, perhaps, a safe). Iron, ironing board, trouser press, hairdryer, toiletries all provided along with basic tea and coffee supplies. Very comfortable bed. The location is fabulous - near to Baker Street tube, lots of buses and surrounded by restaurants, pubs and eateries in Marylebone High Street. A short walk to Oxford Street too.

Breakfast was included and as I'm not a big breakfast eater I just requested poached eggs, toast and coffee. Had to do this the day before, which was pretty annoying. How do I know what I want to eat the next day? Coffee came quite quickly and was good. Toast a little after that. I then waited for nearly 15 minutes for the eggs to come, by which time the toast was dry and hard, like old cardboard. The eggs were hopelessly overcooked and obviously prepared by an amateur who had no idea of how to poach an egg. I didn't eat any of it and cancelled the next day's breakfast. Totally sub-standard in what was otherwise, a lovely place to stay.

The receptionist on duty Julian who was on duty when I arrived, was so very helpful and professional, which was the one big thing I really appreciated. So were the staff at the breakfast room. Hotel is very centrally located in a quiet street and close to the underground station of Baker street. The fridge was unfortunately not working, it was the one big negative, but I was lucky enough to get it changed on the day I arrived as the hotel had an extra one in store. Re value for money, I personally found it a little too pricy, bt this was to be expected as it was the Jubilee weekend. not to mention that accomodation is very expensive in London as in every other big city.

Taxi service -I would recommend people to rather book taxis on the internet if needed - (if there is some kind of metro strike which was the problem in my case) the Bolt and Uber apps seem to be more reliable than the black taxis on the roads of London which did not impress me at all. From my experience, they only seem to want to circulate in the centre of London. One or two taxi drivers I stopped on the road refused to drive me to the airport!

Stayed at a familly room with 2 double beds - Loved the room, very clean and tidy. Love the location, near an underground station and souraonded by lovely shops, resturanrts and cafes. Didn't try the breakfest because of all the amizng choises around. Bathroom was great! A little small but has everithing you need (hot water, shampoo+soap...) Had a kettel, tea bags and some cookies in the room.

Could hear our "neighbors" and the steps of the room above us.

Great location, lovely interior with a character, excellent breakfast, I was upgraded to a suite on the day without additional charge

It was a double bed but 2 single mattresses were joined together, one mattress wasn’t comfortable so woke up with pain in my back. I slept on the other mattress the next night and it was good. I’m glad I was alone otherwise either my partner or myself would have suffered.

The location, the Staff, the facilities. The location was max. 20 min - 25 min walk/ by public transport to every part we needed to go (Shard restaurants, Thames Cruises, Buckingham Palace, Oxford Street). Many pubs (Marylebone area) 2 min. walk from the hotel. When pubs close earlier (weekdays) you can have a drink af the hotel. Rooms are very clean, breakfast is very good.

Everything was perfect for what we needed.

Great location - just over 5 mins walk to Baker St. Tube, same to Regent's Park, slightly less to Madame Tussauds. Some nice places to eat nearby. Staff were great - pleasant, helpful and there's two lovely ladies that do a good full English breakfast. There's a lift, that takes one person in comfort (two if you know the other person well!), a lounge, a library with books to borrow, or you can leave your used books for other guests. Room was slightly smaller than we expected, (but not a problem, as we weren't in it for long - too much sightseeing to do). Bed was big and comfortable, flat screen tv was adequate and there was a kettle with sachets of tea/coffee and hot chocolate. Bathroom was nicely appointed.

We found the signage for the rooms confusing. There are signs on the stairs directing you, but the actual doors to the rooms, with the room numbers on, are behind unmarked doors and it's easy to go straight past them. It gets easier once you've found your room a few times!
